STOP USING JAMAICAN BAT GUANO

Wear those dust masks kids....mix your stuff outside if you can.

^^for sure..

I can't do mine outside, so I use a fairly aggressive mask.

I would recommend something rated N95, the level of the swine flu masks..Those cheap ones from the hardware stores offer protection against only large stuff, like sawdust..

I use the 3M Particulate Respirator 8210plus, N95

A little more expensive, but works very well. I have asthma, and have never had an issue using this mask. I don't use Guano's, but I use it
against all the dusts from perlite/minerals/etc..

I love my bud but not that much lol..

I love my bud but not that much lol..

Wow man I mixed a bunch of soil a few months ago then got what I thought was the "flu" right after. So did the person I mixed the soil with. I felt like crap with all the symptoms you described. It definitely wasn't flu season and I almost never get sick. We used every damn type of guano there is indo, peru, mexi, jamaican....Histoplasmosis could have been it.

:dunno:

You seriously want to take that risk??!!! Is it really worth it to you??!! Come on bro!! lol I'm mean I love my bud but not enough to get sick for or be stupid about.. NO do not use any type of animal shit for just these reasons .. The Universities came to us YEARS ago and told us NOT to use anything like this .. the fact that they have this SHIT on the market boggles the mind!!! but it really is up to you to know what you are doing in the end and know what is safe and what isn't. Do you really want to take the chance and put your hands in this shit after you have read this?? I for one ,would not and I would advise anyone else to please stop. Not to mention the enviormental inpact it is having. The ppl in Jamaica need help but not like this bro.. peace out Headband707

I was at a local event out in the middle of nowhere this weekend watching thousands (not an exaggeration)of bats pour out of a vent from a 150 year old grange hall. We were standing there discussing how much guano would possibly be up there after that long, and how much more the ceiling could take. As we were talking they were zooming in close and the chicks started freaking out. Well, they were coming in close for the skeeters which were eating everyone alive. Bad year people getting bit by skeeters, good year for the local bats.

The bats seem to be dying from a mold/fungus and the bees pesticide and other problems. This is why they are asking ppl to step up and do their own hives . In Paris the bees do better in the city where they have stopped using pestiside and there are more varities of flower then in the country where the farmer uses pesticides and few flowers or should I say types of flowers. There is a study that has been going on for years. They produce I think 40% more honey in the city and better honey aswell. I'm sure the only problem would be the pollution from the cars. HB707 thank you. bat guano is terrible for you. I been saying it for years but every organic hippy freak try's to argue. the facts are out there, yet no one cares to listen.

It's like telling smokers, that cigarettes are cancerous, and you get that "yeah yeah" with the eye roll..

Well, it's not the bat guano but rather the fungal spores that are contained in bat guano. That's hardly the same thing.

Inhaling oyster mushroom spores is bad for you, that hardly makes oyster mushrooms bad for you either. Quite the opposite.

In this case, the statement "bat guano is terrible for you" is very misleading, since we are not consuming the bat guano and with simple precautions can avoid unnecessary exposure to possible contaminants.

There is a condition called "Farmer's lung" which can be obtained without any bat guano.

A good rule of thumb though is to avoid inhaling particulate matter all together, no matter the source. None of it is good for us.

so... whats healthy about bat guano?

of course it's the particulates in the dust. inhaling any particulates is bad as a rule. it just happens to be in guano and that is what the discussion is about. it's not good for the environment. it's not good for you. it can be easily substituted by composting, not that I feel organics means anything special to me. I think newbs should learn that guano is putting them at health risk and to try other means. don't get me wrong, I was a budswell user for years, and while it serves a pourpose in cultivation, their are healthy substitutes.
