My OBBT Bucket Build

I'm presently constructing a cab that will have a flowering area that 2'x3'and 48" tall.

That's close to my space considerations Pearlmae. It can certainly be done. I can provide more details about my micro-build if you're interested.

Having done hydro in this micro-room, I would strongly encourage you to consider this method.

Here ya go Rip. Just for you.

The big Purple Diesel Cola is 16". All of the smaller NL#5 colas are 9":

Not sure how much longer. Depends on the Trichs clouding up. Not going for amber. I like the lighter, less narcotic buzz. So maybe by the end of the month. 9-10 weeks?

rrog, Thanks for the input, I'm definitly sold on the method. Has anyone used square buckets? I happen to have a few of them. I asked about heat in the bucket, because basically what is taking place is composting. The bacteria's breaking down the organic material to usable nutrients if the temps go to high the bacterial activity will cease because they are cooked and you don't want that to happen.:smokey:

I will take a probe later and check. Easy to do. I have a large airpump (950GPH) running the three pails. The air pump runs are 95F to 102F so the air going to the bucket is warmed already. I believe there is value with warmed root temperature. I looked into that some time ago. I could be wrong, but that's my understanding.

The obvious risk of elevated temps is anaerobic bacteria. Fortunately the (anaerobic) LactoB and aerobes really defend their turf. That was always the perspective of LadyL and DrunkenM. I've since read this elsewhere. The environment is on their side with all that fresh airflow.

Not thinking there's a decompositional heat issue, but again, I'll measure today.

I've used and fed beneficial microbes even in my chem res that I specifically heated to 75F. Never ever even once had any res funk. I've done side by side water tests. One with microbes and molasses and the other with straight nute solution. RO water and bubblers were added. After 3-4 days the non-biotic res stunk. I was able to keep the inoculated pail odor free for well over a week. I assume that the molasses ran out as a food supply.

Square buckets are better than round, in my opinion. Closer fit together and efficient.

Sorry for the long ramble.

Thanks guys.

I'm pretty pleased. ColoMC thanks again for your thoughts on coco back when. Really opened my eyes and understanding.

Right on. Glad to have been of help.

Thanks for ironing out all the bugs with OBBTs. Once you´ve got your system dialed in I´m gonna copy it.

Thanks for the pic's Rrog,

Beautiful, nice job. You can relax and enjoy the next couple a wks. It hard to Ef them up at this point.

I'm always trying to catch up the veggers to be ready for flower.

I removed the Jack Herer from the flower room, 75 days. Gonna leave it in the dim of the garage for a couple, then chop and trim.

I'll post ya up a pic directly.

GROW ON,

hola peoples. :smokeit:

@rrog, that is a beautiful looking scrog. Huge buds. Does your air pump heat the air for you or are you doing that? and are you noticing any effect on ambient temperatures?

@ripvanweed, i like your candy and your view. How was the change going to the smaller square pots? any changes from the bigger tubs? and I'm sorry if you posted this already but what the story with the White Russian? Was it topped? how long in veg? that thing is beast.

general question for whom ever, if i plan on running very short veg time, should i drastically change the ratios of the OBBT to fit this. reducing N specifically.

Thanks for the insight and gorgeous examples of greatness.:watchplant:

Quick temp update: I was unable to get a straight temp probe down into the medium. I'll find that probe today. So last night I taped a different probe to the outside of the pail and covered with a heavy towel.

70F. Same as the ambient temp. I'm thinking there's not enough mass to get to that critical composting point where the temp increases dramatically.

Man, that is a long flower period, isn't it? Whew! I must look into the properties of the JH. People who use it really love it, it seems.

Well, I've decided to chop this weekend. 63 days of flower. Trichs just starting to cloud up, browning of hairs, etc. I believe I could keep going for a couple weeks more but not looking for 150 proof rum.

Give me a couple of weeks and I'll be by. I've been watching anxiously. That invite to all the IC members is still open right??
Looking good ...

This is right off the plant un-trimmed bud from one NL#5 in a micro-grow SCROG

IMG_1592.jpg

Currently all buds separated by:

  • Big colas with dark color
  • Smaller spindly colas with some dark on top, and the rest light from lack of light in all that foliage
  • Popcorn buds.

I'm wondering if there should be a smoke difference between them. I assume so.

Scissor hash was sure fun.

Without a doubt this is a bigger single-plant haul than my last chem grow. That could be do to several things. Perhaps the plant phenotype. IN any event, I'll never ever grow chem again. I'll get a couple of pics of the buds with a soda can or such for size perspective.

Way to go Rrog,

I been waiting to hear of your harvest.

Scissor hash yummm

I collect the stuff on a pin made sticky with QWISO....another asskicking byproduct of trimming your own grow!

Much Respect, Rrog

Well, this is just for my own recreational use. So my needs are small. If I store this right I won't be growing again for maybe a year.

Unless perhaps a particular variety inspires me for some reason.
