Clones won,t root.....

Gonna cut some clones tonite with different rock wool cubes. The previous stuff was Grodan ,but I found Grodan to be a bit harder compared to cheaper rock wool.....
I,m also not going to use 1.5ml./gallon of GH MGB to soak the cubes...I guess it,s worth a try.
Also gonna cut back on the light as I built a cabinet to put the trays in......If I can get roots in two weeks Ill be a happy camper.
Like I said previously my AK 48 cuts have popped roots after 4 weeks.I put them in soil/beer cups last nite...They look very healthy considering their long stay in the trays...
My crit mass, and bog cuts are two weeks in and many are starting to rot/mushy so I think they are a lost cause.
The AK 48 is good but I am trying to perfect the Bog and Mr.Nice mothers.
Thanx for all the feedback...every bit of advice is helpful...Hopefully I can get back to good clones in 10/12 days......It takes time and practice.

If I went from complete success to total failure, my first move would be to trash everything porous and sterilize everything else. Lacking obvious visual problems, I'd go after the invisible: germs, disease etc.

I've been using the same bottles of Olivia's and Hormex for 9 years so I doubt the gel has expired. Try soaking stems in full strength cloning solution for 1 minute prior to gel and cube (any IBA, NAA solution will do)

funny how things stop working like that. Not knockin your veteran skills. I use grodan rockwool too, and I've found that as well, some of the pieces are pretty firm so I wonder how the roots can bust through. One other thing I thought of is whether you're feeding your moms right before taking clones? Someone told me when I was learning that nitrogen in the food can inhibit root growth so moms shouldn't be fed in the week prior to cloning. Doubt that has anything to do with it, but hey shot in the dark. Good luck )

I do keep everything sterile/clean...always use new trays,new rockwool,etc.
I have never dipped the cuttings in anything as I never had serious problems before.Anything i,ve read lately says that the cutting should be put in water prior to putting in gel/rockwool...
As for a sterile environment I guess things can look clean but germs can exist in clean looking area...my plants always do good which are flowered in another area of my space.

I usually feed the mothers several days prior to taking cuts,as that was always my method.I,m wondering about the fact that most of my clones are taken from new mothers which were grown from seed several months previous. The mothers are well developed with nice cuts, and they are about three feet tall and very healthy.
I will take your advice Freezerboy on the dipping of cuts in cloning solution for a minute.I have Dyna Gro product as I can,t get any Hormex in my area.
just wondering what ppl. feel about Dyna Gro Gel and cloning solution etc.as it is readily available to me.I normally used Roots gel or Olivia,s.
Thanx for all the advice. It makes for a lot experimenting at different stages.

I made a cloner for 45 bucks and it's worked very well for me for several runs now. I had previously tried the rockwool method, with no success. It just seemed to take way too long to get roots. I did everything by the book, and it just wasn't meant to be I suppose. Very similar to the OP's story. Anyhow, Cloner FTW.

Used rootech and roots. Far better success with the roots gel, and I like that its got an antifungal in it- prevents humidity from being a real problem when it should be helping. Roots is canadian too ) a lot of autoflower/early strains are notorious for being hard to clone - heard lowryder is awful. I have one pheno of mental floss that takes a ridiculous long time to root, while I am on 100% success with paradise white berry and it consistently roots in 5 days. I find if you talk to them nicely they sometimes try a little harder at it...)

I,m cutting new clones this week end using Rootmax and or Wilson,s gel.
I also ordered a 49 site cloner off Ebay...I,ll get roots one way or another...I hope!!!
I did get some clones/roots from AK48 and planted them in beer cups and they are doing well.....outta 56 I lost 2 so far.....May be a waste of time but if they don,t grow well then they hit the garbage.........Funny how things that were simple in past times all of a sudden become very difficult....I blame it on older age and depletion of brain cells!!!

i'de get an ez cloner, like stated they work freekin awesome. i just did a test to see if a broken branch would root, ie see how important cutting under water and putting in rooting hormone was. 4 days later and i have roots, 3 more and i should be able to plant. i don't have a light over the cloner either, its just sitting in the corner of one my veg chambers with a 400w hps hanging vertically.

for under $10.00?

when you're taking 30+ cuttings its worth spending more than $10 on a cloner that works like the showtime rotisserie, set it and forget it. i paid 250 or so for my 60 site ez cloner worth every penny.

thats after 2 1/2 weeks or so i let her stay in for a bit too long

2 cloners in a bin about the same size as your e-z cloner, holds 54 cuts, 27 per cloner.

a view of the roots after 20 days.

and a couple shots after only 17 days (i leave them in there that long to allow for a more fully developed root system)

not everyone can afford an e-z cloner, even a smaller one and the smaller ones have heat issues with the pumps.

this is the absolute easiest, most sure way for a noob to root cuts, bar none!

and all for under $10.00, lol.

btw, notice how white and clean my roots look?

bit of advice with cloning

some strains have hardier stems which take longer to root. other soft stem plants might take longer

semi-hard is where you want to be.

try and cut the clone from under the node. if the stems hard then score it a little. or scrape it.

also, some strains like a more humid environment. so maybe your humidity is a little on the low side. this would take them longer to root.

i have some super lemon haze here, and if there not humid as hell in the prop then they take a month to root, with no great explosion of roots. get the humidty up and they root in 8 days.

temp also plays a big part.

hope this helps

Sometimes shit happens I suppose but if you have done it in the past without a problem it will work again. I've tried bubble cloning but it was not reliable enough for high numbers of clones in SOG's.

So now I just stick with the basic principles and remain eternally patient.
