It could be a hoax or it could be not, that's why i posted also the link of the explanation. This was in the neighbourhood of New Orleans and since BP was using a lot of dispersant Corexit 9500, it may be allowing some degree of evaporation into the water cycle.

In 2010, Corexit EC9500A and Corexit EC9527A were used in unprecedentedly large quantities in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. On May 19, 2010 the Environmental Protection Agency gave BP 24 hours to choose less toxic alternatives to Corexit, selected from the list of EPA-approved dispersants on the National Contingency Plan Product Schedule, and begin applying them within 72 hours of EPA approval of their choices but BP refused to change from Corexit, citing safety and availability concerns with alternatives. BP has used Corexit EC9500A and Corexit EC9527A thus far, applying 800,000 US gallons (3,000,000 l) total, but more accurate estimates run as high as 1,000,000 US gallons (3,800,000 l) underwater.

Didn't go back and look, but just wandering if you fluid dynamic engineers were figuring for the 1 mile water column when estimating PSI from the pipe? The head of that must be used in the calculation to have a proper estimation of force at exit.
Calculating for a flow rate of 17,000 barrels per day out of a 21" diameter pipe the force of the oil exiting the pipe has to be at least 2,250psi. I rounded down to 2,000psi. the pressure of the oil and gas itself is like 9,000psi without any head.

Edit: It was a real low estimate of the pressure just to give an idea of the force of oil coming out of that pipe. http://www.bdnews24.com/details.php?id=164799&cid=4

Interview with Dr. Paul Craig Roberts, former Assistant Secretary U.S. Treasury, Associate Editor Wall Street Journal, Professor of Political Economy Center for Strategic and International Studies Georgetown University Washington DC.

Roberts - "The U.S. is a failed state also because there is no accountability to the people by corporations or by government at any level, whether state, local, or federal. British Petroleum is destroying the Gulf of Mexico. The U.S. government has done nothing. The Obama regime's response to the crisis is more irresponsible than the Bush regime's response to Hurricane Katrina. Wetlands and fisheries are being destroyed by unregulated capitalist greed and by a government that treats the environment with contempt. The tourist economy of Florida is being destroyed. The external costs of drilling in deep waters exceeds the net worth of the oil industry. As a result of the failure of the American state, the oil industry is destroying one of the world's most valuable ecological systems."
Here's the article but it's even more depressing.

Two of the four stations near my house are BP. They have to do business to pay for the cleanup and rehab. Plus, the two owners are independent. One of em told me they buy gas from anybody, BP gets paid if BP delivers.

Should we follow the Presidents lead and try to shut it all down for this one accident?
Perhaps we just boycott anyone and everyone we feel is involved, that will teach them a thing or two. Who cares if it is people who are only working to make a living and feed their kids. Fuck them, they should know better than to work for a company like that, right?

IMO, if I had a stupid stick, I would crown every one of you boycotters as the dukes of dumbass. Your minds are all fucked up, and you need to figure out just what planet you live on and with whom.
ANd take stock of your own miserable fucking lives, before you start on some campaign against others...especially when you don't really know much about anything at all considering this issue. And it is a fact that anyone even considering a boycott of BP gas stations, has no fucking idea of what this thing is all about. But I am sure it makes the dukes and dutchess' of dumbass feel real good to boycott something....you know, to make a stand and all.

Some of you sicken me.
I hope none of your relatives go hungry or loose their house because of people like you.
But...like I stated, you have good company, because the President thinks its a good idea to put lots of folks who had nothing to do with this leak, out of work. Without even second thought...and when the courts tell then it was not a just move, they say fuck that, we will try another court to push out stupid shit.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Do you folks like being on the stupid train with that idiot?
Oh yeah, wait...you voted for it didn't you? Ahhhh.....

If you call this a little accident, well tell the people who lives along the Gulf coast.

Your minds are all fucked up, and you need to figure out just what planet you live on and with whom.

I can better ask you.The earth should actually be a place where you can swim in the summer in clean seawater, eat in the evening at nice terrace a nice piece of fish caught in the morning and sniff the nice breeze of sea air, but for the people at the Gulf coast that is over thanks to this 'little' accident.

I hope none of your relatives go hungry or loose their house because of people like you.

You're loosing your house anyway since 46 States has financial problems, so the taxes will go up.The clock of the debt is still ticking.
Like what Jim Morrisson sang Its the end of the oil business. It's about time we're gonna use zeropoint energy again free and clean.

I've been thinking about the boycott, and on top of hoosier's opinions. If we run BP out of business, who do you think will pay for cleanup. Yup, us taxpayers. I also agree with lifting the moritorium, why punish company's with immpecable safety records. Whereas BP was worst in the industry.

I just can't bring myself to buy BP gas. I will continue to buy my cigs, candy bars, and soda, but not gas, I just can't.

Were are you going to get gas CITGO, I'm sure Hugo Chavez would thank you.

Exxon: have you seen Valdez and Prince William Sound recently?

Chevron: they don't pay there taxes

Shell: Shell was responsible for the largest oil spill that has ever occurred in freshwater.

ALL of these guys are criminals in one way or another. This disaster could have happened to any of them.

Hmm.... who to blame? How about, you and me! It's we the people that continually let crooked politicians off the hook while they sell of our most precious ( and irreplaceable) resources to line there pockets. Not much unlike the CEO's of said companies and the hydraulic miners of old...got what we want, fuck the rest of you we are moving on....

So which one of these companies is the worse one? Hell our former Vice-President's former company is deeply involved in this. The rabbit hole is very deep and twisted.

I say buy BP gas, give them a reason and resources to stay and make this as right as possible. The US market is the carrot, it what keeps them around, instead of packing it in and saying sue us! Don't forget that your ( and mine) politicians aloud a cap to be place on these companies liability in these kind of matters.

It's in Washington that the protest need to happen, in November when you vote and in no longer being complaisant with our politicians.
If you ask me, I think that the politicians that allowed these companies to get away with things not acceptable in the rest of the world, that should be held accountable. They proffited from there oversight and looking the other way, it's time we all held them accountable,.. in office or not.

It's sad indeed bro. That's pretty much what I've been screaming since I've been on here. We are a failed state. There was a military and banking coups d'état quite a while ago. There are a lot of nasty implications and paradigm shifts that go along with it. Today's fucked up world including this oil spill is all part of it.

I reckon this spill will be further used to consolidate power within the hands of the few at the expense of we the people. Unfortunately, they don't care about their slaves.

I would argue they care very much for their slaves... the loyal workers who continue to give back their hard earned incomes to their petroleum products, cigs, candy, alcohol, ice cream, interest, credit card debt, entertainment.

its us who actually give a shit about what is happening and can see the truth beyond the lies that they don't give a shit about. the louder we bark, the better they advertise... so that future non believers will already be sold into the system

I do not know why, but this made me laugh my ass off, sad; but true...don't normally find something in this thread that makes me laugh. Maybe the twisted side of me did it, but still .
Slaves is a wee bit harsh I think, we are not in b.c., Egyptian pharaoh times here, blue collar is a bit more P.C. I think. :chin:

BTW, this thread was started with a title of 5,000 barrels a day, what's the latest Bull $hit # now? Anyone know?

33 wells out of over 3600? I'd say 6 months to make sure this doesn't happen again is wise. Florida stands to lose 10 billion a year in fishing and tourism. Should Floridians have to risk their economy for the sake of corporate greed? Over 3600 wells are operating right now. Only 33 permits have been temporarily sidelined.

Perhaps we just boycott anyone and everyone we feel is involved, that will teach them a thing or two. Who cares if it is people who are only working to make a living and feed their kids. Fuck them, they should know better than to work for a company like that, right?
It's peeps like you that demand everything and compromise nothing. That makes you a wing nut.

IMO, if I had a stupid stick, I would crown every one of you boycotters as the dukes of dumbass. Your minds are all fucked up, and you need to figure out just what planet you live on and with whom.

 Why are you against non-energy Gulf workers? They didn't do anything wrong and many of their lives are shattered. No 6 month moratorium, their fate is yet to be determined.

I know you're not against the folks that are no different than the ones you defend. So get off your soapbox with all the crap. Folks will boycott whoever they choose, free and clear of your wing nut judgment.

Some of you sicken me.
I hope none of your relatives go hungry or loose their house because of people like you.
But...like I stated, you have good company, because the President thinks its a good idea to put lots of folks who had nothing to do with this leak, out of work.
Uh, what caused the leak? Drilling. What has temporarily stopped? The drilling of 33 new wells, (33 of which you have no idea when they would commence.) IMO, 6 months is a short opportunity to fix what's broke so disasters like this don't happen again. How many deep water wells would you allow to blow before you realized it was time to back up and regroup?

Without even second thought...and when the courts tell then it was not a just move, they say fuck that, we will try another court to push out stupid shit.
Yeah, it's nice to have somebody looking out for the non-energy economy, especially when big oil may have already ruined everybody's Gulf lifestyle.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Do you folks like being on the stupid train with that idiot?
Oh yeah, wait...you voted for it didn't you? Ahhhh.....
Wing nut alert.
