Help me understand this.....if the container size does not matter...10lt to pull a pound and I'm going way overboard with my bucket sizes...wont the roots get bound with an extended veg time?

What do the roots do ? they basicly anchor the plant and take up the nutrient rich water to feed thats it in shot.

My pics dont lie mate i dont lie no need to lie fact is as i sed im giveing a formula that works you want to run 60lt go for it your choice but why bother if your not going to achive any better of a resolt.

I grew a mauie sativa in the first hydro kit i got that the hempy buckets were born from that plant was over 14 ft tall grown out doors the tub was say 2 1/2 feet long 1 foot wide and about 6 to 8 inch high it grew all summer and into winter it flowerd fully harvested and yield was good the plants root ball started to push the plant up ways but grew healthy the tubs valume was under 10lt.

Pictures dont lie heres just 2 plants grown in 10lt buckets both plants yields were over a pound each cured and grown under 40 watts per sq ft lets see your plants grown in 60 lt mate.

hey dub! im not sure why but bucket size does not seem to matter like hempy says. i have a three foot plant in a three pound plastic coffee can. it was just temporary till i got more two gal buckets but its doin so well i havent need to go to a bigger one.the coffee can os less than a gal mayby 3/4 i dint know fer sure. im guna do em all in the same style(square) coffee cans from now on! im doin lst so i will get more in my grow and bloom rooms. i have some that are almost five feet(choppin for clones soon)and theyre in 2 gal. no root bound issues. just a ph screw up on my part but that is fixed.

hey hempy,hi. are you using hps and if so how many watts? how big is your bloom area? i have been using 2 gal buckets with no problems ,ecept the ones i created.in fact i have a three pound coffee can that is workin real good so i might just start using nuthing but those. i dont knw,im doing lst on the next can and see how it works. lst is working good in the 2gal but if i get smaller i can fit more in the same space.speacialy since the cans are square.thanx for sharing yer knowlege of hempys.

hiya tinman well basicly im running under 40 watts per sq ft think infact its closer to 30 watts per sq ft and i use hps lites my pic are phillips son-T run a 600 and a 400 rather run 2 smaller lites and get a more even lite spreed across the space than one larger lite.

I tryed a few diffrent lambs but the son-T is my pic i use to veg with MH and also ran a MH and HPS mix in flower but i my self found the HPS from start to finish my pick.

Bostron it is safe to come out from under the chair mate honest lol.

are you serious? those were grown in 10L pots? how is that possible? where do the roots go??? How long did you veg?

I have some clones in 14L square pots now. I dont veg long because I'm afraid of rootbound. Do you ever get rootbound man?

I've grown 4 ft plants in half gallon containers before. It's really not a problem if you can supply enough water and nutrients to sustain the plant. Most of the issues with plants becoming root-bound has to do with when you transplant them. But even then, if you do it right you won't have any problems.

I have my mothers in 1 gallon hempy buckets right now. Before that, I had them in soil containers roughly the same size. Every six months I trim most of the foliage back, shave a few inches off all sides of the root ball, and repot it into the same container (after washing the salts off.) Every time I do this, the roots look like a big ball of spaghetti when I pull them out. I guess some people would call this root bound. It's never hurt the clone production of any of the mothers as far as I can tell.

Root-bound is not as serious of an issue as some people would make it out to be. You really have to let a plant become root-bound for a looooong time before you'll notice any effects on the growth of the plant. Way longer than the 3 months or so than we have these guys in flower for. People can feel free to call me crazy and not believe me, but I've been doing this for a long time and I know what I've seen and done. Just sharing.

Hey everyone, I got a few started, how does everything look? This is my first grow, and the strain is NLxC99.

11 liter buckets, with 3:1 perlite:vermiculite. They're under a 250 CMH and I'm watering with GH grow/bloom/micro at half the bottle's recommended strength, so 1/8 tsp/gallon of each (can't be too safe, is how I see it) and I'm adjusting pH to roughly 6-6.5. Planning to LST them eventually!

I've got a few little cuttings trying to get stronger and ready. I'll put 4 of them in 2 gal containers and run them the whole way and see what I get. If I can use less medium and less nutrient, then I'm all ears.
I'm not one to post pics of those plants....I'll post my veggies or flowers, but not too big on posting buds. I'm still too leary of putting that kind of thing online.
However, I would love to post the pic of my lst'd 5 month veg plant....she is getting pretty nice since the flip. Great info as always!

hi hempy, thanx for the info i have just one more question. i am understanding you right? you run your hps from start to finish, meaning from veging to flower? i have thought of doing that but was never sure if it was a good idea.
also,i have alot of alge build up.is it anything to be concerned with? is it bad for the plants?

hi mate no i run the hps from veg to harvest and the alge is no prob all that it is in short is the nutrient rich water at the top of the medium reacting to the lite soon as the plants grow and reduse the lite to the medium and as you water it will vanish if you move the medium with your finger you will see its only at the top its harmless any way and no probs ask away.

hiya hempy, what a beautiful rainy moring! do you think your yeilds are bigger due to the fact that you use an hps light in veg?

I thought that the hps didnt offer the same light spectrum and would not be as good a light for vegetative growth?

Well all i can say is this i have used mh both for veg only and for veg then flower have used mh and then mh and hps for flowering but i only use hps now and have for years as i my self saw a better end resolt its really up to what you find works best for you mate.

Its really about the end resolt and the produce you end up with that counts not how we get.

Hi mate never used them nutrients but as a ruel i just mix as sed on the bottle instructions and feed as they need it the only time i ever change from what the instructions say is when i see plants showing there not likeing full feeds soon as there going into flower wich are normaly sativa or sativa expresive hybrids then i go half strength and or have even only fed plants water from that point up untill harvest.

The main thing i look for as in ph is the water if that is 7ph nutreal or close then your set and mix as they sugest.

They can stay under chairs if there cumffy mate i only post what i know is fact wich comes from hands on experence if some one feels im rong there in there right to point that out and explane why im happy with that.

hempy, ihave a question regaurding re-use of my hempy medium.
i am using pearlite/vermiculite at a three to one ratio.
what i want to do is use my tap water to wash the medium before i use it again. heres the thing....my tap water is rediculas! its ppm is anywhere between 650 and 900 ppm! it varies a lot. if i wash my medium with this water and let it dry,do you think it will cause problems with my next grow when i re-use it? i use ro water in all my grows but i have to but it from a store and dont want to haul a bizzilion gallons to wash this stuff! what is your thoughts on this?

you might want to check your PPM meter ... the EPA max level for drinking water is 500 ppm ... so i'm going to say yours is probably not very good for you to drink?

just a thought
