just a sign of the times. ive noticed a whole different element than the hippies or geeks that i used to see 10 years ago in the local shop. more criminal/gangster types than ever these days. the shop has been broken into 2x in the last year, that kind of stuff never used to happen! im sure its a matter of time b4 an armed robbery happens there, with the daily cash flow & high value merchandise....

I also live in the Bay Area. I've seen people like that. I would not want to hang out with them or live next door to them BUT I'm glad they shop where I do. If it was not for some of the egotistical big spenders who come in and get sold all kinds of top dollar crap there would be less profit so they would not give me as big of a discount on my frugal purchases. I would only get a fraction of the free stuff I do now if everyone was nice. It makes it easier to divide up all the samples, magazines and free bottles of GH stuff when you can rule out a number of customers who are rude and unsociable.
I would never tell the asshole what I think of him because it might hurt the store owner's sales. If anything I might admire his quality items. Maybe even mention that 'I sure wish I could afford to buy that top quality stuff'. When the jerk tells me 'all you have to do is know how to grow big' and that he can spend this much weekly, all I can do is hang my head. And smile on the inside as another customer smirks and the owner gives me a thumbs up in the background.
All of the hydro stores I shop at generally help you carry heavy things out to your car. If the store is busy, I'm always willing to put my cup of coffee down and offer to help carry stuff out.

When people come into my business, that's one of the first signs they see. I have no problem telling people to take their business someplace else and I'm not a growshop either.

I personally think a lot of hydro store employees and owners have this aura of smug about them, like they think THEY are the shit, and make normal customers (like myself) feel like they are just condescending assholes. kind of like tattoo artists or something, its just like really annoying, so i have no sympathy for an employee who gets a bad customer once in a while.
I've never received anything but the best service from these folks.
It depends on the area that you live in, some places being stoned and driving up in an expensive vehicle that is registered to your address is not a big deal. If the guy was stoned out of his mind and walked into a grow shop in a place that you could get 20 years for growing than I can see your point. I personally only shop at places that have been business for decades and have good reputations in the growing community so theirs not much to worry about.
I should mention the guy was in quite a pushy rush - he took all of his stuff, piled it on the cart and bolted out the door even as the attendants were attempting to help him. Once he was at his car and realized it wouldn't fit he came back in and became demanding about assistance.
I live in a legal bum-rape state when it comes to the herb. There is a beer/wine homebrew section in the store as well. Shutting down of local hydro shops is common!

When I waited tables I always said I would much rather have big tipping assholes in my section then small tipping nice people, nice doesn't pay the bills.
At least the shop gets to make some money off the guy before he gets popped.
can't help it, but I'm curious as to why would anyone need to go to the hydro shop after ten hours of trimming?
