Sweet Evlme2, I didn't realize the instruction manuals would go into that kind of detail. Thanks.

I recently purchased a cheaper model called Celiera and am not happy about it.
I was assured that the lineset was precharged and it turns out that is bullshit.
The sales person told me to hook up the lineset and then open the high pressure valve and then to depress the schrader valve for 3 seconds to bleed out the air.
My hvac tech told me this is a bad practice.
The main concern is MOISTURE in the lines.
What he does is first hook it all up then pressurize with either freon or nitrogen to check for leaks.
Then vacuum out all the moisture.
Then fill with refrigerant.
It's not hard to do, you just need the proper equipment.
I plan to sell this piece of crap and buy a Grunaire.

Wow that's expensive considering you can get the same thing for much, much less right here

http://www.grunaire.com/24000CRB.html

And I read both the Grunaire and Excel site. Both come with precharged line sets and their own connections so every component is precharged, no vacuum required.
Interesting, never saw that before. Good idea. Way too expensive for some of them however.

Thanks a lot for the pricing if anyone knows the mini splits price from excel that would be helpful also. I think I will have 2 rooms a veg and flowering at a new place I will build so I think 2 mini splits like the grunaire below or the excel version will do the job? I need to do a lot of research about these I guess.

I think the price difference is the bigger units the one you posted is a smaller split not the big boys we were talking about. And for those asking this earlier this is from the manual of the EXCEL like What The said it is precharged:

Plug and Play
Plug and Play refrigeration fittings make air cooled units simple to install by yourself; without the need of a
costly certified installer. Each refrigeration line is pre-charged with the correct amount of refrigerant for
your system. Just thread the fittings together and startup your system! The fittings are re-sealable unlike
the generic units on the market, meaning, if you need to take your system out for servicing or relocating
your unit no refrigerant is lost and can be simply re-installed.

2 ton = $3K (US)
5 ton = $7K
i'm guessing the 2.5 ton would be ~$3.5-4K
i just called them a few days ago.

I believe these are the Excel prices. There are none listed on their site. If these are accurate I can see why they don't want to list them.
So
2 ton Grunaire = $1300
2 ton Excel = $3000

Big difference for what seems like the same thing. The couplers must be pretty awesome on the Excel for $1700!
In fairness I could not find out if the Gunaire model could be disassembled and reassembled like you can do with the Excel.

Wow, that disassemble tid-bit is something I never even thought of thanks a lot!

I just emailed Grunaire and asked why none of their distributors had any stock on mini split plug n play, they are not currently selling this unit. They do have a new model but the release date has not been set yet. It seems the only alternative to an Excel Aire plug n play is the Americaire unit, which is still cheaper than the Excel.

Please guys remember that you get what you pay for. Cheap units like Americaire and Grunaire and Shinco etc are exactly that, cheap. They may work fine for awhile but good luck finding parts when the inevitable happens. I know from experience, I have a cheap Amcoraire sitting on my garage floor collecting dust because the "mother board" burned out.
Mitsubishi makes all their own parts in house and have the biggest chain of distributors going.
Parts are readily available.
Those cheap units, they're all made by the same company in China, Chigo. The distributors just slap on a different name. Grunaire is made by Chigo, the same fuckers who make Amcoraire.
Just like icmag is for grower, their are boards for AC tech's. Lots of info on those boards.
I was warned about buying cheap units, was told to get a Mr.Slim, but chose to go the cheap route. Now I know better.
Just trying to save my fellow growers some grief:ying:

I have an LG LMU180HE 18000 BTU mini split has a heat pump so you can use it to warm your room in the winter. Unfortunately the line set I bought was bad (the Flared of one of my copper line ends pulled through the coupling) and once I hooked everything up the system worked great for a day until all my refrigerant leaked out. AC guys now want $1000 to recharge and vac my lines. So I gave up on it. Honestly I wish I had gone water cooled this one was nice but the R410 refrigerant is about $90 per lb my unit takes 3 lbs

Yeah bro, you're being taken for a ride. When I called a tech to vac my lines he was willing to throw in a pound of r410 (if needed) for free. Cost me a C note total.
Those LG units are nice, another reliable brand.

You guys that are running these split units. Are you all running both the home and split units compressor and fans outside? I know anything is possible but is anyone concealing the compressor and fan of the split unit?

I hid mine in my attic

only issue with this is I needed to make an intake and exhaust for the outdoor unit as the ambient temperature of my attic is rather warm. If the outdoor unit draws in warm air it wont work that efficiently and it probably wont work for very long either. I was planning on having some ducting made so that I could draw in fresh air through the roof and then exhaust out the face of my attic where an existing vent was located. Might be an option for you to explore if your trying to get real stealthy!

i have my compressor inside my room and it's stealth. no noise. my outdoor unit is outside for the summer, but i'll bring it inside to another room adjacent to the grow in the winter. excel makes a plenum for the top of the outside unit, you must hook up a fan to the plenum and exhaust the air out. 550 cfm for each ton.

check my journal out. i got a little info. on my a/c in the first couple pages.
