Trying to gain higher efficiency through the use of a chiller, which is simply acting like a middle-man with no advantages in efficiency gained, only losses, without access to very cheap cold water. No, not "very cold" water, "very cheap" water that's cold (enough).
There's one user who had a ridiculously messy and cumbersome setup, who claimed to have had a $200-$300/mo drop in power bill ($300/mo is roughly the equivalent of 1 light running 12/12, on PG&E) after switching to water cooled lighting. Of course, he was upgrading from one of the least efficient methods (indoor-housed window unit + extraction fan) to a chiller (which coincidentally and conveniently happened to be more efficient than the horribly inefficient window unit) placed that didn't have the same requirements. I'm saying that he could have likely seen an even bigger than $200-$300/mo drop with a good split unit, AND he wouldn't have had to buy and set up every single IceBox the way he did, AND been able to take the glass off the hood and instantly gained yield as well. Of course, he saw all the disadvantages of air-cooled lights and more. Is that really a savings? Not in my book.
In short, why are you trying to compare the efficiency of a SUV (indoor-boxed window unit) vs. a compact car (chiller), while at the same time refusing to compare the efficiency of the compact car (chiller) vs. a hybrid car (good high efficiency split unit)?
Their goal isn't to buy stealth at any cost necessary, quite the contrary. The goal was to save as much money as possible.
That's why I liken it to bashing wet river rocks together in an attempt to make fire. I just personally happen to like the convenience of a lighter.

$300 is the equivilent to 1000w 12/12/month? so 10 lights cost me 3000 to run before cooling? your fucking high on drugs and were asked repeatedly as your other alias to please stay out of here. now I'm telling you to get the fuck out. your last post just makes no sense. I internally flip from a flip. 2 rooms. 4 ballasts, 16 hood. you get 4lbs per each 1k ballast??? no? high times article was old.. that's why I reconfigured it to yield. when you pull 17 off 4 ballasts, your welcome to show us the way. my 1 ton AC can cool 10 lights w some inline fans. you gonna tell me how inefficient they are VS. your growing style? removing the glass doesn't make much difference if you have em 18+" above the canopy, jackass. 10k in lights is not close to $3k in power a month, more like closer to 20k.

Uh, .14c/ kwh commercial. has it gone up that much in the last 4-5 years? thats only like $500 for just lighting. 500w in fans and 1400w for my little AC. pumps, veg room w 1000w, and a couple T-5's. Perhaps my sealed hoods w adequate ventilation and a tiny AC is much more efficient than your 2 2+ ton mini splits to cool 2 more lights than me, bare bulbed..

Back on topic though, Im sure the setup this year at the hydro show will be off the hook. I walked thru last year and was impressed. Now I really want one, just need to figure out how to adapt it to a 10k flip flop vertical bare bulb. hmmm more research to come, man this is one expensive hobby

BTW we could meet at my warehouse but it's empty. Trying to figure out the easiest way to grow. I don't want to have to baby sit the thing. Current grows are currently killing me. Hand watering is for people who have no other life....
