Fact vs. Fiction
Read Sam the Skunkman's posting about the Haze Brothers with great interest and wanted to clear up a few things. First, I was there in Santa Cruz in the Seventies when it was all happening and never heard the original growers refer to themselves as the Haze Brothers. The infamous Haze Brothers did actually exist, but they were consumers, not growers.

How do I know? I was one of those three brothers and we bought, smoked and shared as much Haze as probably anyone on the planet. We were originally herb connoisseurs from back east who had grown up on the best Columbian, Jamaican, Panama Red, Thai Stick, etc. But even with our backgrounds, we had never seen, smelled or smoked anything like the Haze. The first time we saw those dark purple buds, we could hardly believe it (nor the price, which was $250 per ounce). From that point on, it became the Dom Perignon of our stashes.

So as far as the tasting test with R from High Times Magazine in New York, it did happen and we roasted, toasted and basted him with three varieties of Haze. He was kind of cocky when we got there and more like cold-cocked when we left. Even with all the high quality weed out there today, I don't think any of it is better or more exotic than the first Purple Haze, which was so dark and delicious, we called it the Root Beer.

Two last notes. First, there was a band, The Original Haze, that played in clubs around Santa Cruz in the Seventies that was part of the story. Second, for those rare few who were lucky enough to own one, there was a beautiful, limited edition grower's poster, that listed the soil ingredients, directions and Haze philosophy, In Haze We Trust. The last line of the poster read "Enjoy!" and we lived by that motto.

So that's the story behind the story.

Guys and Gals;
Lets imagine an extremely pleasant scenario. I win the lottery tomorrow and am able to set up an extremely large grow facility for exotic sativas in an appropriate location (i.e. safe from the law). Since haze has been quoted as being (Mexican/Colombian/S. Indian/Thai) can I ask 3 questions?
1. Would it be possible to re create the work done to create haze? Or have the appropriate genetics from the various locations been lost or corrupted?
2. What current genetics would you use to create an ultimate sativa?
3. Is there a single land race anywhere on the globe that would be mangeable and could compete with Haze?

Bushweed;
Are you by any chance "Know it all 4 sure" (this isn't exactly the handle but it's as close as my appalling memory can produce). Post more about the Haze Brothers. I'd love to hear more from someone on the spot. Was it a female Mexican(s) X Colombian male(s) then the best female(s) X a S. Indian male(s) then the best female(s) X a Thai male(s). How big was the breeding population? What criteria were used to choose plants for the next generation? Were the seeds simply chosen from whatever exceptional smoke was available at the time?

DR little

its great to dream but thats all it is

1
no never because this was before indo lighting the sativas at that time were all imported from the sweet spots around the globe and before the goverment destoryed various field in various location with many heirlooms being lost forever

reguardless if you can gather specific genetics used in the makin of ohaze it wouldnt be of the quality as the switch of cultivating for money wit plants such as poppy an coca made many of farmer that traditionally grew family lines for generations stopped maintain lines during wars that destoryed fields and genetics .the gov plays a big part in the destruction of much history

2
colombian/ thai /african

3
im sure many

i havnt experience but i seen a few compare zamal ,im sure a colombian wacky weed ,black african should hold its weight

bushweed anint kno it all
becaz i believe (kno it all) was SAMS at another site

this/my thread to my knowledge has the most info of ohaze on the net to date read it front to back

any questions drop em SAMS is here hopfully he can shed som light

For many years now I have been a member of the various forums, and I have read much information on all of the more legendary varietys in the world. I have grown more famous Dutch lines than you shake a stick at and have seen some varietys hyped well beyond their means and some varietys that were very good, despite their lack of attention among the masses.

The Nevilles Haze is said to be originated from the earliest Haze stock available. The lines are said to trace back to genetics from 1969. There are indeed many documented grow reports on the Nevilles Haze which support its description as some of the best in the world.

The Flying Dutchmen Original Haze is not as old as the Nevilles Haze lines I have read, and definitely has a lack of grow reports to back up the legendary status this variety has. Also interesting to note the Dutchmen Original Haze is much faster then Pure Haze is generally given credit for. For many years now the Dutchmen Original Haze has been available, but very few grow reports have documented its life cycle.

You can have people tell you its LSD marijuana all you want, but if that was the truth and the Original Haze was that good it would be grown more frequently then the various Kush lines on the boards.

I remain unconvinced the Original Haze is as good as many say it is. Where are the grow reports? The numerous first hand accounts of the dutchmens genetics?

No disrespect to anybody, but you have to stop and think sometimes.
A lot of commercial growers are in it for the money. Haze takes to long to mature and the yield is small. I got to smoke it for the first time in 1990. Dude was charghing $240 for a half ounce. It looked like trash, stringy, and airy. Bag Appeal makes no difference to me. Lets smoke it and see where it takes me. The high is out of this world. To bad for you because you haven't indulged. I'm sure it would change your mind.:smokeit:
