Once the legalization issues settle down, free-market competition will drive demand, and producers will shift to competing to grow the best quality for the best prices.

If I were a grower (of course, I'm not), I would focus on providing the cleanest, most potent, most enjoyable smoke one could buy. By ensuring top quality, I'm sure I'd be able to market the entire crop, probably on contract basis, to a medical dispensary or cooperative.

What's good for the medical use community is also good for the stoner community.

Guys like the OP describes would be left holding the bag, literally.

I have been outraged for months over the sorry state of the crap they call "medical marijuana" in Alabama. Vendors claim "it's da purp" or "it's medical weed," but can give no specifics as to strain.

Vendors, we medical users put your on notice:

Once MMJ is legalized, we will no longer pay you $100 per 28-gram so-called "ounce" bag (what happened to 32 grams in an oz?). We will no longer shell out $10/gram for crappy shit with a 3/10 buzz.

We will begin demanding different strains for specific uses, demanding a nice dry & cure, with a savory smoke, not that harsh, throat-burning, cat piss-smelling compressed schwag you think is worth $120/oz.

The emphasis will shift to quality AND CONSISTENT, TIMELY SERVICE. In other words, if a med patient rings you to arrange delivery in 48 hours, you'd better show instead of calling later, whining about "I got stoned & fell asleep & then we went to eat." Bullshit! And all the while I'm out of meds & in pain...

Medical patients deserve your top attention, as they will be your most consistent clients, day in & day out.

It seems WE are the ones on the front lines of the war for legalization. Maybe you were up late & didn't get out of bed...

We VOTE! We write letters to congressmen! We show up at meetings when we really feel to sick too leave the house!

I have nothing against recreational use of this god-given, harmless plant. I believe it should be enjoyed to the full by anyone who wishes to indulge.

However, the fight right now is on the medical use front & we could sure use the support of fellow non-medicinal tokers.

Never before have we gained such momentum. The time is now, based on public opinion.

PLEASE help us break thru the resistance to achieve legalization for medical purposes. You can always develop an infected toenail & request medical MJ for pain relief. (Just kidding, but seriously, it's that easy.)

As a patient with an incurable condition resulting in chronic pain, I AM BEGGING YOU, ALL TOKERS - find your local chapter of medical marijuana activists & join up!

You benefit yourself in the end!

Well Flying Goat let me enlighten you on the pot scene atleast when it was legal here for a couple of years and it has been medically legal here for 15+ years. Made zero difference on the quality !!!!!! No moldy shit ,but nothing to write home to mom about either. Elite weed will always be hard to find and pricey .So when you find it keep it if your a grower and baby it lol. Normally found in clone only strains .. atleast here ... They are turning some strains into seed but I havn't found anything as sweet as the clones yet.Most dealers give what they get and in the end are trying to make their bucks . peace out Headband707

Sorry I got off on a tangent in the above post. I feel very passionately about this issue & get carried away sometimes.

The point I was trying to make was - if there is no market for substandard, crappy weed, then dealers will either have to step up, or become affiliated with a quality grower.

What's the point of trying to sell moldy/crappy bud if people won't buy it? Answer: none.

You don't state your location, but believe you me, if that were MY locale & weed were legal for MMJ, even for a month, I would have made sure that it was written into law.

You had legal weed but failed to prevail. Why? Voter apathy. Nuff said.

We've gotta get the younger generation fired up & they'll help us push over the top.

Well we have 5 clubs here and although I truely love the ppl the run the clubs , It would be rare that I love their bud and it's not like at $9.00 and $10.00 a gram is cheap either .. When the clubs first open they have nice shit but then they start to go down hill. The compassion club is one of the worst here as they figure they have it all figured out and they really don't. I haven't had good weed from that club for over 5 years so that will tell you somthing. When you say anything to that club they say they leave it up to their growers.. ARE YOU SHITTING ME!!!!! LOL LOL!!! They are so freaked about losing their growers they won't say a word in other words lol lol.. fuck that shit .. I would rather get good weed cheaper from the streets and I DO lol lol..Some ppl are happy with mediocer weed or weak weed and they smoke that and that is all they need. Or tumbled shit and they are happy about that. Not me I need very stronge one hit shit . I would prefer that if I can get that . I would also prefer it if they clubs would listen if I have found it and want them to grow it lol.. If not I think they are truely out of touch with the ppl peace out Headband707

And in LA, SF, many growers cant sell their weed. You have 5 clubs - what happens when there are 500?

What happens when YOU open a club selling a few top quality strains at fair prices? I used to drive 45 minutes out of the way in LA to get to what I considered the best dope in town.

I just cut my lt index finger nearly to the bone, so typing is hard. Point I wanted to make is - if it's substandard, don't buy it. Either wait until you find the good or, if you are like me & require a regular supply, grow it yourself!

Nobody should ever pay for substandard shit, whatever the circumstances.

The free market will decide who deserves to supply quality bud & who does not. Dealers will have to get serious & realize they must only offer quality to the customer. With dealers raising the quality of what they are willing to handle, everyone wins. Growers producing only crap will not be able to unload their harvest (except possibly to the Fed. govt), so they will see the value in starting with quality genetics & begin tending those babies like the gold they are!

I've never heard a recreational user complain about true medical weed; instead, I'm usually fetching them a blanket cuz they've fallen asleep on my sofa.

The free market system will ultimately weed out growers who don't give a damn about their product.

I envision a future where big growers specialize either in sativas or indicas, with medical considerations in mind, and with lab-tested THC & CBD amounts. Then, the medical coops will seek out the best growers, etc.

If your coop/pharmacy leaves the quality of patients' medicine to the grower cuz they don't wanna lose the grower, I'd choose a different pharmacy, period!

After all, isn't patient care what it's all about?

Even though your legal to grow the cops make things very hard on you and many ppl go over their limit and even when they don't the cops show up at your door because you have to call them when you set up your grow. They sometimes make surprise visits and shut you down and take all you gear and being medical you have to TRY and set up all over again which as everyone knows isn't 1-2-3 . Even growing for the clubs is a grey area and considered illegal. You can grow for 2 others and that is 300 plants. Thats a pretty big set up if done right. Start to add clones and seeds and it's easy to go over.So it becomes a real cat and mouse game and has nothing to do with good quality pot anymore as your being chased all over the city even when your legal. While I agree with a lot of what you said, there are 28.3 grams in an OZ, not 32. When you say shit like this it just makes it seem like YOU want to take advantage of growers / dealers which is really no different than them taking advantage of you.

moved here from colorado...and was just dx with multiple sclerosis...I asked my doctor about medicinal use of marijuana and he gave me a prescription for a synthetic pill form...what are the laws here in alabama...the pill was awful...tried it for one month and then stopped it just didn't feel right...plus I caught crap from the pharmacist...in this small southern baptist town...go figure...

The pill does not contain all of the various cannabinoids you need (especially CBDs). I have just discovered autoflower varieties, which have a higher amount of CBD but retain the potency of the indica we who have muscle spasm require.
