Is it possible to yield close to 1.5 GPW with a 400W HPS?

After failing miserably in soil Im going back to hydro but this time itll be my first in 2 x 18 litre DWC recirculating systems. I grow in a cab using only a 400W HPS, my strain of choice will be C99, 2 plants vegged for 4 weeks & flowered for 8 weeks using simple ionic or Vitalink nutes with no training at all. So aiming for approx 1.5 GPW... can it be done?

Yeah, if you use the SCROG method it can be done. 2 GPW even. :) But it doesn't allow much room for errors, so have control over your EC levels and all other factors at play.

it could be done depending on your c99 pheno and just how well your dwc recirculates and oxygenates, without training though, I kind of doubt it, and it being your very first time in a new hydro setup, why set the bar 50% higher than what most people consider a "good" grower? Hell if I got .5 gpw my first time with hydro I would have been super happy.

that being said, you need to pull 10 oz dry off each plant (1 month veg only) to meet your goal.

possible,..... yes.

with a 400?..... much less likely.

This will not happen and you set your bar way too high. You'll be lucky if you can get 1 gram per watt and even that's pushing it if you don't have strains that you've learned to master yet. There's no way that you're going to get 2 half pound plants with a 400 watt HPS but I would be very happy if you proved me wrong.

I am in a 4x4 with 1000w super hps and praying i just get .5gpw. 1.5gpw would be like Christmas.

Maybe you would do better to try a 4x4 type vertical cab grow, that could yield you a higher gpw.

Not to mention that a 400w light puts out less lumens/watt than a 600...so it's less efficient aswell (in a g/w sense).

Don't dry your bud, then you might hit your mark :D

C99 isn't a huge yielder either, @ least the few times I grew it it wasn't.
The smoke makes up for it IMO though.

I personally pulled 6 ounces in a SCROG under a 250 watter..with over a month of veg time..and that's not even close to 1gpw.

Untrained I'd bet a progrower (in a perfect setup w/ co2 and everything...zero hiccups) wouldn't beable to hit 1gpw with that strain..

Best of luck though, and not meaning to rain on your parade.

I'm sure you'll really enjoy the smoke though, she's one of my favorites.

I'm only getting 21 zips right now under a 600 and 400 in a dr120 and this is my best harvest to date been doing it for years and I love bubba kush not a super high yielding strain t boot but I love it,now a better strain for yield would kick ass

I've seem a dude pull of 450g from a single 400hps, and he seemed to do everything perfect, even canopy and huge colas, also he got lucky and got the highest yielding pheno

If you use Mh 400 for veg, use top of the line nutes and very preciesly feed them at their max, using optimal co2 levels and a larger space than really needed for a 400hps to get some extra yield of the sides you might do it.

you should aim for 0.5-1g/w everything between there is VERY respectable
