So this Lemon Skunk is just getting out of hand! It grew another 1/2" or so overnight. I shit you not...I had to actually move the light up as far as it'll go. If it grows another 3" it'll be in the hood (though I can move it out from under the hood a bit so it won't, that'll mean the top won't get direct sunlight). I think I might just have to top this bitch so she isn't so tall and use the cutting as a clone.

I'll take a new pic sometime today and post it, because the one above is a bit misleading (I was standing up when I took it, this time I'll take it crouching down to get an eye-level view).

I've taken to topping all my plants, keeping them short with multiple colas. My last run, I had two girls that topped out at 12". =)

Judging from that last pic you posted side by side with the kali, I'd chop her so that she's just a bit shorter, in total, including pots, than the kali. Then I'd clean up a bunch on the bottom.

That's what I'd do, if I ran the zoo, said young Gerald McGrew.

Thanks for the advice Bork. I did indeed top this bitch, though not quite as short as you suggested. Reason being is that she's in a much bigger pot than the Kali, and she looks to be mostly done with the stretch, so I topped her low enough to fit better under the lamp (I hope, only time will tell as the new shoots/colas come up). I'll post pics later today...I took the Kali down too!

Day 74, chop chop for the Kali Mist! Pics inside.

Day 74, chop chop for the Kali Mist! Pics inside.

So yesterday was chop day for the Kali Mist. I took it down at 74 days and she was ripe and ready to go. Took a few snapshots before I chopped her. She came in at 131g wet, which should hopefully mean at least 33g once dry. Not bad. I'm happy if I get 1oz. per plant from my cab, but I'd like to work on getting it up to at least 1.5 per plant.

I will be taking pictures of the topped Lemon Skunk later...chopped off about 3-4" on the top and used it as a clone (also took a few from the bottom and cleaned it up a bit and staked her straight).

Thanks Bork and Christoph, glad you guys are enjoying the grow.

I don't have pics for you guys yet, but the final weight of the Kali Mist was 41g (though I might still lose 1-3 or so from further drying). I have them in jars already, but I tend to jar early and just do a lot of airing out over the next few weeks as they cure and finish drying. I'll let you know how she is!

Day 25 in flower (Lemon Skunk) PICS!

Day 25 in flower (Lemon Skunk) PICS!

Did a good watering yesterday for our Lemon Skunk girl. Man is she really growing up. I spent some time cleaning up the bottom, removing lower flowers and fans that just were too blocked to do much (I HATE trimming popcorn buds). I removed a few here and there further up too. I also did a little LST on one of the branches to bring it more out into the open. I think she liked her trim job. Below are pics at 25 days in flower. My topping didn't quite do what I wanted it to, as there are no new shoots growing out from the topped stem, but all of the lower branches seem to have taken off, so I think it'll all turn out fine in the end. Oh, and she smells so good already...I can definitely smell the lemon in her.

The clones are surviving, no roots yet. I guess it'll take some time since I took them so late in flower. I've done some further research here on cloning and I think I realized where my biggest mistake is: using rockwool! I'm going to get a Rapid Rooter type tray and some Rapid Rooter plugs to use next time. I think with that change I'll have much greater success. I sure hope at least one of these works out though because this Lemon Skunk is turning out to be a sweet plant indeed!

On to the pics!

No problem, bro! It's been good to watch your grows progress over the last year! We started up around the same time, but I fizzled out temporarily due to a heavy work schedule. You kept on growing and now you're producing even more beautiful buds. They are magnificent plants. If I continue growing and honing my skills, perhaps I might grow some gems like yours!!!

I'll be harvesting my girls within a few days and am currently sampling some of the early harvest...:canabis: The growing process was fun itself, but the rewards...ahh. Exhilarating.

Well done, my friend! Well done! :tiphat: BTW, your clones look great! Good luck with those babies! Much bigger than the clones I took, perhaps why that's why they didn't take off.

Could you explain a little more about your cloning method?

Thanks again Banjo...such kind words given to such an amateur grower. But sticking with it is half the battle, eh? Thanks for being a regular around our journals.

I'll have to stop by your journal and check it out!

Lol...there's no trick to my method, because I'm such a cloning newb. There's a really, really good thread started by JJ Scorpio on cloning...you should search it out. All I did was cut a flowering stem or top, and put it in rockwool under a dome and my CFL (in the cabs veg room). I failed first time out, horribly. Check out my next post for what happened this time around...

Cloning success!!

Cloning success!!

So this weekend I managed to spend a ton of time getting things tidied up, adding a few new things to the cab and cleaning it up, and putting the new clones in Rapid Rooters.

I've been reading a thread by JJ Scorpio on cloning and learned quite a bit. I decided that my main issue in cloning is that I use rockwool cubes...basically, they suck, because I can't keep them the perfect moisture level. They either are drenched, or they dry out very fast. So I switch to Rapid Rooters and added little egg shell inserts to my dome so that they don't sit on the bottom in a pool of water and get drenched.

I decided that since it didn't appear that the clones were rooted in any way, I would just carefully open the rockwool and transplant them over to Rapid Rooters. The first two I opened did indeed have roots, to my surprise! So, success! I transplanted them over and I hope I didn't do the root systems too much damage...I have a feeling they'll survive. The third one I noticed actually had small bits of root already coming out of the rockwool, so I didn't transplant it, but put it in the egg crate thing as well. I'm going to give it a few days to grow longer roots and then put it in soil and flower it within a week or two. We'll see how it goes.

Needless to say, I'm VERY excited that the clones worked out this time. The Lemon Skunk in the flower chamber is doing wonderful and is probably one of the best plants I've had in my growing career so far. I just hope she lives up to my expectations in the end, because she's looking like a keeper and now I know I can keep her around for a long time!

I also spent hours recycling the soil from the last pots and mixing it into our soil bin. I added a bunch of Sunshines, EWC, Perlite, and fresh nutrient amendments (bone/blood meal, kelp, lime, greensand, etc.). I also whetted it all down with LK, molasses and soluble mycorrhizae. So it's cooking away, nearly ready to use in the flower room.

And then, I also neemed the Lemon Skunk girl again, just as a preventative.

Next update: pictures!

Day 33 of flower; Lemon Skunk pic

As promised, a pic! It's day 33 of flower for our Lemon Skunk girl and she's doing wonderfully well. Lots of good bud sites (maybe too many, if I had my way, but it's too late to trim them now). I just hope they fatten up over the next 25 days or so. She smells nice and skunky, with a bit of light citrus to her.

Oh, and the clones? They succeeded!! There are lots of little roots coming out of ALL THREE of them. God I feel relieved. I really, really love this plant so far so I'm happy they worked out. I will be letting the roots get a tiny bit longer and will be transplanting them over either today or tomorrow. I'll take pics before and after transplant when I do.

On to the pic. Sorry about the crappy color...I was too lazy to take her back out of the cab and set up for a proper shot out from under the HPS. Next time...

Hi KJ. I decided to pop a TFD Pure and found your journals which have been very helpful so thnx! I like your setup BTW it seems like now that you have your cloning working you will be making some leaps and bounds!

A few questions popped up. When you said you Neemed the clones you brought in, what kind of Neem did you use and what mixture? I have been using Dyna-Grow 100% Neem and mixing it exactly as the instructions say. It burns every fan leaf right off whether I do it at lights out or not. So I started spraying them down and let them sit for 30 minutes then rinse them off and bugs dead, burning problem solved. Do you have to rinse yours?

My other question is about the HPS. Do you know what kind of bulb (spectrum) is in it and how many days of 12/12 it has on it?

Thanks and good luck with your new Lemon Skunk!
