that is nice, the led side is looking really nice, getting a little convinced that they are definitely great for vegging.

Thanks to you, Blazeone, LEDgirl and Freezerboy... et al. Great thread and write up. I learned how to read years ago so it has been easy to follow along. Being a Warshintonion myself I am pullin for the grow. My simple understanding is that HPS has great INTENSITY but so very little plant=usable spectrum; and the LED, again assuming i read english good, has great plant-usable SPECTRUM with low intensity. I get that. I also get that this is not a test of HID V.s LED but more a head to head "lets see what they do, side by side.

Golly Wally, my interest in light and light spectrum goes back to the first days of Electro Luminaneseancs (sp?) and W.P&E and their dreams of EL in Any spectrum and ANY intensity... with ma$$ive $ales to the DoD... them W.P&E boys was great dreamers and even greater pot smokers... but, even then, 1994(?) they was growing great weed under EL (edit. WITH and at the same time HID...). Amazing what what ma$$ive amounts of R&D funding can do...

But, I digress.

Blaze-on, Blaze.

LEDgirl, can you show a spectrum breakdown? Using normal words like 'red' or 'blue' or 'white' are confusing the young ones. What do PLANTS need what do LEDs provide...(I know, it been writ before, but I cant be bothered to go look sumthin up, can I...?)

Freezerboy ( and you'alll other Mods) Thank the Dank Gaweds for cleaning up after the not-yet-house broken. OG suffered to death under mob rule.

Hey, I think this is post 2 @ ICMAG. cool

EL made its way into lightsaber "toys" for enthusiasts...so did LED....EL looks cooler lit...LED looks cooler while lighting...eheh.

Word Up Emperor.

These things veg very well....I am looking forward to seeing a higher wattage LED array flower.

Once the big buds come, everyone will be sold.

I saw a vid on a 90W ufo vs a 400W hps and they both yielded. the LED took longer and was more than 25% less productive in fruit. For 90W vs 400W I am actually impressed by the LED in this test I mention.

With this setup I would expect the scales to balance out a little more. What the market really needs is for the viable LED tech to come down in price so that it can compete. I find it hard to justify an order of magnitude delta regarding startup/system build cost in order to outfit my closet with led...even though operating costs may lessen month to month with LED that initial hit is enough of a deterrent to make me wait.

hi blaze they are looking good :)

so the HID side is a metal halide? are you using this for the whole grow or will you swap to HPS when you flip them ??

sorry if you already explained this

cheers

There have been some good LED tests on ICG, but this one is shaping up to be definitive (for the current state of LED tech, anyway) since it seems to be setup perfectly and clones are being used. Thanks!

I was looking in your album and thought the small one was the led side, but to my amazement, the MH is the one behind! I'm a week or so from chopping in my test grow. About the time mine's ending the show will just be getting good in here. See ya.

I didn't mean to come off as critical on your test, I can't seem to find any pictures in the thread to base that statement. As far as what I said about LED's, I'm talking about screw in's. I stand by that they are to focused, and no I'm not going to contact an LED manufacturer. Their expensive, I think they would do better globed so they spread more light around. I'm not going to buy a 400 Watt LED, I paid a lot for a 12 Watt.

Tagged. I love the thought you put into your builds. It is easy to see that you respect the plant enough to give it the attention to detail in all areas, it so rightfully deserves. Thanks for sharing and educating.
Peace.

Update time, I went over tonight and I was suprised to find that the LED side is really way ahead of the HID side.

Here are some pictures of them at day 16.

Led and MH side by side with lights on!

Led and MH with no lights on!

LED side!

MH side

Biggest plant from LED and HID, Led on left Hid on right!

Once I got over and noticed the LED is really kicking the HID sides butt, I done some checking cause this just didn't sit right with me, I know the led growth is exellent but something isnt right on the HID side of things, So upon further inspection I found the brand new MH bulb setting in the closet on the shelf.

I feel like an asshat, I never put the new bulb in, So the HID side has been growing on a very old bulb, I went ahead and replaced the old bulb with the new one and now next week updates should show much better growth on the HID side.

So to be fair the LED side is winning, But I imagine things would be much closer had the new MH bulb been installed from the start. The old bulb that was in there was long over due for replacement. With that said, The LED is doing great so far in veg and seems pretty equal to what I would expect from any of my urkle runs at day 16 using HID lighting. However the HID side is quite a bit behind what I expect and this is what helped me figure out I didn't change the bulb.

That's all I have for now until next time be safe and take care!!!

Blaze - I noticed in the last pic that the led looked like it had purple leaves, was that just reflection from the led in the background?

Peace
