Nice work Scrubs and thanks for the rep. Added soil was key but the tray inhibited root growth. I've seen roots grow through net pots no problem but they're hydro setups. Didn't work too go with soil, lol.

I just potted up the big TWx into that netpot type thing:

I also remembered I had the perfect pot for the Leda Uno so that got repotted too (quite violently). The new pot is double the volume. I think roughly a gallon or less.

In the last one you can just make out the TWxPD #1 which has been sprayed with CS for nearly a week now.

Here's the scrog shot - I'm thinking about flipping tomorrow:

Getting rid of those plants in pic #1 gave me a lot more room in the tent. These are basically my mums now. PK on the left. 4 x TWxPD in the smaller green pots.

I totally fixed that wiry purple stem problem in the big plants! I think phosphorous was getting locked out from too high ph. That's probably been my problem with these nutes ever since I've been indoors! I had earlier decided the P had dropped out of solution in the bottles! So hopefully this means I don't need new nutes after all. Stoked if so

Also, I've been adding Herbal Extract to hydro nutes. It seems to work and can even be used as ph down - it stops the runoff from stinking and seems to give a healthy glow to the plants. I also started mixing the water - half dechlorinated tap, and half rainwater. Just in case of cal/mag type problems. I've ceased all h2o2 for a while now and inoculated with BioBugs aerated tea and adding all the usual shit on some occasions - molasses, liquid kelp. I did one or two foliar sprays with HE and Kelp.

Oh yeah and that big TWx in the net pot had just had diatomaceous earth applied if you're wondering. It disappears after I water. Peace.

Nice update scrubs. Damn you aussies and the outdoor growing season :D Here on the other side of the planet (60 degree northern latidude) there's not much chance to flower other than autoflowers outside, unless you have heated greenhouse. It's like 24 hour light from middle of may to july. Great for veg thou..

Btw, I've visited Oz once, was on the east coastline, Brisbane and that tourist place, Cairns.

Oh good stuff! I'm reppin' the east coast  Ya know, I scope out all techniques available, just in case I end up on the other side of the world one day after smoking too much trainwreck. I would be doing light dep in a situation like you mentioned, in a greenhouse or variation of such, hehe.

The really weird thing about this place which I believe is different from most of the world, is that we have 2 long & short days per year. Like, instead of one big cycle over a year, there are two, kind of. I didn't say I understand it or anything but yeah, it's trippy. :)

Been lurking your threads for awhile :3
Love em btw! Just had a question about coco.
Do you use a soil mix? Or just straight coco? I was thinking about making the switch...

hgl, thanks a lot for checking it out! And I will :)

BottledCat, same goes to you! I used an organic soil/coco type mix last run, and we all saw how that ended up, lol : Organics is just too complicated and multi-faceted for someone of my mental state and lack of ingredients. So now I'm back to straight coco with hydro nutes, never lets me down. I talk a lot about adding this or that organic stuff but it's a minor part in the movie really. It's essentially a chem hydro grow with a few organic type additives sometimes.

Boom, this morning I reset the timer so April 1st is Day 1 of 12/12! :jump:

Can you smell what the scrub is cooking?

....no you can't because I got 2 carbon filters up in this beezy! :D :biglaugh: Have a great day!

hello all, i like all of these photos, but i had a question if it isn't a problem. i didn't really know where to ask this but seeing as the question was for scrubninja i thought i should ask in a thread of his.... i saw this photo below in a thread about cfl lights and have tried to look around for anything like it but haven't been able to find anything. i was just wondering if you made it yourself or whether you might be able to point me to where i might find something similar ? thanks anyway.

Cheerz ppl :)

Gluten, they sell those in hydro stores here and also common online like ebay hydro stores and aquarium stores. Try searching for keywords like 4x55w or 220w. Frankly, I would just buy 55w kits or ballasts however you can and build them. The reflector is nothing special and only gets in the way. I'm chucking mine after this grow because it blocks light from the tallest buds at the front and rear.

Also see here: http://www.ahsupply.com/36-55w.htm

A pleasure. It's worth the effort in tracking some down for sure. I've never heard of a dissatisfied pl-l user. The hood cost me $200, ounces here cost $280 and up, and I grew 4.25oz of quality stuff on the first run alone :)

Lets say I had gone with CFLs; A 48w costs around 30 bucks by now I would say. A 23w is around $5. Bases for the cfl's are around $5 each.

So, 4 of the 48w, and one of the 23w, and 5 bases, plus $10 for an extension cord for wire comes out at $160. Lets say 2 hours of my time @ a bargain $20/hour to wire them up and make reflectors - comes out at $200. Not to mention that 220w pl-l is now far cheaper than the $200 I paid second hand. So there you have it...

picture.php

PLL is cheaper than CFL.

Here is the TWx I'm spraying with CS for a week now, the 10,000k runs directly over this and the Leda Uno:

I'm making a fresh batch of CS right now. Stay toasted :tiphat:

Hey bud, i wanted to say thanks for turning me onto 2g11. I hate cfl's inefficiencies due to the spiral. You cant beat the penetration that the Pl-l's provide not to mention even coverage. I easily think the cost is worth it even for a micro grower. Considering how many spiral cfls you'd need to gain the same coverage. Not to mention that its easier for me to keep them cool in higher wattages than the spiral. Its nice keeping the ballast out of the room also which is what originally sparked my interest.

I'm thinking about writing a thread on why pl-l's are superior to spirals but looking for some factual info, not my opinions or calculations. The cost is defiently negliglibe. I just spent $80 on 6 pl-l bulbs 6 sockets and clips and a workhorse 5 ballast. I think the costs would be might close if you were starting with nothing. but if your a micro grower at least the Pl-l's stay out of the way. and have much less restrike than spirals.

I wonder which wins: new t5s or pl-l? I'm no expert when it comes to fluoro, but those two sound the sexiest options.

i dont know, but some of those T5's putout an awsome SPD. Not to mention the ability for HO or VHO. I think they each have their place though, PL-L's are better for those with limited space the T5's for a larger area..

U

I was thinking about those small t5s, they're quite short and you could fit many into small space. 14-20 something watts a piece or so.

Way to go BB88! The force is strong in this one :smoke:

CFLs have terrible power factor generally .5 to .6 for consumer bulbs. Pl-l is >.98

There is an old article here (from OG I believe) goes into detail.

^I would mention that for sure too. It's important for CFL heads to realize that they are not energy-saving a damn thing with CFLs. A cfl will tell you it's 100 watts, but it's like 23w, and the really messed up bit is that neither of those are right. It's drawing more like 35+w probably. I don't trust anything from a CFL manufacturer after they lied to me twice about the wattage and had the nerve to call themselves energy savers or energy efficient. Put simply, even a t-8 is more efficient than a cfl. Then you have t-5 and pl-l. Seriously, we're already kicking shit uphill by growing with fluoros, so why would anyone then go and get the least efficient form of fluoro apart from cold cathodes? Cost & Ease has always been held up as the reason for growing with CFL but as we can see, that is not true. CFLs lose on Cost, Ease, AND Performance. :tiphat:

To break down the power factor thing a little: you have a 24wcfl and a 24w pll like the following (the pl-l was a very old bulb so don't judge on brightness)

So the PLL is putting out more lumens, that's just a given. But the power factor discussed above means that the pll is drawing like 25w or so (no calculators were used in the making of this post) whereas the 24w CFL, as we touched on earlier with the 23w CFL, is drawing something roughly like 35. So just for that one measly 24w of light, there is an absolutely unnecessary 10w or so of energy banging around and pretty good chance it will show itself as heat.

Oh also, about the high output t5s, I believe they're just overdriven? This can be done with pl too (see Aeroheads last pc case)

I have one of those 1ft t-5s, it's 8w and cute as a button :)

Dunno what kelvin that purple aquarium light is but I'm guessing it's 14,000k.
