CalBear4Life's Grow Diary (Flood/Drain: OG Kush and ChemDawg D)

I guess everyone seems to have differing opinions about which products to use. I think I may go with something like Azatrol or Avid. I need to kill these fucking spider mites quick before they cause more damage. I really don't care if it is organic as long as it is biodegradable before I smoke the stuff. I will let you know what I decide. Time to head to the hydro store again...FML. :puppydoge

Spider Mite Problems Uggghhhh!

Just got back from the hydro store. Man I love those guys, very helpful!. Anyways, I picked up the usual suspects on their advice, Neem Oil and Pyrethrin (something called Take Down Spray). I told them about my conditions and they helped me figure out a plan for eradication. Since my infestation is not terrible, I am going to try and spray with this stuff first, before stepping up to further treatments like foggers etc. The guy at the hydro store told me to spray around once per 7 days and the adults will die off immediately, then the eggs that hatch into juveniles will be killed before they have a chance to reproduce (he said it would be around once per 10 days reproduction). This sounds similar to what many have said on here. Having clipped one of the bad leaves, I can now see that there is a lot of eggs underneath there and it is starting to get to my other plants. I assume that I am supposed to feed a half hour before spraying and spray right before the lights turn off...any further advice guys? I've heard of people spraying once every 2 or so days also, what do you think?

Even though it sucks, I will post some pick of the little buggers in my album tonight

Fed the babies 30 minutes before I sprayed and then turned off the lights. Hopefully this will get rid of those little fuckers!

These where the bastards I had last year. They used neem oil like KY jelly. I made 5 gallon buckets full of the solution and then tip the plants upside down till all parts where covered. Did it 3 times a week for 3 weeks and they still wouldn't die. Don't want to scare you just wanted to share my battle with them and the neem.

But I know how scary some of those other products are to use. If you read the labels on them it gets even scarier yet so do use precations if you do decide to go that route. A mask or resporator gloves and saftey glasses are highly recommended.

Wow you must have bred your own serious spider mite. Neem usually works for me personally, but sometimes it definitely can get outta hand for neem to handle. Heat will perpetuate the problem so watch out for heat. Also they make things you can feed that are systemic i think Azamax is one that will handles mites. I do have one plant that is full of mites but it is in a tent on its own right now so i will have to bomb that tent when its done in like 2 weeks. Not really trying to kill anything in the big room.

All good...I'm already scared about these little buggers. Do they fall off when their dead? or just stay there because I can still see some that aren't moving.

Yup some of em will still be on the leaves. Watch the new growth close to see of there's any new bite marks.

I got them when I recived some clones so they might (no pun intended) have already formed a immunity to neem. I wish you much luck with your mites to. Temps where low 80's and low humidity too. Nice room BTW.

I picked up these clones from a source that I never used before...the spider mites could of been there to start, or from my dogs, or from me. Sucks ass!!! Not a religious man, but definitely praying that these babies aren't as immune as yours were Guyute

Yea it happens and it something every decent grower needss to figure out how to deal with in their own setup and environments. Sometimes neem doesnt work so you have to know how to deal with it and honestly you should start a normally routine when your in veg. Like first week you get them maybe start neeming them to kind of give them a protective coating. Then maybe folair feed with somethig vegetative as a boost. Just ot learn a few new techniques and wont take too much money or time. Keep it up and stay ontop of it and it will be gone in no time. As long as your new growth is looking good your fine.

Day 17

Good morning! I have been stressing pretty hard about spider mites and have hit them hard to start. I sprayed them with a tobacco tea recipe on 2/2, then with a neem/pyrenthrin mix on 2/3, and used some tape to pull off remaining bodies and I put a No Pest Strip in the room yesterday. I am going to alternate treatments of tobacco tea and neem/pyrenthrin mix every 2-3 days for about 2 weeks. It seems like all of them are dead now as none of the ones I can see are moving, but I am going to get the next generation as soon as it hatches...IT'S TIME TO DIE MOFOS!

As you can see from the pictures I posted, this seems to have been my problem for a little bit now. The ladies are loving life without being eaten alive and some of he worst looking plants are starting to get some real growth...check out my album. Thanks for the help guys and Cheers!!!! :smokeit:

So after buying a Radioshack 60x-100x microscope and trying to look at these guys (not so easy I guess haha), I realized two things.

1. None of these guys are moving so I'm thinking that one of my solutions is working.

2. I think I have the red spider mites. All of the adults that I can see look to be more of a deep-brownish red color.

I haven't seen much on red spider mites...is there any difference in treatment? Are they easier to get rid of than the two-spotted ones? I am going to keep looking to make sure that I am right.

Edit: Was able to somehow snap a picture through the microscope. I think this is proof that I have the red ones...what do you think?

AzMax has the same ingredients as Azatrol.

Day 19
1250 ppm

Hello people! Everything seems to be going pretty good. There still seems to be the leftovers of the mite problem that I had...I have been checking the leaves daily and everyday there seems to be just a few adults on the leaves. These adults all seem to be dead as none of them are movig when I poke and prod at them (probably being killed by the NO PEST strip).I am going to continue my regimen until the whole population has been eradicated.

Other than that the growth seems to be going pretty well for the most part. A couple of the center plants seem to be lagging behind a little bit, but hopefully they will catch up soon. I am not going to be able to post any pics for the next 5 days or so because the old lady took the camera on vacation. I changed out my rez two days ago and I am going to top off to full strength tonight (should be about 1600 ppm). I really feel like I am close to having some healthy plants...do you guys have any advice? Any heads up would be great guys!

Cheers! :smokey:

I would love to see pics if you have any.

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=157509

I have various cuts in these pics but the Chemdawg-D are in the middle look at the updated pics , i have my ppm levels alot lower than yours however im growing in a mix of hydro and ocean forest soil . My ppm is now at 1000 on the 14day of flowering but im bumping them up to 1250 next watering  1600 IMO may be a bit much i would go no higher than 1300 and see if they show signs of any nute burn

I just sprayed the ladies with the neem/pyrenthrin mix again and shut off the lights for the day. I think the spider mites were causing a lot of my stunted growth issues, as most of the plants are finally starting to grow exponentially. I will update tomorrow, thanks guys!

Cheers!

I will definitely take this into mind and work them up to the most efficient ppm. I am currently at 1250 ppm and they seem to be fine so I think I am going to wait until they are ready for more!

Day 22
5.7 ph 1275 ppm

Good morning!

My ladies seem to be doing great, the growth rates are amazing! All of the OG Kushes are now shading out the rockwool completely and the Chems are almost there. I see absolutely no signs of spidermites, but I am going to continue my treatments in order to makes sure. I think I was overnuting the Chems for the first week because they weren't taking off as much as the OG's. Well I am on track now! I pruned under the canopy on the OG's yesterday because the undergrowth is starting to overdo the surrounding plants. The number one OG is about 18" and is about 4" taller than the rest of the OG's. I am going to buy some stakes in order to keep them in there own area. I will begin posting pictures again tomorrow when my woman comes back off vacation.

Question: How tall do I want to veg these things? I've heard that they grow about twice as high when flowering so what do you think? 24"? 36"?

Thanks guys and CHEERS!!! :dance013:

I waited till mine were 20-24 inches tall and now im at over 4 ft on the 3rd week on flowering on my OG kush and the the other chemadawg-d 's are at 36 inches , My OG strain is SFV 818 OG is a 50/50 hybrid so it stretches alot due to the sativa in her, What exact strain of OG are you doing ?

I wish I knew the exact pheno, but I am totally unsure. I bought off a guy on craigslist, so I am not totally sure if they are even OG's. I have talked to several other people about the guy I bought off and they have all said that he is trustworthy for clones so we will see. Take a look at my album. Can you tell at all which pheno it is? Does it at least look like OG's?
