52W w/out ventilation: laundry-hamper grow (Shiskeberry,EarlyWonderSkunk, Mandala#1F2)

oops, in a sober picture-taking daze, i just accidentally destroyed the PC fan i was using for ventilation by dropping a light fixture (with a heavy metal lamp shade, which you can see in the first picture) onto the fan while it was spinning. i really liked that fan, luckilly it only cost $4. i think i`ll have to get another one. Arctic Cooling 3 TC was the model name. SG, if you`re reading this, this was the fan that i was showing you
the fan is visible in the first pic taken 5/21/2010, but not in the second pic taken 5/25/2010

So, PICTURE UPDATE

comparing the 1st and 2nd pics, you can kind of see what 4 days of growth looks like at this stage of this grow operation with 13 + 23 + 23 + 26 W of CFL lights. especially with the seedlings on the bottom of the pictures

the sad-looking plant in the bottom right was the 8 mile high. it was actually a female. i`d seriously damaged its roots during the hasty(and probably unecessary) transplant from the juice carton to the glass container. i thought it looked like it was about to die on me (first pic). but apparently its starting to make a recovery:)

i`ve started experimenting with topping the catnip (partly to keep the cat supplied, and partly as a means for my own experimentation). the catnip plant responds very well with growth of new leaf-bud sites

and a few minutes after making this post, i took it to the next level and just took a cutting from the catnip as practicing for cloning

again, 1st pic taken 5/21/2010,

the second pic taken 5/25/2010

105 + 26 +26 W with ventilation: laundry hamper grow. (SSH, EWS, M#1f2, "Lillooet"..

huge developments:
bought a bunch of new growlights.

one 6400K 105W `rosebud-shaped` (more american football-shaped looking to me) CFL that is supposedly equivalent to a comparable 125W standard coil-shaped CFL, due to less light being trapped within a central core of the rosebud arrangement of flouros. brand new & made in taiwan. really neat, and cool running, touchable even at top running temperature. check out the pictures.

then i went and got two 26W 6500K daylight CFLs by GE

new seedlings to be sprouting:
SSH by GHS (fem) (x1)
durban pinewarp by Reeferman (x4)
VSB outdoor mix (x6)
mystery peruvian (x2)
white satin (x2)
shaman by Dutch Passion(x2)
satori (x1, with chance of male)
lots of cold-selected lillooet seeds (countless)

visited the dollar store and on impulse purchased another laundry hamper. starting from scratch with this new hamper, i lined the walls with tin foil for light-proofing. the scrubbing exhaust was then transplanted from the old grow-hamper and installed near the top of this one. passive intake holes were cut near the bottom, consistent with the heat and airflow efficiency considerations recommended by scrubninja.

moved all of the biggest plants from the old hamper and all the biggest lights into this new tin-foil-walled and improved vent-designed hamper.
i then had an extra laundry hamper from the old one left over for seedlings and cuttings.

passive intakes with panty hose dust filters

some more shots of the inside of the tin foiled hamper

in the 3rd pic you can see the temperature of the cab with the lid-on and all lights on. need to do some work on that.

half of the lights have been turned off to reduce glare in some of these pics.

wow!
everything looks amazing Lamp-hill. Hey just a question how many of your reeferman durban pinewarp have popped I only got two thus far... but thats not bad I guess.
how do you spell liloette? haha, but realy, I'm soo excited to see those peruvian seeds growing, the bud was sooo amazing I only wish there was a way to go get some more of that peruvian minty bud! what an original taste. but the high from the peruvian is what I'm interested in...
the anticipation is great, I cant wait to see what's growing next.

the anticipation is great, I cant wait to see what's growing next.

that night i got home with the socks, still blasted from the session, i was grading/sorting the butane-treated liloette seeds on my desk, along side some durban pinewarp (DP) and accidentally mixed 2 of the 6 DP seeds in with a seed pile of liloette "white runties" that i was segregating from the liloette "dark fatties"

i've plugged all the DP and VSB outdoor mix seeds into rooting plugs. so far one DP has germinated and greened up nicely today out of the 4 for certain that i knew i planted. the 2 that i misplaced were likely mixed into the "white runty" lilooet pile, because i remeber the DP seeds were runty and probably wouldn't have blended in with the dark fatty seeds.

around 3 days ago i also threw all of the gathered liloette "white runty" seeds (the runts of the butane treated) into this one green container (check picture), in which i used some recently hydrated "soil block" coco coir as an experimental seed starting medium, and lots of the seeds have already started popping. i think the coco is good for wicking moisure to the seeds,. either that, or those butane treated seeds were really ready to go.

the second pic was taken with my cell phone just now, showing the germination so far

has anyone ever seen an "absorption spectrum of warm white flourescent bulb" chart?
the equivalent or similarities of which i'm about to post below:

i found some charts that made me curious.

snapped these with a cell phone just now

1st pic clockwise starting from top left: prickly pears still going strong, SSH (GHS) fem, lillooets from the recent white runty seeded green container planted seedlings (recently transplanted into this freshly re-recycled drink carton), and lastly an EWS that was looking so good until i stabbed it a bunch of times accidentaly.

2nd pic clockwise starting from top left [by container]: [inside big square glass container: M1F2Lil (biggest), satori (seedling), 8MH female from which i took two cuttings recently(scraggliest looking intermediate sized)] , [in container with inverted beerbottle: M1F2lil female], [out-of-view-container but visable plant on top right: M1F2 lil female] , [mandala #1 seedling in bottom right] , then the sequence continuing clockwise gets tricky because theres 4 lined up not in single file for counting clockwise, so basically right to left from top to bottom: [biggest seedling: EWS] [below that, with copper ring: durban pineberry], [4 in one: all butaned lilooetes] [below the previous: butaned lillooete] [bigger rectangular carton: two VSB ODMs]

i've previously labelled pics using MSpaint. thought i'd try out describing-as-labelling. tedious, but i woulnd't mind being paid to do it, if there were such work available.

i've concluded that labeling with MSpaint is more time saving. and that i'll never label by describing again, unless paid to do so. because i don't really enjoy reading and then looking back and forth so much myself.

in the last pic, the labels with the green underline are of seedlings that have outdoor transplanting in their destinies. for a week's growth's visual that pic should be compared with the 2nd pic of the previous post. except i shuffled the arrangement of the smallest containered seedlings (densly packed) around.

the SSH seedling has started its explosive growth. compare first pic of this post and the biggest seedling in the 1st pic of the previous post for a visual of what 1 week of GHS's SSH seedling growth looks like under the "parmax" rosebud-shaped 105W CFL.

seed shopping

seed shopping

Glad you're all enjoying the pics! i've been enjoying documenting my grow progress with this blog journal thing and comparing dates with pics.
i wonder whether that skateboard kid with the cripple sticks actually needed them or not. what are those cane-crutch-sticks called anyways? i shouldn't be calling them cripple sticks...

anyways, i'm currently seed shopping as a distraction, help me out here:, here's my list:

Beyond the Brain (10 seeds) (Mandala Seeds)
25.00 EUR

Speed Queen (10 seeds) (Mandala Seeds)
20.00 EUR

Blaze(blueberry x haze) (10 seeds) (The BC Seed Co.)
20.00 EUR

High Level (3 feminized) (Eva Seeds)
18.50 EUR

Purple Widow (purple power x white widow) (12 seeds) (De Sjamaan)
15.00 EUR

Haze Special (10 seeds) (K.C. Brains)
12.50 EUR

Leda Uno (10 seeds) (K.C. Brains)
12.50 EUR

Psicodelicia 100% (3 feminized seeds) (Sweet Seeds)
19.50 EUR

Haze Mix (10 seeds, mix of Orig.Haze, Indian Haze, and Skunk haze) (Seedsman)
15.00 EUR

Subtotal: 158.65 EUR[/COLOR]

i'm trying to reduce my total order cost to somewhere just slightly > 100 EUR.

any of you reading this here with smoking/growing/breeding-experience to either highly recommend or recommend against purchasing any of the above listed strains?

which ones should make the cut?

i'm interested in possibly adding more K.C. Brains strains just because the consistent 12.50 EUR prices for 10 seeds are so good. though i have a mild distrust of dutch seed companies/breeders just from frequent expereinces i've had with poor quality of seeds and germination of dutch origin. is K.C. Brains legitimate?

i'm quite interested in possibly switching out the mandala's "Beyond the Brain" for Mandala's "kalichakra", or "Sadhu" which are 20 EUR for 10 seeds.

i couldn't sleep so i researched the strains i listed in the previous post, and narrowed the list down to the following:

Beyond the Brain (Columbian Sativa/Haze x Satori P1) (10 seeds) (Mandala Seeds)
25.00 EUR

High Level (Lesotho x Skunk/Haze) (3 feminized) (Eva Seeds) (supposedly a feminized rip-off (clone, not bred) of "Leshaze")
18.50 EUR

Purple Widow (purple power x white widow) (12 seeds) (De Sjamaan)
15.00 EUR

Leda Uno (10 seeds) (K.C. Brains)
12.50 EUR

Psicodelicia (?cutting x Nepali) (3 feminized seeds) (Sweet Seeds)
19.50 EUR

Haze Mix (10 seeds, mix of: Orig.Haze, Indian Haze[South Indian Kerala x Orig. Haze], and Skunk haze[Skunk#1 x Haze]) (Seedsman)
15.00 EUR

Subtotal: 105.50 EUR

i'm counting on Beyond the Brain (BTB), High level, Leda Uno, and Psicodelicia being highly potent sativa-oriented strains.

the haze mix and purple widow i'm interested in as examples of highly-regarded "commercial" dutch-bred strains, to judge first hand.

of these 6 strains, 3 of them have Haze in their genetic mix (BTB, High Level, and Haze Mix [which is actually a mix of 2 haze hybrids + original haze] ).

i'm not sure what difference it'll make, but for growing outdoors it might make a difference: Mandala, Sweet Seeds, and Eva are based in Spain; while De Sjamaan, K.C. Brains, and Seedsman (Nirvana) are dutch.

some doubts:
-i suspect i'd be rolling dice with the Seedsman Haze Mix , after i discovered through research that Seedsman is just Nirvana Seeds' (no association with Gypsy Nirvana, just Nirvana Seeds) old stock with poorer germ rates.
-i also read some negative reports about hermis with De Sjamaan, which i've decided to ignore due to the many positive reiveiws of the purple widow being very vigorus and easy to grow. (and i love purple plants)
-K.C. Brains also has a bad germination rate reputation, and their haze special i was considering seemed like a "settling for a lesser haze" sort of haze choice to me, so it got cut from the list. but the Leda Uno remained because i found it had only rave reviews of its superb sativa high and potency.
-i read somewhere about Eva Seeds being a rip-off spanish seed company, specializing in making feminized seeds from clones of strains bred by others. So i kind of feel like i'd be supporting "cheaters" of the canna-business. profiteering seed dealers, who aren`t breeders. but at the same time, i am interested in feminized seeds of potent strains, and if they come in low-priced packages, it's too appealing. the "high level" (supposed Leshaze rip off) also has good mold resistance in its strain description which i'm interested in.....

damn i'm starting to doubt this high level strain. makes me want to switch it out for a more reputable strain, maybe even a mandala strain like kalichakra instead.

with that all said, it sounds like i`m really gambling on all but the Mandala strain,, hoping on scoring some quality genetics at low prices from seed companies with dodgy reputations.... hmm.

i guess that`s why i`m looking for advice. is this worthy of posting as a newb thread to plea for recommendations? i'm on a limited sort of budget, and was only aiming at the just >100 EUR total in order to qualify for free shipping from hipersemillas. and also just really wanted to try mandala's BTB "prototype".

so i recently did an overhaul, but before i did, i took a few cell phone pictures.

this is the last time it`ll look like this, so densly planted with so many seedlings.

i`ve also decided to make a new thread to document this grow during flowering, with an updated title that actually describes the setup i have.

new title would read something like, "183W: laundry-hamper grow (SSH, White Satin, 8MH, Lillooet, F2)...."

enjoy the view while it lasts

i';ve evicted all the EWS from this grow now, along with many others. transplanted the S.S.H. into a much bigger container (~12-16 L soil) to prepare for a "ScrOG" style training and flowering for this supposed female that's so far grown into a powerful looking bush on its on. should i train the plant to the screen while flowering, or keep it vegging while it fills in the screen? i'm waiting till she gets atleast a hand's-width taller than the sides of the container onto which the screen will be strapped before screen training.

enjoy a pic. the second pic is just labels of strains
