Hello 250w club! Just poking in here since I'm currently running a 250w ikea grow cab and I'm wondering what is the max height you want to raise your lights? The cab is about 6' tall so I have plenty of height, was just wondering what is the highest you want to raise before the lumens drop off and you're doing more harm than good? Thank you for any assistance

Stay as low as you can without raising temps too high...

If you find you have to have your light far away to keep heat down, you might consider buying a decent intake fan & intake filter
I had that problem, getting your light closer is worth it, trust me

Im a first timer dude, so don't worry, with a 250w you'll get there easily ;)

When i started i had the humble outlook of not expecting to really get anything outofit, just experiment, but trust me, if you get setup properly youll be very sucessfull!

Thanks for the encouragement my man...I'm actually running my 250 in a cooltube and I have a pretty good sized exhaust fan venting the whole cab so temps aren't really an issue, it's more that I want BIG plants like I see everyone having in here, like yours for instance. Those girls look like they're at least 3' tall and that's what I want. This is actually my second run in this cab and the last time I didn't raise the lights and had them about 12" away from the plants and they eventually grew into the cooltube and just stopped getting taller, so I want to raise it up and get those long big buds like everyone has. The buds from the first time were like as long as your index finger maybe which was cool but I want some that are like the size of a coke bottle or bigger. Do you think pot size and nutrients have anything to do with it Chronic? I am using generic store soil with FF BB and GB nutrients. And mollassess

As i said im a first timer so not too sure about all this, i heard that you dont need pots bigger than 11ltrs, any bigger does not increase yeild, if anything you'll just have to water more than with bigger pots.

That plant is 95cm so not that huge really and that central bud is smaller than the size of a small evian bottle, its not that huge
(but it was only 6 weeks in that pic, they swell alot form there supposedly)

If you want those HUGE buds you might wanna think about hydro, i only grow for quality not quantity...

Most definitely it's about the quality, if I was doing this for yields I would have quit a while ago  Nothing wrong with wanting to get as much as you can though. I might do a hydro grow one day but for now I'm going to be a soil guy until I learn how to do it right. Pretty sure I'm doing something wrong with my soil mix or feed schedule or something my girls never get bigger than 24 cm tall and don't produce much in terms of weight. I was growing in 3 liter clay pots but not anymore well that's not true my OHxSk#1 is in one of those but my two WW are in 11 liter plastic pots now. Hoping to get much bigger yields now

Id say the swicth to 11ltr is def gonna help you out, my mate grew in small pots and got small plants/yeilds

I have kept my 250 (with a glass shield) as close as 8" to the top of the plants.

I like the idea of a glass sheild, i might need to do that in summer as i wouldn't be able to fit a cooltube in my current tent, plus a cooltube would mean running yet another fan!

How many degress do you drop using a glass sheild?
Id love to see a pic of your setup?

If i dont setup something to bring heat down i think im just gonna do one grow per year during winter time...

Ok that is more of what I was looking for. So as they continue to stretch just make sure an keep the bulb about 8" away and that should be good. That will give the room for the buds to grow up and not be touching the cool tube and still be able to get big. This is exactly what I wanted to know thanks

Once I had a small fan set up where it blew the heat from the lamp into the canopy and scorched the tops a bit. Watch for that as well.

I'm a new grower. Going to be ordering all my supplies in week or so. After. Going thru this thread I have decided to go with the 250watt hps cooltube. I plann on buying a Growlab 60 (gl60) which is 2'×2'×5'3". I think that the 250w would be a good light to go with for this limited space. I am interested in scrog for optimal light penetration although I'm not quite sure gow to build the screen if any one could post a link on how to bulid this it would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. I haven't decided what strains to go with but looking into have a total of 4 plants. Thinking 1 afhgan kush 1 nyc diesel and and maybe 2 master kush all seeds are feminized. I will be using a dwc with so advanced nutes. What are some high yield strains using scrog. I have a lot of question. If anyone can message me who would be willing to help. I just have a few simple question nothing to noobish I've done all my homework I just want to know about combining some techniques such as lst and supercropping with the scrog method.
