Repoting after 12/12

Wondering if I should repot these plants. Started with 5, three were males. The girls are now in 11L (2.9gal) square pots. I flipped to 12/12 3 days ago. I'd like a 4oz yeild from each plant. They're under dual lamps: 250w HPS + 250w CMH. They vegged for 41days.

That tile is 20" if that helps with scale.

With only two I've got room for larger pots. I could use 5 gal buckets but I'm not sure if the shock risk is worth it. Seems like I've read that repotting while flowering is ill advised?

How much difference will 5 gal pots make vs. 3 gal? Is it reasonable to think I could get 8 oz out of 6 gal of soil under 250w+250w? For reference, I got 5.75oz out of 9gal (3x3gal) flowering under a single 250w HPS last time.

Help me decide what to do, if anything.

You can transplant anytime but with that beast i would go for a double potting for minimal stress.

i dont know if this will help, but this one is a 1 gallon bag stacked on top of a 3 gallon bag and filled in with soil to cover the drain holes on the 1 gallon

Rather than transplanting, BushyOldGrower (BOG) cuts the bottom out of the present pot, and places it in a larger pot partially filled with soil.

This image shows this technique, with the smaller pot having had its bottom inch removed.

The double potted plant is now ready to put on some new roots.

buddha fett :) makes a cut along the bottom and tapes it back up before he starts his plants to limit stress.

Finally, a new spin on this Bushy Old Technique by Overgrow contributor eugene, who transplanted this grow bag onto a trough filled with soil. Its now ready to grow and SCroG.

how often are you watering the plants? If its every 3-4 days then I would say no transplant is needed, if its everyday then give them girls some new diggs...

Hey man, noticed the office clips you use to tie the plants down, I thought I was the only one who used them, sure beats the heck out of drilling holes in the pots...lol

Double potting....I see. I like that idea. I don't like cutting up my current pots but they are replaceable. I do have some height restriction though. Plus, now that I've looked I'm not sure I've got enough soil to up-pot all that much.

I could do something like this. I'm sure I've got the soil for it and I can make it only as tall as I dare (40" floor to hood is my restriction). That'd give me a boost in soil volume without disturbing the plants tooo much.

Grass lands--recently they've needed water about every two to three days. Also, I seem to have noticed they've wanted more nutes than I was originally giving them. 24hrs ago I gave them a 2000ppm watering with bloom nutes and was afraid I was pushing it. The lights just came on and they look good--no leaf discoloration and strong, perky growth.

I guess I'm deciding they really could make use of extra room and the double pot idea is a good way to add some.

you would need to drill holes in the bottoms,or cut the bottoms off,not sure the roots would find there way out in that config

Double potted them. Turned out well, I think.

Cut the bottoms off. It was harder than I thought. The blade was new but it was still laborious. Not recommended to those prone to accidental cuts!

No way to help cutting roots right up against the pot. I pulled away all the ones that I cut.

Now they've got 1 extra gallon of soil to grow into!

Perfect just give them a week to recover and they will be thriving again.
(good luck and nice job).

Subscribed, those are some healthy looking plants you got there. I'm a nublet when it comes to growing i have my first grow going now with six plants about 12 days in flower. I have a question, were you seeing sign of your plants being root bound, and if so what were they? Thanks for the thread and your pics were helpful in seeing your process. Cant wait to see how the ladies take to their new container.
