What's new

Is is me or do some growers in Cali actually not want pot legalised??

do you grow your own tomatoes?

one day i hope to never rely on a grocery store again apart from basic things i cant produce but not at this moment. look how shitty grocery store food is. its terrible. once we let big business get their hands on MMJ its going to go to shit.

the only ideal solution for this type of society i see is the status quo except with no growers or consumers of marijuana ever being molested by the law

unfortunately that magical fairy tale land doesn't exist

the problem goes deeper than what you guys are discussing. look at our economic systems and the societies we live in. it is all against the little guy. i think everyone should be able to do whatever they want with themselves without any interference from any form of authority and i just dont like the idea of some ass official telling me i cant sell mmj because my permit isn't valid for the fiscal quarter of the great economic year of 2014

the hypothetical drivel spewing in this thread is hilarious!!!!

all i see from the prohibitionists is "if this happens that will happen causing that to happen and the rosthchilds and the bildeberg group have planted the gps rfid chip in r. lee's brain causing him to want money"

you got more of my respect by saying "this may fuck with my money" instead of cockeyed potential henny penny the sky is falling bullshit

what we needs is decriminalization so that people stop going to jail for weed.

u say alot of shit that makes sense and this is one of em. whatever give me a fine for growing but dont take away my freedom. it'll be a holdover until we finally escape the tyrannical oppression of modern government and all forms of authority

all i want is a cabin with a porch i can piss off whenever i damn well please and a field of dope in the back and no fucking cop coming around to put the cuffs on me.

No eutopia...but if I can grow my own meds without threat of LEO taking my house, kids, and my freedom away then that's all good. Anyone who can't see that isn't really worth trying to convince otherwise as you probably don't have the capacity to comprehend it anyway.

what about every other aspect of your life that the government imposes itself on? personally even if i was allowed to grow fields of weed in the current environment i still wouldn't be satisfied knowing that i still live in shackles and a pseudo-police state

Not when every Hydro shop on the country is owned by 2 corporations and the new government issued id's track all of your purchases...oh, yeah, order your complete commericial hyrdoponic set up online from some store in europe...things will be so lax now that weed is legal....

Oh jeez, break out the tin foil hats.

That's a piss poor reason to oppose legalization.

The small Mom and Pop growers are going to be put out of business! This shit is going to be everywhere! Good luck keeping AgriCorps out of the business. The small legal home grower will be devastated by the PLUMMETING PRICES on the market UNTIL THEY GAIN COMPLETE CONTROL! How many moonshiners are left today after Alcohol was legalized? 99.9% of all Alcohol is produced now by Anheuser Busch, Smirnoff, etc., etc., etc.

Read articles from the 20's & 30's. Moonshiners claimed they weren't worried about Alcohol being legalized, they claimed that their product was "too good" to be produced on a mass production scale! Where are they today? Ancient Chinese proverb: "Beware of what you dream....for dreams sometimes come true!"

Look what happened to the small farmers in the midwest. Remember the old Rockwell paintings of the Yeoman farmer with his wife and 'PitchFork'? They're all but gone. Corporate AgriBiz has made them obsolete. Tell me this is not just the begining of a Corporate takeover of the industry. Phillip Morris and other tobacco giants are pushing for this! WHY?

Drive the prices so low that the only person who can make a profit, be more competitive, have higher productivity and can produce product cheaper is the massive Agri-Industry. For many 'THIS IS NOT A BUSINESS...IT'S A WAY OF LIFE'!

and id like to point out all of the well thought out and reasonable posts in that same thread that refute your scare tactics

and make no mistake what you and your prohibitionist buddies are engaging in the spreading of propaganda and scare tactics..

you are the o.n.d.c.p. how does it feel?

maybe you could let folks know about how pot is a "gateway drug"
or maybe how pot is more dangerous than tobacco
maybe you could help by telling people how just one hit of devil marijuana will have their children sucking a mexican drug lords dirty sanchez for smack in a week!!!

Oh jeez, break out the tin foil hats.

if the government could they'd chip us all. they can't now because many people still retain a sense of individualism and freedom (although it is hard to see) but given the chance they'd do it. they got away with iraq , they are just gonna keep pushing the buttons until this idea you claim as tinfoiled comes to fruition. over 1 million iraqi civilians dead so far and there still hasn't been a revolution in the USA, how much farther can they push it? after vietnam the knew they could get away with whatever they please. personally i think its inevitable barring massive natural calamities that disrupt our way of life and government systems. they are truly unstoppable.

you guys are funny

there is NO money in selling and producing alcohol either right?

I mean when it was illegal there were so many people making boat loads of money right?

The market will decide a price no matter if it is legal or not. Only difference is the amount of locations to get it at.

For instance when you go to buy alcohol do you go for 7-11 brand alcohol or do you get what you like? Maybe hard alcohol, ever tried albertsons brand vodka YUM YUM who needs higher quality stuff right?

Legal or illegal doesn't justify many people getting locked up over a damn plant. If someone making money while it is illegal is bitching about them losing their easy job BUT thousands of people get out and get to live at home with their family then so be it.

Everyone can happily be out for themselves if they choose except for when THEY get locked up for it then WHY ISN'T THIS LEGAL YET!!!!!!

It has to hit home for people to care I suppose.

Everyone is thinking that just because it is legal there will be a million people growing. Those who are too scared to grow now odds are won't be up and running right off the bat. Those who grow whether illegal or med carded WILL still be doing it how they always have been doing it. Not talking shit on people who are too scared to grow though, I understand the possible jail time, losing a house, being publicized as a damn drug dealer and so on is enough reason for many to NOT do it.

I however see another side which worries me, it will be the regulations that can and will come with it. It needs to be decriminalized and NOT legalized. We shouldn't have to prove anything but rather be able to do with a PLANT as we choose. Start selling then yes just like many businesses you have to pay local/state/federal taxes on income. I don't agree with federal income tax BUT do agree with city/state IF it actually went to something that made sense.

cash croppers will always cash crop and if the crop doesn't pay their bills and extra cash they will either move onto something else OR step up their game as far as quality goes or pricing.

If it costs you $10 to $30 a zip to grow and you sell for $300 a zip I think there is plenty of room for price adjustments AND still be able to make a decent living.

I do not agree with the statements however about "get a real fuckin job" bullshit. Or why do something illegal and shady bullshit statements. If you are legal in one state and not in another that is a political issue and not a judge on a persons character.

So in one state I would be a drug dealer but in cali I am a caregiver? I think that is a bullshit methology and thought process.

We need to be more liberal? yeah that will fix it all LOL

How about getting back to the REPUBLIC that we are supposed to be and remove all this democratic bullshit which happens on the republican and democratic sides. Let people CHOOSE, don't decide for them.

Exactly. It's all about markup. People need to look at what they spend in electricity, nutes, supplies, and time invested and look at the return they're getting. Right now, it's a black market in most places, so it's huge. Committing a felony 24/7 has risk associated with it, and that is reflected in the price. The markup won't be anywhere near where it is now when it's legal, but that doesn't mean it's going to be so low that it won't be worth it.

I have really been enlightened here after reading this thread. What I get from a few individuals here is that you have chosen a profession that is illegal and now because the rest of us want to lawfully grow our own we should feel sorry for you that it may actually become legalized? That's like a thief getting pissed off that I put bars on my doors and windows. Gimme a break.

Grow the best and you will profit, end of story. There will be a huge niche market for cannabis that can't be stopped.

I have always down deep believed it was the growers that make a living growing cannabis is the reason it is still prohibited. That will surely change soon I hope. We all deserve to profit on a fair playing field if that is what you choose. I personally just want to grow enough for me and a few buddy's. If someone needs some smoke I would hook them up.:blowbubbles:

Its going to be just like beer brewing. You'll always have the sub par stuff produced by the major breweries, then you have the micro brewies producing top notch. People can't get away with selling unflushed 7 week choke spectacular grade for 40 an 1/8 anymore. There will always be a place for the homegrown tomato seller at the local farmers market, which is what many of us are.

General concensus with Colorado at the moment.

Do what you want Californians,
But remember, grow a crop first, before you tell others how to grow theirs!

I fully understand both sides of this. Well name calling is not called for, I feel the frustration that people are experiencing. This isn't just a product, IT'S A WAY OF LIFE- A 'CULTURE'!

What I feel is that both sides are right! I wouldn't put 'financial gain' over people's freedom because some Nazi Sherriff wants to lock up a brother either. But it doesn't have to be one or the other!

If anyone with half a brain applied themselves right now THEY CAN DO ANYTHING UNDER OUR CURRENT LAWS! I know many who have dedicated a great deal of their life to perfecting their art. And, like it or not, The powerful Tobacco industry is putting A HELL OF A LOT OF 'MONEY' OVER MANY GROWERS 'FREEDOM' TO MAKE A LIVING!

As Johnny Lydon (PIL) said: "big business is very wise". We need to be aware of who were getting in bed with! If your fine with the Walmart model of cheap crap, pushing out Craftsmen and Artisans, than fine.

Right now Californians consume between $870 million and $ 2 billion worth of medical marijuana per year! That's where Phillip Morris' love comes from!

IT IS AN AMAZING HOMEGROWN INDUSTRY THAT HAS BEEN BUILT BY HARDWORKING GROWERS IN SHEDS, CLOSETS AND BASEMENTS EVERYWHERE! PEOPLE WHO HAVE ENDURED RIDICULE, ISOLATION, 3AM RESERVOIR CHANGES AND MIDNIGHT TRASH DUMPS!

WE BUILT IT!

Again, that's where Phillip Morris' love comes from! Where are the Moonshiners of the 20's and 30's who claimed their product was too 'refined and superior' to be massed produced? WHERE ARE THEY?! They could never have imagined how lucky we are right now! By not being completely legal- the prices remain high enough to provide a living. By applying and using the laws that exist- NOBODY HAS TO GO TO JAIL!!!

Corporate America can't believe that the small grower has the nerve, THE AUDACITY, to have that $2 Billion going through the common man's hand! AFTER THEY LOWER THE PRICES LOW ENOUGH TO CORNER THE MARKET- THEY ARE GOING TO GOUGE THE FUCK OUT OF YOU!

Sell out to Phillip Morris and big Tobacco, and the only thing that will happen is you are going to switch who gets that same $2 billion a year. CORPORATE AMERICA OR THE COMMON MAN!

Indeed,... 'this is NOT a love song'!

Two billion? Hahahaahahahahaa!! Uh, Mendocino county alone produces roughly 9-12B per year in weed, I think your estimates might be missing a 0 or two.

It cracks me up that some folks think that weed will continue to sell for $300 an oz after legalization. Try $100 (plus $50 tax per ZIP) and where is your profit margin? It will be around 50%, which will be low enough that if you're only growing 3# a crop you'll only be bringing home about $2400 per crop net, X5 crops a year, oooh you'll make $12K a year.

It will cost more to buy the gear and grow it than it will to buy it. All of the guys on here with less than 8KW will probably quit. Then who will be here to hate on the commercial growers? lol ;) Basically if prices fall as some California Govt officials are estimating, and you make $800 per pound profit, you'd need to grow 62.5# a year to make $50K. That is 5X12.5 crops in a year. Shit, I know way easier and less stressful jobs that pay more than that man. Why bother? I bet lots of former cash croppers with less than an 8KW grow will quit as it won't be worth it anymore.

The risks of robbery won't go away, the risk of cops doesn't go away. The only thing that goes away is profit margins.

thats assuming that the major players even ALLOW you to do that. richard lee wants to create a monopoly in oakland where its only HIS CLUBS.

if you pop up in the corner with your super fire high grade, and you havent been approved to grow or sell beyond the "legal" limits, you will still be labeled illegal. and you wont be able to even compete in black market because legal market is too cheap.
