Nomaad Presents- Greenhouse:2010

Im in love.. nomaad where'd you order your dome and cover!? I only found one site to buy them and they are wood. Man you don't know how happy you made me. I love geodesic domes but they are a pain in the ass to make, i built this one and forever am assured I don't want to build a bigger one

what size conduit are your pipes, 3/4"? That cover is just AWESOME!

sorry for all the questions lol, but stumbling across a legit dome like yours.... ahhh.....

G+P: I did not read your whole post. The galvanized tubing is about 3/4"... I will look into the specs later, but its the standard dome frame on Pacificdomes.com... they have 3 thicknesses and mine is the lowest. When climbing, you want to stay away from the centers of the struts.

OK... I have run into an issue, but the solution is work that would have had to be done down the line anyway...

I rigged 5 shoplights with two T8's... Not only do I feel this will be sufficient for the supplemental lighting, but its a serious light pollution problem... The glow can be seen throughout the neighborhood...especially with the trees still bare. I am going to have to rig the light dep system now, and run the sup light under air raid conditions. Ha. PITA! but as somebody else said in one of the threads I am active in, that's farmin'.

That pic is so cool!! im tempted to add that to my desktop collage. That thing really glows. Did you have to email the company about pricing? I couldnt find anything about that online. When I get one I'm definitely gonna add one of their floating beds so I can chill with the girls

Thanks for the response

Well, I just caught up. Read the whole outdoor and then here I am. Took 3 nights to get here. Just wanted to say thanks. It has been very inspirational to follow your journey. This thread has had a big impact on me. I have a place in Maine that has land and an incredible indoor grow facility that I used to raise shiitake mushrooms in on a commercial scale. Maine is about to bust open for business as they passed med laws this past fall. Because of your story I am seriously considering taking the whole place out of mothballs and blowing it up for a fullscale legal grow when the rules take effect this Spring. Thanks for helping to expand my vision past a hard fought guerrilla grow to the possibility of a civilised front yard business endeavor. Congrats on babies. Other peoples babies are great. I'm a grampy myself and I like it. Good luck on your grows.

ronbo: welcome. I'm glad you got something from all this. its been so much fun for me thus far... pretty psyched for this year. east coast growing has an appeal for me. can't wait to see the thread.

So... I ix-nayed the solar exhaust fan that came with the dome. The CFM is just not up to kind of air exchange I am looking for... I bought a 10" vortex and will use the stove adapter kit that I ordered... looks like I am going to need another one to vent out the Modine heater I am going to get. I tried rocking a 30-80,000 BTU propane heater like this one:

The GH started to warm up very fast, but the fumes were unbearable. I could suck it out with the new exhaust fan, but I'd be sucking the heat right along with it. Lows are supposed to be in the low 40's as far as the eye (of accuweather.com) can see.

I also found these great inexpensive circulating fans that sort of clip right into the dome frame wherever I want to put them. I'll take pics of those touches tomorrow.

hey nomaad. Nice heater! that looks pricey. do you have room in the gh for four or five 55 gallon drums? if so you should put them in there on the north part of the gh and fill them with water. It will retain heat and maintain the temps in the gh

so i checked out the place it was nice but it needs a fence!! Still looking as well but submitted an app for this place. It has a kinda small yard so i might be doing sea of green outdoor style...more like ocean of green!!!!! hahah watch out for the wave.........

its a south facing hill too so i will have to to a terraced garden, but if done right i could pull off something.......ill let you know

I have been thinking about barrels of water all morning! funny you should post that. I would have to go out and get the barrels one by one... I am going to try and figure out a way to use the heater I have... maybe a speed contoller for my fan... I can leave it running all night at a low speed. Gotta get plants in there in the next 48 hours.

if I could go out and buy as modine heater somewhere today, I would.

Hey nomad hows the heat situation comin along? I just got the greenhouse brochure in my email and it says their covers are UV resistant. Does that mean it blocks some of the UV light coming through to the plants? I was going to email them back and ask, but I'd rather post it here. If you don't know then i will email them lol

the material has 81% light transmission.

having a bad day. been trying to run down a heater that will work... no luck.. but some people on the other end of phonecalls, had me running to ukiah like the sky had opened up and presented me with an immediate solution. no such luck. Most online sources say 1-2 week lead time on Modine heaters!!

on top of that, my internet went down. thankfully I can tether my phone, but I wasted an hour on the horn with my ISP...

Today was a festival of wasted time... but I made it home just in time for my delivery from Sonoma Compost... I've got 8 yards of the good shit out there and in the morning I'll get the peat, perlite and EWC... now all I have to do is heat the greenie... i'm working a couple of angles.

Need a top vented greenhouse heater? Need one right now in Northern Cali? Grainger Industrial Supply. Don't expect to pay internet prices, but you can get what you need. My heater will be in the north bay on Monday. Farmtek could have had one here by the following monday for $200 cheaper.

I wound up ordering a radiant front console heater that can be set on the ground and vented up. A week late. I'll live. The Momma's need to be repotted desperately. The # 7 and #10 pots are needing water every day... sure sign that they are rootbound. Guess they have to spend the weekend in too-tight jeans. I will feed them B's with each feeding this weekend to raise their shock tolerance.

A note about soil... I am pretty sure that I have identified a calcium defficiency in Roots Organics soil. Plants potted in Roots show a classic calcium defficiency for 3-4 days when plants potted in Black Gold have not presented the same defficiency.

So far, Black Gold vs. Nomaad mix (in a 4 plant, 2 strain comparison which is, by no means, good science) look about the same. I'll know more in the greenhouse when I run the big mommas in both soild and also run a bunch of Blue Dream that are filling out #2's and will be repotted to #10 smarties in the GH on Monday... For that mix I will be ammending with age old grow dry and EWC.

I have some new genetics coming into the garden today. Very excited for one cut in particular. The J1. I am not prepared to share what I know about her origins... its still fuzzy... but the smoke is amazing and the demand is high in certain quarters.
