I'm no expert, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. I'd would be cool to do a side by side using this method v/ soil using your earth juice and see how well they do.

I use to use that in my tank and when i changes out water that water went onto my back yard bertha every year. The bitches always got huge with just that.

That was soil just turned in a very fertile yard and I got 2lb plants 14 feet plus tall.

tin-I've used Ed Rosenthals Zero Tolerance before and it worked great! It has a nice smell too. Be sure to pull your light up a bit before you spray and be sure to spray everything. Those little bastards will hide from you, but keep at 'em and kill all of them. I followed bottle instructions and it worked great. Good luck man....go get 'em!

hey dub, you rock! you too J6p! ph issues again! build up. ever hear of clearex? what can ya tell me about it? is it better than the flush thing?

@dank- I hear ya man, just go for it and see where it takes you. I'd order or go pick up a small amount of 3 part just as a back up. You should be good if things go a little down hill.
@tin-thanks! What amount/frequency are you feeding at? Whats container size? I personally don't use clearex...I just use plain water the last week of ripening. My plants dont taste bad at all. Now I may be way off here, and I hope to be corrected if I'm wrong, but the point of flushing is to leach out the ferts from within the plant and the medium. If you water with only plain water, the plant is still getting their moisture, but the water as it flows through the medium and in to the mini-resevoir, it pushes out the old nutrient. I'm not so sure we who use a hempy bucket need to use clearex, I haven't and have yet to see a need. Hope this helps.

you are right dubwise, that is the point of flushing, get out any sort of chemicals in the plant. you basically want to see the plant "eating" itself, using it's own nutrients to survive. That way you are getting a much more healthy and delicious tasting nugget. I know I've had girls flush for 2 weeks and still show no sign of weakness, so I imagine that vermiculite especially is holding a lot of nutes to use.

Just my two cents, but I find it's good to flush on occasion just to keep things proper :D

Salt deposits can build up in your rez and cause lockout problems, especially if the rez dries out between waterings. So periodic flushing is a good practice. I do it every week or so, quick and easy.

Easy way: Put the hempy bucket inside of another, larger bucket filled with water, soak for about 20 minutes, then lift the hempy bucket out of the larger water bucket, let it drain, top feed, all done.

this is awsome! i never knew about the dry rez causin build up. i gotta try flushin like you recommend,j6p. i have let watering go for up to 4 days with no problems to the plants other than a little wilting. but now i know why i may be getting so much build up as i let them dry somewhat more than i should. every grow gets better cuz of the stuff i learn here. thanx,j6p.......tinman

I am doing a micro hempy grow, and I have a quick question.

I've heard people say that If you go with a bucket smaller than 3 gallons, you should adjust how high the drain hole is. I am doing a coffee can sized grow.

should I make the drain hole higher than 2 inches, or lower?

Forgive my stupid newbie question, but I could imagine it either way. With a smaller bucket you might want to make your rez deeper so it doesn't dry out too quickly. Or you might want to make it shallower to properly scale it down. What do you guys think?

I'll just give you my opinion because I do a lot of micro hempy grows when doing testing. I use 32 oz gatorade bottles with the top cut off and I have put the hole anywhere between 1" and 3" above the bottom. Some of the ones with higher up holes just don't tend to dry out as quickly. But on the other hand I worry that I may be drowning the roots because the res is too big.

Either way, I've seen no real ill effects from that small difference in drainage hole height. All plants still seem to thrive under this system.

Goodluck,

Yeah man, when my little babies start out, the drain whole is only about an inch from the bottom...and when they go into bigger containers the drain hole is 2". I've just pulled down one of my plants which was in a 15 gallon container and the plant was vegged for about 4 months. The plants rootball took up about half of the containers space, I used multiple drain holes all at the same height and it worked out really well. I've a 2nd plant in a similar container which I'm going to veg out for another 6 weeks (total of 6 months in veg) I don't think she'll get root bound..what do you guys think?

IMO, I think you will be fine. I've flowered out mothers in a 1 gallon hempy that were vegging for ages and they turned out alright.

I think there is probably some merit to what dalaihempy said a while back about his plants never getting rootbound.

But hey, that plant will tell you if she is pissed or not, so you'll know :D

I understand what dalai says and I don't dispute it...what I'm wondering is...how long would I have to veg her to fill that container up with roots?

Thanks for the response! I started my gallon jug hempy with the hole 2 inches from the bottom, so I guess I'll just leave it there. My plant seems to doing very well lately, so why mess with success?
