ALSO, i dont know about now, but i didnt get reimbursed for fuel and maintenance for the car....id factor that in at double digit cents and a bit PER delivery at least.

jobs have their perks and accoutrements that make them "good" jobs. medical benefits, paid schooling et al. Driving is not one of those good jobs, so the OP is probably just pointing out, if youre feeling generous, give some more, because it doesnt pay well to begin with, (like many jobs).

But we could sit here all day bitching about all the bad jobs around. Though id like to think any job at hte moment is a good job...

We must also remember that America has a tipping culture whereas Europe does not. I don't know where you guys are from, but it might be the case.

On the subject of tips.... just so all you "boo hoo, crybaby" guys can see the other side of things:

I was a waiter for a long time. In many parts of the United States, the laws are written that anyone who earns tips as part of their wages does not need to be paid minimum wage. When I was first starting out, a waiter at a restaurant in that state earned $2.13 an hour. A few years back, the federal government raised minimum wage up to $6.75 an hour for everybody except tipped employees. Minimum wage for tipped employees is $2.33/hour. And then you have to report your tips (or face audits) and you have to pay taxes on the money you earn from those tips.

So if you can't afford to tip 15% to 20% - stick to fast food restaurants that don't accept tips. Their employees are being paid at least minimum wage. If you frequent businesses where tipping is customary (i.e. restaurants, bars, valet parking) then you really ought to tip. Just think of it as part of the cost of that meal. I mean, the restaurant COULD put the cost of paying the employee into the cost of your meal, but then you might see the higher prices and think twice. The business owners keep their costs low by paying their employees the minimum. The employee is serving you basically on faith in humanity. If you say "fuck you, get a better job" then he is basically working for free. (The taxes will eat that 2.33 an hour.) My weekly paychecks were about 10 bucks. Or they'd be statements that said "this is not a check" because my hourly wages didn't exceed my taxable earnings.

If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford sit down restaurants, drinks at the pub, catered food, taxi rides or valet parking. So go to the grocery store, buy some food and beer, cook it, drink it, eat it and the park your own car and no waiter or driver will ever think less of you.

ya $5 minimum is pretty standard where I am from but a $60 bill should equal $9 tip ($10 if it were me) Am I wrong? I suppose drivers get it the worst in the tipping world because you can always close the door in their face. And yes always tip at the coffee shop but dont go to starbucks lol.

I can't believe the nerve of some people to bitch you out. If someone delivers something for you, it is a basic courtesy to tip a certain percentage. What people do in India is of no concern to this conversation because I DARE you to go to an Indian or African restaurant HERE and be served by Indians/Africans and don't leave a tip. You will either be insulted, told not to come back or both. It's just plain RUDE to not tip an it's inexcusable. If you can't afford it, stay your broke-ass home or cook for yourself. The sense of entitlement of some people is unbelievable.

you know what

people who didn't tip, or tipped very shitty

alot of them I COULD TELL THAT THEY FELT BAD, and that they knew that they we're being cheap

others we're just poor

that's part of delivering... there are people like that..

just learn to deal with it my friend or get another job

and like I stated... I was in a bad mood when I wrote that
didn't mean to be too agressive about it sorry

+ the guy said he has amazing herb, cmon

lol

if you got the money to have food delivered to you then you have the money to tip.

The responses of, " if you don't make enough money change jobs" are fucking ridiculous. Don't order in if you won't tip, dicks.

i do understand where you were coming from brother. i was just kidding, my humor is dry and bland. sorry.

i've done plenty of mission work outside the U.S. From Romania to Africa. Oh and that lovely place Iraq. and realize that we have it uber f&cking good!
looking at it from a broader spectrum, yes it seems silly and friggin retarded of me to bitch. unfortunately though, I am a spoiled American. my apologies.

WOW!!! alotta strong feelings on this issue.

had being been a delivery driver For a living i can attest to shitty tips. it'll erk ya like non other, especially the guy who ordered 40 wings a large 3 topping pizza and a 2 liter.. hands you 40 bucks and expects you to give him the 39 cents left on the total!!! wow you want me to count out fucking pennies to you???!!!

when i delivered i never even carried change besides a few quarters in my pocket, most people dont expect silver change back, and if you do, well then you're an asshole IMO.

ive had some one pay me $30 in nickels and dimes!!! im not even sure if they tipped or if it was even correct cuz after fucking up counting it twice before i got past 10 dollars i said fuck it.. i had other deliveries to get to.

alotta the ass holes are made up for the good guys out there..
i was tipped a $50 one time on new years eve!!! i couldnt believe it.. even asked if the dude was sure about it.. he said yeah but you better get out quick b4 i change my mind!!lol!! good guy...

one more story.. i had 12 xtra large pizzas to deliver to a convention at a hotel. took me 3 trips from my car, when i got there, it was all COPS. non of which offered to help me with the door. complete ass holes as a sat there with a smile waiting for my check..
they bill was over 200 dollars if i remember correctly.. guy wrote me a check for the exact amount.

I am not a delivery person nor have I ever had a job that was for tips. This is about being decent and doing the right thing. If you can't afford to tip, don't use the service.

It should be considered mandatory to tip decent
The level and quality of most service type jobs has hit all time low - gum chewing, eye rolling, insolent lazy fuckers begrudgingly doing as little as they can for as much as they can get...

Cashiers can't count, cab drivers can't speak english or find addresses. Stock boys barge in front of customers, and service station attendants are now apparently "god" in a kiosk.

Bank tellers only do one transaction per visit - and forget about getting a receptionist to even look at you while they are telling their gf on the phone what an asshole the boyfriend was last nite.

Service??? Plse - self serve at best.

No friggin' way I'm dumpin' my hard earned coin into some little douches hand so he can go and smoke better weed than I can afford.

Want more $$ - rob a bank, or grow some weed, or just get the fuck outta whatever dead end job has ya beggin' for scraps.

I tip good service - real service. Driving a car is not service - it's a job you do when you can't do anything else.

Next time you get zero tip - instead of cursing the "cheapskate", try asking yourself, "What the fuck makes me so special people would want to hand me $$$".

If you have big tits, nice ass, and a cooter that doesn't smell like roadkill, you could swing around a brass pole and get all the tips ya want.

A guy??? Dance at a gay bar. More than tips waitin' there for you.

Obviously, a tip is to show appreciation of good service or timely delivery. No one expects you to reward poor customer service. And NEWSFLASH: Home delivery IS A SERVICE. It's not a product, is it?

i think tips should be calculated into the cost i dont like having to worry about how much to give and feel odd tipping when the service was really bad but i wasnt sure if it was bad enough to risk pissing them off and having them pee in my food. when you buy anything its all more expensive as it is when you eat at a restaraunt when you factor in 15 percent tax and 15 percent tip plus a huge markup on whatever you're buying its hardly worth eating out or ordering in anyways.

Some tip is better than no tip, would wait staff prefer no one go to their restaurant? Im all for leaving the standard 16% or whatever it is but I will not be leaving 20+% like I used to. This recession/depression will weed out all of the economic establishments that arent tough enough to weather the storm. You'll have to be a cunning business man to make it thru the next few years.

Nope - it's sometimes paid for, as a separate charge.

Tip your garbageman lately???

Mailman???

Doctor???

Didn't think so.

Doing your job doesn't qualify as service and tip.

Just sucks to be a grownup - get a new job...

And, quit the bitchin'...

Anyways....

When I was in highschool we used to order food from this pizza joint like 3 times a week. You could tell the delivery person was a hippy. Long hair, talked slow, always stoned etc.... When we didn't have more than a couple of bucks to give him for a tip we'd always invite him in for a few bong rips and send him on his way with a couple bottles of beer. He didn't mind so much about the $2 tips.

and SINCE those delivery drivers get low pay like other shitty jobs, they rely on the WILLING generosity of the public, it isnt mandatory, but it's damn well accepted. What if all the delivery drivers disappeared? WHO would bring your food? hypothetically you whom is reading this sentence is one to order food...

i duno where you live classy, must be guelph, but jesus nuke the population so you can personally teach the new boomers proper life skills, mannerisms and etiquette. Sounds brutal, and i thought the service around THESE parts was bad. that sounds awful...god in a kiosk, lmfao.

i personally cant afford it, or the tip id be willing to pay if i were to order food...lol:witch:

lots of people tip garbage men, mailmen, and the paperboy etc. i used to deliver papers and christmas time was tip time...id hazard a guess it's more a small town thing, nay a bustling metropolitan city.

HAHAHA...you muthafukkers are harsh.

Have a little experience in the service industry ;)

Driver's should be tipped, if you're having food delivered, it's the right thing to do...period.

Having worked front of house/open kitchen style joints I can tell you that we got tipped fairly often.

Honestly though,(Here comes the cheese-ball) my real reward was working hard to have satisfied, returning customers.

Doesn't pay the student loans, but it sure felt good and has served me well.

You cannot tip civil servants or doctors. It is illegal. But if I could or it was the way of the land, I would. Delivery people, waitstaff, bartenders, etc are all tip jobs. I tip these people because if they provide good service, it's a gratuity. I guess you just feel like people are supposed to do things for you.
