Odjob Cement Mixer

Odjob Cement Mixer

I'm new to this board and wanted to share a product that I've been using for a couple of months to mix potting soil - the Odjob Cement Mixer

21K1TCATARL._SL500_AA190_.jpg

For a 5-gallon pot you would use a #1 nursery pot (the standard ones) and add 2 full scoops of your compost and/or earthworm castings along with your soil amendments. Roll the barrel along the floor for a few minutes and then add 6 full scoops of your potting soil mix (Pro Mix, Sunshine Mix, etc.) and continue to roll the barrel around the floor.

Using this formula will insure that you have enough 'head room' in the mixing chamber to insure a complete mix. Trying to mix 1 cf (i.e. 7.5 gallons) doesn't work nearly as well as limiting the soil mix to 5 gallons (i.e. 2/3 of a cubic foot more or less).

I have found this product to do a better job of mixing potting soil over other methods.

I got a quick question for the basic LC mix without nutes should I water the mix with LK at 1tsp per gal for starting seeds? I know you reccomend wetting the mix with LK when you mix LC#1 which i'll do, but wasnt sure about the basic mix.

Im trying to copy LC#1 the best I can heres what ive got.
mircale grow blood meal 12-0-0
miracle grow bone meal 6-9-0
down to earth kelp meal, I forget the npk It's like 0.1.01 or somthing confusing
pro mix
homemade compost
blackgold earthworm castings
blackgold perlite
soil sweet powered dolomite lime
liquid karma
I plan on getting blackstrap molasess

I figure im good to go but I wanted to post this anyway just n case.

FH, looks like you have all the bases covered with the materials. I would use a EWC slurry for the seedlings instead of the LK.

Good job!!

I have a few questions.

I am about 7 weeks in flower with two different bag seed strains, I used LC's#2 mix with the guano tea recipes.

One plant has been giving me problems almost this whole grow. Early on in veg it had yellowing between the veins which I thought was lack of food. They greened up nicely after feeding with the veg teas. I have had problems since in flowering about 4 weeks in had a lot of yellowing of the old fan leaves and burnt tips. It seems like they lacked N but were burnt at the same time. Now when the leaves are yellowing they develop rusty spots like over fertilization. I know it's pretty late in flower and they are supposed to start using up reserves in the fan leaves but I am afraid I have stunted the yield because the buds are not fattening up as much as I hoped.

The other plant I have is actually doing much better, has a some leaf tip burn but not the rapid yellowing of the fans like the first plant. The bud growth is behind on this plant however, and I am guessing it is because they are different strains.

I have been just feeding EWC tea with maxi crop/LK/molasses the last two waterings. I think the flower tea mix was a bit strong for the one plant but the other could handle it.

For the next grow I want to keep it a bit simpler then using guano in the tea mix. Would top dressing be a better idea? And using pelletized guano in soil seems a bit risky, does it break down as easy as the powdered? I have 10-10-2 sea bird, 10-2-1 Mexican bat (powdered) and 0-12-1 powdered Indonesian.

Any opinions or help would be great.

Edit: This is the first grow I have tried with all organics. So far it has been a great experience, I just need to dial it all in a bit more.

thx vonforne,by slurry you mean bubbling ewc tea right?

im pretty sure he means just take a bucket, add some water, add a handful of castings, stir like mad for like 30 seconds, strain lightly and apply. then top dress the solids.

At a guess....the ph is fluctuating. Did you let the soil sit for a while? What type of lime?

I have pelleted P guano.....BFH and a nice flat floor. You can also run over it in the garage. Just lay something on top of it.

Yes I used powdered dolomite lime (says garden and lawn lime, 22% Ca, 11% Mg) in the mix. I didn't let it cook very long before I started these plants as I thought there was no need when just using LC's mix without the dry fertilizers. I do have some that's been in a Rubbermaid for about 2 months now that I have kept moist and turned a few times a week. Hoping to see better results on the next grow. The only variation from the recipe I have really done is I used Promix ultimate organic instead of the regular Promix. I think the only real difference between the two is the organic mix has a very little amount of kelp mixed in as well as lime. Could it be too much lime? I am also using tap water I bubble for 24 hours. I believe the ppm is pretty low like 150 or so.

I'm just wondering if it was Ph because like I said I have another girl in the same mix that hasn't had any problems like I am seeing on the other plant. It could just be strain related, these are bag seeds and you can tell they are two completely different strains.

Dont sweat it. It is best to have let it st for a minimum of 2 weeks but you will be alright. Nothing is written in stone.

I know this isn't the infirmary but i thought I would get the input of the organic folks.

I have been following for a month or so now. Was in hydro and decided to try an organic grow. Started with "roots organic" (before I read Burn 1's tutorial on page one, so go easy on me with the lectures please LOL) soil and augmented it with a bit of EWC and dolomite lime and been watering with mostly EWC tea and and EWC tea and hi P guano once a week or so.
Now in week 4 of flower, I have some yellowing that i would like an opinion on.
Plants are Blue Dream and DP Power Plant. both are showing the yellowing, but the PP is showing more then the BD. I wouldn't mind it so much if I was in week 6 or 7, but I thought I would ask here and see if there is an organic remedy to limp me through the next 4 weeks. I am very happy with the bud size and growing points, just concerned with the yellowing and wondering if there is an organic remedy.

Thanks for your comments.

put the EWC in a 2 gallon jug, fill with water about 3\4 the way and shake like hell. Do that a couple times and strain and water in. Top dress with the left overs.

I'm just wondering what the beneficial difference between that technique vs bubbling the ewc 24-48 hours is, if any? :dunno:

Thanks!

You could give them a low dose of N or some P with a low N. What is the guano rating you have?

Nice to see you grapeman........you came over from Hydro. I wish you the best. Good luck.

And over all the plants look great!

benefits...... a quick fix if you find yourself short on time. Plus you can leave the solid particles as a top dressing.

Although the tea is the better choice.

Thanks for commenting V. I have 3 flavors of Guano "Sunleaves" Mexican (10-2-1), "Sunleaves" Jamaican" (1-10-0.2) and Happy Frog (0-5-0 w/mycorrhizae).

So you think they may be thirsty for a bit of N or P?

Hey all. Hope everyone is well this fine Sunday afternoon!

After searching this thread, I have a new question: How mature should clones be before being transplanted into LC #2 + Recipe # 1 (Bone, Blood, Kelp dry mix)?

I have two different sets of clones:

A) Rooted in rockwool cubes, then transplanted into 64 Oz. cups of straight Happy Frog.

B) Rooted in water in a bubble cloner. Not yet placed in any soil/medium.

Is it a good plan to transplant the A) group into fertilized soil after roots show in their 64 Oz. cups, and to place the B) clones into plaint LC#2 until they show roots through similar cups?

No damn given.

Your clones need to be very well rooted and healthy before transplanting them into LC's Mix using blood/bone/kelp.
