Thanks for the input DG. This has turned out to be a great 30 page debate with lots of good info from lots of good growers.

Ok im a complete nubie on here,.. and i read one page of this and thought i put my foot in.. any nutrient company that tries to sell you 10 bottles where most of the stuff can be put together eith in the 1 or 2 nutrient bottles or substrate... a more complete understanding of plant biology and commercial horticulture will make u think advanced is marketing based not product based.

Anyways i know if u keep your temp and humidity at the PERFECT climate day and night you can grow ace bud using VERY basic nutrients and most people in the know would agree. Having said that i dont doubt there are very good additives, enezymes, enzyme food and other stimulants which work very well. I use a few myself.

Peace

I remember the discoloration issue, and I was retailer then. It was food coloring. it wasnt diluted and it worked/sold fine. That has been the 1 time I can remember GH almost screwing up, and that was directly them, and not who they outsource for for their other products.

Now this is not GH's fault but shows you how popular they were when the nammer stores where selling fake 24 liter bottles of Grow/Bloom/Micro back in the day and GH had to send out posters showing the difference in the label.

Also I believe the guy that was running this thing http://www.citytv.com/toronto/cityn...-bust-in-mississauga-leaves-police-astonished was also responsible for creating/designing quite a few products for some of the bigger hydro food companies including GH.

Marketing vs. Your Security

Marketing vs. Your Security

There is a security issue here that does not get mentioned often enough with regard to the way the nutrient companies market their products. If I'm not mistaken, most growers are still growing for recreational, not medical use. And in the overwhelmingly vast majority of the U.S. and Canada, recreational growing is illegal.

The nutrient and product manufacturers who choose not to market to the marijuana market do so not only for their security, but for their customers security as well. It's called "plausible deniability" in front of a jury of your peers... if the product is marketed solely for marijuana, you lose that legal distinction. It is the same reason you cannot go into a head shop, even in medical marijuana states, and buy a "marijuana pipe", but asking for a tobacco pipe isn't a problem.

If the prosecution can prove definitively in court that AN is marketed solely for marijuana growing, a jury is going to be much more impressed by the empty AN bottles the cops fished out of your trash during their investigation. If the bottles fished out of the trash are nutrients that are advertised for use with vegetables and flowers, that piece of evidence is suddenly not as important. This may explain why AN doesn't really have anything "official" on their website mentioning marijuana, although Mike's how-to grow Big Fat Buds the Size of Your Arms, his Bud Banner, and his detailed criminal history videos might negate any benefit he gained by keeping his website free from marijuana words or images.

It seems to me that the nutrient manufacturers who would rather help their customers stay out of jail so they will continue to buy their nutrients, come out the winners in the long run, no matter how well a product works.

Not to mention that most of the nutrients that are sold in the hobby hydroponic industry produce kick-ass, nutritional vegetables as well.

I feel compelled to point out that anyone who disposes of their empty nute bottles with their household trash doesn't understand the concept of security, and are ultimately doomed to fail.I also doubt any prosecuting attorney would go through the trouble of proving that AN is marijuana specific considering that if they have you in a court trial they obviously have hard evidence against you, like the marijuana plants they found when they kicked your door in.

too funny. took the words right out my mouth! There's a million dumpsters in this town. choose one! I wouldn't leave any fertilizer bottle in my trash for a jury to see. the bottles would be in the grow rooms control room! I dont think having AN vs a popular general pourpose fert is going to be a case breaker...

Yes, I agree... however, it is quite obvious that not everyone who tries to grow thinks these things through. I believe someone actually called a news channel recently in Colorado about their grow, and we saw how that turned out. I guess my point was more in the investigation aspect of trying to get enough evidence to warrant a search.

I really hope this was a joke, but im sure its wanst. If a jury is impressed by empty bottles, you should be paying your lawyer with a knuckle sandwich.

empty bottles lol, im all for responsible disposal, but if this is what your case hangs on, the prosecutor sucks, and if your still worried about the outcome, your lawyer really really sucks.

empty bottles are only good for cops to get a warrant or build up suspicions, and if you get caught growing im sure the last piece of evidence they look at is empty bottles, im sure the plants and lights are more important, lol

I use AN Mother Earth with no complaints. Connaseur is shit in soil but awesome in soilless and hydro. It is way expensive though.(Thank goodness for samples).I've used overdrive and big bud with great results. Mother Earth wasn't that pricey. All my other nutes(gallons worth) were samples from other companies. I don't like to pay for nutes. LOL

I'm still running samples from SF last year too! People say certain brands don't work with eachother I went years running a different brand of fert or add every res!. shhhh!! Don't tell my plants!;)

MET alone will grow nice organic buds. goes to show you even an additive can be used as a fert and work great. I like vermicrop tea better, but I've used MET before with good results.

am i missing something or is AN reducing the concentration of several of their products (e.g. hammerhead going from 9/18 to 4/8)?

are they adjusting prices or just bending a bunch of us over?

i'm sure there is a scientific reason for the change that AN has all the answers to. i'm also sure this new formula has a higher price, a higher application rate, and guarantees a % increase in yield etc...

how is their mother earth tea? toohigh? any word is appreciated
If I remember it was less than $30/gal and it works fine. I did one run in soil with just Mother Earth and only used bat guano for bloom booster and they were tasty and potent as hell. You don't have to spend hundreds on nutes to get good bud.
