FreeMan - Yep....it's a Nirvana White Widow. I've not had a huge amount of joy with these so far, but this one is looking OK in veg:

RudeDog - Power Black was created by the UK's very own VerdantGreen. It's genetics are Power Plant x Black Forrest.....Black Forrest being Vietnamese x (Hawaiian Sativa x Cherry AK-47). I expect it to be very sativa-influenced....

Here's a retread photo from the Power Black male I had recently. Definitely not as broad-leaved as the Black Cheese boy I just chopped :

Thanks for the pic update Blimey, have you done a grow/smoke report on it in the past? I'd be interested to read if you have. Any plan to top it or are you going for single cola?

The only girl I've had so far out of this pack.......was the most spider mite prone thing I've ever grown....got hit early and never got that big. Potency was good.....can't recall any particular taste or smell. I remember putting up a side-by-side photo with a GP12 in my Free Tibet thread, and the GP12 was much more vigorous.

I probably won't top it....want to see what it can do single-cola style without spider mite issues. Maybe on a later run.....

Some nice soundin genes you got there mate. Love readin about the make up of different strains.

We got some top notch strains in the UK.

I'm a bit of a genetics nerd myself......I have to know what the make up of different strains is. Been compiling a list, which is now insanely long, and will never keep up with all the new stuff coming out left, right, and centre.

But you are spot on about the top genetics floating around the UK nowadays. I just consider myself lucky to have acquired a very small sampling so far....plenty of stuff out there I'd give my right arm to have a chance of running.

Rest assured anything new that crosses my path will be showcased front and centre ;)

The Freakazoid (a Black Forrest) turned out to be a boy.....so it got smoked, along with a branch of the Black Forrest girl that was growing into the light. With the caveat that my system was clean as a whistle, I was surprised at the potency.....which I will take as a good sign. Also noteworthy was that it was ultra-quick to show sex.

As for the Black Forrest girl....day 50 of 12/12....so maybe halfway there, or a bit less...she seems to have slowed down in the stretch....but I think I might need to take some action....

She's filled out more further down:

And....for FreeMan, here's the White Widow, day 4 of 12/12:

Hope everyone is enjoying their "420"....

Edit to add Newsflash: Congratulations to Shooey for getting 2nd place in the Indica Growers Cup!!!! The force is strong in this one....

Hope everyone is enjoying their "420"....strange Americanism that it is. But certainly better than the other things today is usually remembered for.
Thanks Blimey, hope you're 420 is green. It's one 'ism' I'll happily adopt.

This widow looks similar to the Green House cut I have thoroughly enjoyed. It's more sativa leaning with relatively thin leaves..., stretches to about double it's height and goes for a looong time! Hope this one turns out to be a frosty lady. Did you start this from fem or regular seed? You might have told me but my memory is bad ;) Looking healthy either way man :good:

I don't think I mentioned it ;) ..... it's Nirvana regular WW. I'm not really one for buying feminized beans unless that's the only way to get the strain. Can't make beanz without boyz!

Everything seems to be growing better now. Aside from the cold issues before, I think none of my experiments with different soil media/additives paid any dividends at all. The "Tropical Forest Substrate"/Orchid Bark stuff especially was phucking up the pH, I think. Just speculation, of course, without pH testing equipment.

So back on J. Arthur Bower's Multi-purpose compost cut 50/50 with perlite at the moment, and everything seems much happier, even with cab temps not getting above 70 with lights on.

Thanks for clearing that up Blimey, I am in similar standing when it comes to seeds... the only fem'd seeds I've had were free gifts. I'm still a little shy of letting a boy run lose in my space though.

Glad to hear things are on the up in general. I myself am glad to see the back of the cold.

A lot of people seemed to get freaked by the risk of accidental pollination, but it's a few days between showing balls and being ready to drop pollen, so as long as you can check your grow daily, there's no problem.

If you just want to pollinate "a little", just take the male out of the room once the balls start to dangle, collect the spooge and dust manually. A tiny bit of pixie dust goes a very long way.

Of course.....I remember way back when I was living overseas, and had to leave my grow in the tender care of my partner-in-crime while I was out of town for a week. One night I phoned home to see how things were and was told "there's yellow stuff all over the plants...what is it?". Got several hundred Lemon Skunk x NL seeds that I hadn't really planned on lol

hey blimey it looks happy - i should keep a scythe handy ;)
shame you havent got a girl from the BF crosses yet as they are much quicker and probably more potent (actually BF is potent but in a less conventional way)
dont be scared of popping more seeds - there's plenty more and f2's to come at some point.

Hey VG! Thanks for dropping in :)

Got a Black Cheese in the towels, which has cracked.....sideways ?!? No root emerging yet...we shall see. Plenty left in the baggie to work through.

Another BF is in veg....at least I know that I don't need to veg them long ;) Will keep this one in a small pot again, see the difference in final height with the one in the big 4 Litre (assuming a girl).

Got a Power Black just put into flower....we shall see how it and the big BF do against spider mites, as I've seen a couple and a little spotting. Gave everything a good spraying with my bug killer, and now the whole room stinks of cheesy feet far worse than any plant I've ever grown lol

About 2mm of vertical height left on the big BF.....time to get the sticks and string out!

Does my BF girl resemble yours in early flower re bud formation/structure? Yours ended up like giant candy floss buds....I'd be well chuffed if my one develops that sort of final bud structure...

hey blimey i think mine did look a bit like that at one point - you can check my album if you like. i wonder if topping it might be a good plan - take off a few inches and the lower parts should keep filling out. your call though really.
as for your soil mix i would suggest a perlite compost ratio of 30% to 70% - then you will have a bit more soil in the pots. remember that perlite, although it has it's function, has no fertility and is basically reducing the amount of soil in the pot and thus the nutrition for the plant too.
good luck with the mites. if you give them another blast after 2-3 days it should kill the ones that were still eggs last time. keeping the humidity up helps against mites too. ive been leaving water in saucers and the bottom tray and its also been drowning quite a few gnats :)

cheers

Thanks for the tips - I'll have a trawl thru your albums...always a fun way to spend an hour or so in any case!

I think I will go the topping route....as she doesn't seem to be doing a lot at the top just yet. Tying her down will probably give me grief with the position of the light in any case. She had hit the ceiling when I checked her at about 1am this morning. I love it when you can see noticeable growth in a couple of hours.

My humidity is always pretty high....a by-product of my overeager trigger-finger on the watering can, and the lack of ventilation during lights out. The fungus gnats are much reduced now....I think that orchid bark stuff was a paradise for them, and they don't handle the new mix so well.

After that long string of females, we now seem to be having the flip side of the coin, with several males in a row.

So that White Widower, as he turned out to be.....has shuffled off this mortal coil.

The Black Forrest was topped at day 53 (pic last night from day 59, I think).....and this has stopped vertical growth very effectively.

You can see a little bit of spider mite spotting.....but it seems to be holding steady after a couple of treatments.

I've smoked a fair bit off the bottom of her......and it's a very nice smoke given how far from the finish line we are. Very smooth uplifting high, long lasting, with good potency. Smell of curdled milk, and a hint of coconut. The high reminds me of the (Jamaican?) weed I used to get in the mid 80's, right back at the start of my smoking career.

Borrowed a friends copy of Avatar on DVD.....very good film after a couple of smokes....highly recommended.

Avatar = F1 hybrid of A Man Called Horse (or Dances With Wolves) x The Matrix.....I agree it's a bit predictable but great entertainment.

Well.....my pennies are now going towards a pH meter, been getting various problems with unexpected lockouts and spotting which I think are probably pH related, and it's been annoying me more and more. Probably better to get these ongoing issues sorted before thinking of upgrading the light/cab setup.

*sidenote... good call on the pH pen mate, I personally don't know how I'd manage without one :)

Hey Blimey have you had any trouble with your arthur bowers soil? Got mine from macro two for the price of one. It was riddled with fungus gnat larvae. Learned my lesson its worth paying a couple of quid extra even if its only miracle grow. having to get some neem Oil.
