Water Cooled Growers Unite!

What did you find for your parameters with chiller res temp, and room RH?

sometimes balancing things out takes a little extra tweaking. If your RH is too high, I try to allow my rez water to run hotter, adding heat to the room which causes the AC to run more which dehumidifys rather than just turn on the dehumidifier.

right now, I'm running my water at 75, my AC on it's hottest setting and my temps are mid 70's with 60 rh.
I will be putting the AC on external control so I can get back into the 80's once my dehumidifiers installed. then I'll drop it down as low as I can w/o condensation forming.

this allows my lamps to be closer and the dehumidifier to take over.

It's just another variable that needs to be considered as it effects the rest of the environment..

Condensation from the heat exchangers.

You would need to make sure you collect the condensation from anything that has the cold water running through it. You may have it insulated which could potentially cause mold, so I would worry about that.

Best case scenario is to keep your dew point out of reach. Check this site to see when condensation occurs (dew point) the water temp vs. ambient temp.

cool little calc, bookmarked.

BTW Bogfan the worst case scenario is high RH and low water temp.
Set the temp you run at on the little calc linked, set your RH and see the minimum water temp you can run in your lines. Keep in mind there will be a temp fluctuation in your lines so you want to aim for a water temp at least a few degrees above the dew point.

This 1/2 hp killer chiller keeps my 140 gallon reservoirs at 20c/68f. It kicks ass for $400.

I had a problem also with my tanks and lines, condensating big time,,,I had to insululate my reservoirs and chambers, spray on foam insulation fixed it nicely.

For the Plumbing I used this stuff, worked great and was cheap.

That's what I'm talkin bout. Easy to make. easy to replace. It's like a bic lighter now!

I don't quite understand how your chilling, is there a coil in the tube? Is there something I missed?

I REALLY want to know more. This is exactly what I have been trying to figure out on mine.

he said 2 140 gallon res. that is exactly what I was hoping someone would share when I started this thread. the only thing I can't get over is if it croaks and you don't have a back up ready to install. it's why I never went the water cooled route. it seems even the best in chillers are crapping out pretty quick. the warranties are terrible, and I don't feel like paying the shipping to hear it was user error. sounds great on paper, and if I had premafrost, I'd run one of those 10+ HP chiller off 2 amps, but I don't.. I also don't really ever plan on staying in 1 spot very long, so the set up and take down would be a hassle. I'm not going geothermal. I'm not going to trench a hydronics setup and pour concrete... nah.. I got rooms to get up and run, quickly. time is money in this occupation. I don't have time to fuck around. I need to run power & timers, hang my lights, hang some fans, install my AC and/or run my duct to air cool, build my system, tweak everything to rock and grow some weed. sorry, just what I've been thinkin about these days after having a serious mom meltdown, and being down for the count on one for almost 2 months.. I'd be poppin next week, if I just bought some clones.. now I got a new batch of kids cut, and hopefully they root with this new micro mister fog cloner he's making. says it puts conventional rooting and ez-clones to shame. If I'm lucky I might have crop in october!

I would still like to hear more about that chiller and how it's made, BAZARACKA!!!

Damn its gonna put the ez to shame how fast are they gonna root? In sativa dominant strains I have had roots within 6 days, I couldn't believe it they always claim roots as fast as 5 days but never seen it until recently, my indica dominant strains take longer almost like 2 weeks.

Yea I hear you on time is money! Its so true!!

really? I had roots in an ez in 36 hours once (one cut) the rest started to kick in around day 4-5. the trick is to let them pyth up a bit from warm temps and putting the the water on a NFT timer. once the roots are emerging, I simply add lethal doses of h2o2 to the res and kill everything, bleach the fresh roots to a nice fuzzy white and viola! I pull roots on my most my gear in 5-10 days in starters, bubble cloners, aero, etc. might have something to do w the heavy amounts of NAA, and MKP I add to the media or res.

I blew a whole crop waiting for things to improve.. I feel like such a shmuck! I could really use $25k this week. its my birthday sunday!

alright
i stopped by the local hydro shop near my new/temp place of residence, and i saw a pretty cool demo set up... a 6" ice box >>> 600w hps >>> 6" fan... the chiller was 1/2hp & was cooling the 30g nute rez which was also cooling the ice box...
anyways the air coming out of the fan was chilly. and this was in a 4x8 tent - so i was stuck by the potential of using a tent as a pretty much sealed room with an rh vent (4" fan/filter exhaust via rh sensor) becasue the cool air at the end of the chain was pretty much cooling the inside of the tent akin to what an a/c would do for a room.
i come home read thru the thread here and im confused. wtf. i did smoke me some bho...
but the set up i saw looked pretty tempting...

I had too many problem's and breakdown's with their equipment. Plain and simple.

Poor customer service and support and lousy quality equipment is what I got. All I can say is buyer beware/caveat emptor when it comes to Hydro Innovation products.

my shop special ordered one from them, it showed up, the guy took it home and it doesnt run, So he called them up and they said it could have broke in shipping and ship it back, on his own dime, and they will fix it for a fee. Dude said he will never ever deal with hydroinnovations again and they have the worst customer service in the biz

I dont like saying "I told you so..", but I told you so......they are a bunch of crooks. They used the same worn out excuse with me. Your equipment must have been damaged during shipping huh....??.....Bullshit. None of the big hydro shops want anything to do with them and will not carry their product line.

Hydro Innovations product quality, reliability and customer service really sucks. Do yourself a big favor and stay away from those jerk offs......:cuss:

wow RMS, tell us how you really feel! I been looking into Frost box chillers. a new company. they don't make iceboxes, but i'm sure there will be 10 companies next year that will make a similar product. got all prepared to cool the snot out of my place and it never got over 85 this summer.

BAZARACKA,
Great looking setuo!
What all are you cooling with that DIY chiller system?

Actually it's two modified Aero 36s from GH, and it is 140 gallons total.
Reservoirs holds 40 gallons each and the chambers 30gallons X 2 when flooded.
UUmmmm let me find a pic.

11 DAYS LATER

Pic on Right I Relocated (Again) was in construction. I need to get some new pics up. Cuz those two sweet things are turning out some monsters as we speak. "I keep saying if Aero ever catches ON" Nobody will grow any other way.

Built to quickly and efficiently chill marine coral reef tanks. Originally built for aquaculture this chiller will bring down the temperature in any tank fast and maintain the temperature easier than any other chiller of its size.
The design is different from that of typical mass produced ½ HP chillers that use a minimal amount of coils that are just barely enough to operate properly. This chiller has more than enough coils to make the heat exchange fast and efficient.

This heavy duty unit will outlast your tank!
1/2 hp chiller
110v and only draws 4.8 amps at full load
Flow thru tube in shell heat exchanger
1'' water supply in/out
Oversized heat exchanger for maximum heat transfer
Protective epoxy black coat on housing
Size 17x12x11

It Does what It supposed to>...
