yea i thought that too but but everyone keeps telling me they are a diff form of aphid i have had regular root aphids before and killed them easily with brayer T+S

im not sure anyone knows exactly what this bug is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_ZxqcV3iCs all i know is that they have ruined me for the last year finally i have killed them but well see if they come back. wish me luck...

donothing.. those bugs look similar to mine.. at least the size and speed of movement.. it would be great to see a close up.. do you still have them? if so, please try to take a magnified picture through microscope or something similar.. if not then i am really happy for you.. how did you get rid of them?

Iv been dealing with these bastards for the last 6 months . I know that they are coming in the bags of soil and ewc We get from the grow shops. we got rid of them finally [ I hope] by using a Bayer soil drench . The damage these thing do is horrible Iv been at this for over 10 years and have never seen these things until recently .
MY sour d clone that I have had for 10 years has been infected with some type of sickness from the Root Aphids  It's going to be a nightmare trying to get another real sd cut and will most likely cost me big $$$$$.

just an Idea:
I recently converted to coco, and wheather you buy online, or at a hydro store, or even lowes.... you can buy the compressed bricks and there aint no-way your gona get bugs in that stuff....
and coco w/perlite is the shit :)

when I was in FF I too battled root aphids and feel they are worse then fungas gnats by far...
two things I know that worked' was to tape aound the pots so that there is sticky tape above the inside of the rim, root aphids walk before they can fly... so they stick on the tape< only used as a controll tho... the other was to change my medium.

BOTH aphid AND gnat eggs would EASILY survive being dried and compressed,...not that they are, but is is completely within the realm of possibility.

these things are like sea monkeys (brine shrimp), and being completely dessicated (dried) does not affect their hatch rate once they get re-moistened. (Life finds a way -- Jeff Goldblum-Jurassic Park)

now I am NOT saying that compressed coco bricks ARE infested, but depending on brand, and how the bricks are handled, you COULD have eggs that will hatch once re-hydrated.

The root aphids pass on various pathogens. I had this problem, and started giving my plants aspirin, and they turned completely around. One 325 milligram tablet of plain generic aspirin per gallon of water/nutrient solution. This stimulates the plants immune system to resist almost any disease. The aspirin has no negative effects.

Thanks Retrogrow , I'm going to give them some aspirin starting tonight . My sour d and tres got hit the worst they look droopy, stopped eating and keep showing deficiencies . Good news is I took some cuts and they finally rooted. WE had 50 sour d girls that were treated with bayer go into flowering and started to get weird deformed bud growth and the buds on about 40 big plants have totally died back, all the hairs have dried up and they have stopped growing and the plants look like they are having mag problems .
It looks like they will have to be trashed , they are one month into flower and would have put out 3 + ounces a piece .

Alright I am happy to say I am still root aphid free!!
2 weeks ago I had fliers and crawlers.. i hit them with bayers, 5 days apart.. 3 treatments.. not a bug in sight after the first treatment.

Gotta couple questions for people that have gotten rid of these damn things. I got about 3 weeks left on my infested grow, So after that I am going to clean every thing.

I have carpet in my room and dry wall walls covered in black and white polly. Im sure these things are all in my carpet. What would be the best way to clean the carpet? I was thinking soak it down good with Lysol? Or maybe a bleach water solution? Or should I just pull the carpet up and lay new? But for the walls and under the carpet will bleach & water
Kill these things? Or what would be the best solution to use to kill these things so I can get going again?

I can't seem to find the bayers products in canada. Anyone know where i could grab some? I think I have spotted a couple root aphids. I'm not 100% sure... but my last harvest was considerably lower in weight then previous grows. I also seem to have that waxy residue on a couple plants. I find it very difficult to spot them, I'll snap a pic of that residue just to make sure.

You need a loupe/magnifier to see them. Look at the roots with a loupe, and you will definitely see them if they are there.

I pulled a couple plants out of the pots, ones that were almost rootbound. So the roots were easily visible. Using a 4x magnifying glass I noticed about a dozen of what look very similar to the red assed variation. But they didnt' really have a visible red ass, more of a overall goldish color. Also there were ones smaller in size that were closer to white in color. The smaller ones seemed to mover faster then the gold ones.

Sigh, so it looks like i'm infested..... I just purchased a large number of clones a week ago that are now in starfoam cups in the same room.

I'm in canada... so this problem is popping up everywhere, I think it is coming from the soil...

I can't get bayer products locally, so i'm going to grab some off of ebay, I see a number of bayer products referenced, which is the best?

Bayer advanced tree & shrub? I also see bayer complete
