Cant find a good answer.

I want to just mix the three bags and dump them into the boxes cover and plant.

will this work or should I just go with the EB soil

I have an earthbox, but have never tried a good soil mix in it yet. I see no reason why it wont work, and am going to try it with LC mix this summer.

I dont see why it wouldn't work either. Just want to make sure it wont get all muddy, so I figured Id put Perlite in the wick area.

I use earthboxes outside(along with a few homemade ones)....and I use a mixture of coco & peat. Not sure whats in Moonshine mix...but if it's peat based...your good to go. If it's soil....I would at least cut it with 50% peat or coco.

I wouldnt put the perlite in the wick area.. They are made to wick the moisture up... just put the moonshine in and go

would bad bacteria (anaerobic) form at the wicking area due to limited or no oxygen? I have been watching these boxes/buckets take hold at other sites and it is usually mentioned as a caution.

No!

You add fresh water(& nutes if needed) every 2nd day. It's the same as a Hempy bucket.

that might work for bottle users... what about using blood, bone, kelp, green sand, or other dry amendments like what are found in lc mix? moonshine mix is composed of dry amendments... ...i think.

same as hempy? maybe... in some aspects.

i understand that the water reservoir is for fresh clean water on the eb, but with hempys it's a bit of a different story. the hempy reservoir holds water that falls through the medium which will contain some of the nutes and bacteria (if organic). am i wrong? can you use dry nutes rather then hydro nutes in a hempy?

if i don't make sense please jump in. I'm not trying to start crap. i just want the facts before i go screwing things up without a clue. dry nutes and stagnant water just sounds like a recipe for disaster.

hmmm...

then what I would do is put the moonshine mix in the wicks before any amendments, then the amended soil would go on top of that. This way it's not getting logged and rotting in soaked water mud soil.

I would then add just water to the res till I see that they need some aditional stuff. But I would think that by then the roots would be down in the res and you could but tea down in there and it wuold get soaked up...

just put soil in and go. earthboxes were designed well and use dry ferts. organic or chem both work. no need to add perlite in the bottom.,

I am in the process of building 2, 5g diy earth boxes. i'll give it a try soon as i get off my but. i'd like to find a net pot that will fit in as the wick basket, rather then putting holes this plastic cup.
