If you think college is a waste of time, I have an even better one waiting for you right now. The line at the unemployment office is now longer than ever and every employer is getting pickier and pickier about who they employ. What do you have and what does the fellow next to you have? Oh, you have a DEGREE? Gee, we could use someone who has COLLEGE smarts here.

There's always the welfare line. The thing about the welfare line is that less than 15% of the people in line for welfare have college degrees.

That should tell you something really important about the real VALUE of a college education. It's not the cost, it's the insurance it provides when you need a really good job when you hit your big earning years. Yeah, in the beginning the jobs are kind of thin and the money is even thinner, but over time you will start to outpace those of us who do not have a college degree and your resume will look better and better and that means more money.

Stupid is not going to school. Waste is walking away from the only opportunity you are going to have in your lifetime to insure your lifetime earnings will be maximized to the fullest extent. Smart is realizing that everything worth having takes some work to get and Spanish 3 is one of the things smart people are achieving. If you are having trouble remembering the words reduce your intake for a while. You have the rest of your life to smoke pot and have fun, but you only have the opportunity for an education NOW.

Don't fuck up your only opportunity to get ahead. You'll love me for this advice in ten years, so say thank you now, stay in school and study as hard as you can. Everything you learn has value in this world.

You can take that to the bank.

Post Script.

I had a client prospect call today and ask how long I've been a business consultant. "Twenty-two years," I said. "What school did you go to?" "None," I said. "I'm one of those people with a real high I.Q. who just picks things up. Let me show you my work and what I've done for other people just like you," I said.

He hung up. Would having that college degree have gotten me the sale? I don't know, but right now the $2,500 in billings would have made a big difference to my family. I can't tell you how many times that has happened, but it has added up to more than the price of a master's degree education. Of that I am more than certain.

wow MPD that client sounds ignorant as hell.. i went to school with many business majors and half those kids were drinking and partying more than me and i doubt they even retained half the shit they learned. i barely remember anything from my eco and business classes.

i learned more about business breaking down pounds in college than i did in the classroom!

my mom also has this very ignorant attitude that people who dont go to college are "inferior" and it really pisses me off because i have lots of friends who never went to college. i hate people who think that you need to have a degree to be something.

It sounds like you are in the same kind of situation I was in when I was in college. I got down to my last semester, and my advisor noticed that I still had to take 3 semesters of foreign language. OOOOOPS. So much for graduating on time. I was incredibly pissed for the first semester, then I began to get into it.....during this time I took more classes and ended up double majoring. Now I use the Spanish I learned on a daily basis; and I'm incredibly glad that I was 'forced' into taking it.
Now, not saying college is your way into a good job. Hell, I double majored from a major university, have a clean record and am working a $9/ hr job right now........ times are tough man, but one day we'll be glad we persevered. My recommendation is try to do something with healthcare...... that's what I'm working on right now, and the job offers are starting to roll in........... if I could go back this is what I would have studied in college, not history .

yea health care is good atm

i would love to read for a general practitioner........... or maybe even nurse..

Hmm...I have found my education to be quite fulfilling in more ways than one. Throughout highschool I was a poor student because I wasn't learning about things I was passionate about (plus I was stoned all day). However, when college came around I put in my year at a community college to boost my GPA and prove to the top-level universities that I was in fact a disciplined individual and could handle the course load. I got into a well-respected university and have excelled and am now in my final semester. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout despite the fact that I was addicted to OxyContin for over 2 years during my Sophomore and Junior years. In addition, parties are everywhere, therefore pussy is everywhere. The biggest downside of college life I have found is to be searching for genuine people that are not trying to impress others by how much they can drink/do drugs or by how much money they have. I have found trouble identifying with many of the individuals I go to school with but have found many girlfriends and have fucked at least once pretty much every day of my college life.

I can see how your situation would be frustrating though. My quarrels with modern universities are that they are money-printing machines. Students at my school pay 27k a semester, multiply that by 40,000 and see what you get. Astounding profits. It is difficult to get in and see a counselor/get the classes you want seemingly no matter how EARLY you try at my university and classes are extremely overcrowded.

Other than that, its been pretty damned good.

great the book i gotta buy for this class is 150 bucks fucking awesome.

haha is it como se dice?

i once had a hard cover spanish book that, at the book store, was $220. this was not including the workbook which they ran out of, but would let me make a special order for it, and it cost $70.

the class cost like $400

for impoverished college students this wasted money could go towards supporting a marijuana smoking habit.

and when you try to sell your used book back, guess what? a new edition came out a few months ago and they're not buying the old ones back. off to the ebay outdated book graveyard.

They grow sugar cane in Haiti, we grow marijuana. I don't have enough fingers for people with masters degrees that grow as there main income, I feel very fortunate. :comfort:

Yeah? But history is so frickin' cool. Want to know where we are headed? Just look where we have already been. It amazes me how often history repeats itself and we see the same signs, the same mistakes and the same abyss yawning in front of us, but someone says jump and...

Glad the health care gig is working.

I built my resume in the Navy. I worked on advanced weapons system technology (nuclear toys). When I got out of the service the demand for my skills was practically zero. The best job offer I got that was related to my field was to teach electronics at a technical school for a princely $26,000 a year. I was hoping for $35,000, so that shows you what the value is for a knothead WITH NO COLLEGE DEGREE!

Dont really see why your complaining? if the book helps you with your course and ultimately leads you to your degree then it's $150 well spent .

If you think things are bad now wait until you have to work for a living, pay bills and eek out an existence in the real world..

Its nasty out here and your much safer taking shelter in college.

if you grow having a college degree goes a long way towards blending into society.... oh i work at home... u know engineering/programming work i do over the net i learned in college etc... cops like alumni license plate frames, serious on that one; why pat down a college grad? you don't scare chicks as much either. nowadays growers have more job security than most; funny how things have changed in the past few years; especially with the medical scene. go bruins yo! :joint:

gogoplata420

fuck this... im on this site 24/7 and i havent earned the privilege. im 18 years old and i got nothing to show for it... no license, no diploma, no nothing. im sick of feeling sorry for myself... i got arrested two years ago, so what? i learned from it and grew up in the process. the next step is to get off all these fucking meds and get my head right. its time to start living or stop existing. the way my life is right now, im just waiting to die. its time to make some changes or speed up the process.

i used to be a fucking stud back in the day. i was 16 and colleges were already talking to my hitting coach. i couldve had it all... i could still have it all... i dont even want to go to college for parties or pussy. i just want to get good grades(for once), play baseball, and have some good clean fun for a change. its probably still doable but ill never find out if i continue to live this pathetic life ive chosen for myself.

goodbye icmag... ill be back(hopefully ill be able to construct paragraphs by then )
