The singular act of growing plants in a tent killed someone.

Holmes, 28, set up three foil-lined tents each containing marijuana plants cultivated under a battery of halogen lamps.
The powerful lights sent the temperature in his home soaring to more than 100°F (38°C), an inquest heard.
Holmes died in his sleep and was found three days later when pals broke into his house in Halifax, West Yorks.
Police almost fainted from the heat when they entered the property on a warm day last June.
The inquest in Bradford heard that Holmes was a drug user, although no drugs were found in his system.
He died from hyperthermia, or excessive heat. Verdict: Accident.

Proper ventilation isnt just good for the plants....
whats good for the plants is good for the grower.

Stay Safe

Dont understand how his plants look so good but he died. Talk about heat stress, and dying from heat takes a whil, its not an instant thing. Temps in his house would have to be 110f+. Living in 100* is nothing where i'm from.

I have slept at Lake Havasu in 113F temps, so i really don't understand how he died @ 100F. Maybe there was poor air circulation for him + temperature?

100 is nothing.. Is it? Do folks die in the UK when it reaches 100?

we have 100 - 108 every day in the summer.

Maybe there was some CO2 in the air, a bit too much and then he fell in some kind of coma and 3 days later he was a steak.

In the desert I see people (not from here) get way sick from being out in the sun. They're not use to it and think they can hang but they'll end up getting sick and feeling bad for days. Yeah 110 ain't shit.

I cry BS!

I cry BS!

The guy used drugs, grew cannabis, and tested NEGATIVE for drugs? Cannabis metabolites stay in your system for about a month! You mean to tell me he was out and didn't even sample a tad off his plants for over 30 days? Or bummed/bought a joint somewhere? How long has it been since you went a whole month without even a taste?

About the lights- that could be a reporter's mistake- halide/ halogen. Those plants look too healthy to have been grown under the wrong type of lights.

My take is that the guy had medical problems that no one knew about and the coroner missed it (heart defect, stroke, etc) and 100 degree temps just were a contributing factor, at best. Or the coroner totally botched the drug test. Or a perhaps it was a subtle murder (air bubble in the veins, suffocation). After 3 days of 100 degrees, the body would not have been in the best shape! I would think the smell, rather than the heat is what caused the cops to almost pass out. (think of "3 hot days" roadkill)

btw folks... dont accept the pictures posted with the article (or articles) as genuine from the scene photos - there are a few different reports online of of the incident, some have different pictures.

http://www.olceoktavia.com/2010/05/druggie-killed-by-heat-of-his-cannabis/

http://www.themorningstarr.co.uk/2010/05/17/cannabis-grower-cooks-himself-with-drug-equipment/

and none of them look like pictures of "3 foil-lined tents"

but seriously.... is the uk media guilty of "misreporting" the whole incident lol ????

Those are just 'File Photos'.
The pics are not of his foil lined tents and halogen lamp grown in 100deg heat.

I vote Darwin Award. With enough effort and lack of hydration, it could be easy to die in 100 degree heat. Never said anything about his Alcohol intake or BAC, easily could be a contributing factor when working in 100 heat. I am guessing he was drinking beer/liqour not water.
Shit mine can get as high as 85 and I can only work in there for 30min at a time.

I am, however, a cold weather mountain boy.
