This is not a black and white arugement. To say there is no system of control is just silly to me. And I'm speaking in general human terms, not so much to every individual. For instance, product marketing is a form of control and very sophisticated at that.

Government propganda is a form of control. I don't think anyone here could argue that the government doesn't constantly puts out propaganda. We only need to look at Reefer Madness to see one example. War time fear politics is a form of propaganda and control. There are countless, countless, countless examples in history of that.

The very essence of the social contract between governments and individuals is control. How much control is the never ending debate.

Interesting brain tweaking thread. It's always good to question what is going on in the world around you. And if something like this existed it doesn't mean we should all be hopeless. In the end I'm always an optimist.

Not sure I've resorted to name calling but if you are going to propose a theory like this then be prepared that not everyone is just going to swallow what you say. I haven't seen any real evidence. There are a lot of youtube clips. Maybe it would help if there was one theory but many of you seem to contradict each other.

Are you sure about your statement that I just bolded? You are making a blanket statement that covers almost 7 billion people on this planet. If it is a matter of fear, for which I do not agree with you that it is, then a person just makes two simple choices, fight or flee, and in once in a person's life, from birth to death, most people have done both. Maybe you will want to explain your "evocation of fear" phrase a little better.

As I did state in my previous post that, "A person can choose to allow themselves to be manipulated/fooled/controlled/swayed/etc.", it is still their personal choice. Investigating, for some people, is sometimes just asking the opinion of trusted family member, loved one, friends or peers about a good or service. Especially in this day and age when people just to pass off their personal opinions on a blog.

Social norms is a fickle term and varies greatly. Just because you observe an individual's behavior in an general setting, it does not tell the whole story.

Take for example, this forum. Some, if not most, people here could look like those people that you described in your post Traveller01, but you would never know that the person you could be looking at is a person that is a member of a forum dedicated to the subject of cannabis.

Again, for each person, it is their responsibility to decide how much they want to be controlled by the material goods and services that society offers. It is up to each individual on how much they themselves want to be influenced by external forces.
