New Earths right around the corner?

I noticed Kepler found 5 new planets: 4b, 5b, 6b, 7b, and 8b. So the question screaming out to me is, where are the missing planets? What happened to 1b, 2b, and 3b? Maybe they are new Earths in more distant orbits, and they are waiting for another orbit or two to confirm them before announcing them? Why else would they skip past those numbers? Some members in another thread would have you believe it is some kind of galactic conspiracy! :D
I think they found something exiting and want to confirm it first.
This is an exiting time to be alive for science discoveries!

what? no one else cares if there are other Earth-like planets out there? perhaps with their own sentient beings? And no one else noticed those missing numbers?

Myabe the other planets were males and got thrown out. I am running serious ak47 1,3,8,10,11 right now, what happened to the other numbers? LOL

numbers? not so much
but the discoveries are exciting
and this is just the start, in upcoming years new scopes will be able to do more
right up to being able to do a spectrograph of another earth's atmosphere, including the gas oxygen

Im sure we're not the only one out here, its just the matter of time we'll find them or they'll find us. :D

Cheers,

Sure it would be cool to observe other "Earths", but whats then? We can't travel there any time soon, and probably never. If its inhabited and we send them a message, they may arrive here and proceed to eat us and then strip mine or colonize our planet.

just kidding by the way

Fantastic post Space Toker! One of my favorite topics. I cant wait till science finds the
"sister planet" where there's indigenous peoples there have purified & perfected the art of growing cannabis and the buds burn at 75% thc . . . :jawdrop:

that's science, may not be a practical result
and i don't much care for sending messages, just to be on the safe side
but you never know for sure on travel, there's a few 'out there' ideas

I believe parallel universes will be visited before we can travel at light speed or greater...and even then you have the whole time dilation issue

Its amazing that these piles of dust and water that are us have found planets circling stars many light years away, but I really wonder if we will ever actually get to visit those stars.

true but there are no male planets that I am aware of! :D

yes that will be soon I hope. Eventually (if they invest the time and money like anything else) we may be able to image continents on other planets but that is optimistically a few to several decades away, I hope I live long enough!

You do realize humans make great food rite? I don't trust Aliens.

ya we go well with ketchup what's your point? Actually we are too bony! :D :D
Although that may explain the recent explosion in overweight people, maybe they are here already and genetically engineering our food to fatten us up for later! :D

Im sure we're not the only one out here, its just the matter of time we'll find them or they'll find us. :D

Cheers,

yes I think so too, I think that's what 2012 will be all about, not an end but a new and wonderous beginning!

well you wait and see how fast we get our heads out of our ass and start properly funding space travel technological research! And the hostile alien thing is possible, but I think anyone advanced enough to travel here will either just be barely advanced enough to get here, or will have advanced well beyond the need or want for conquest. I may be naive but I do think it is possible we will one day be like on Star Trek, with no need or want for money. one can only hope!

thanks! and now you're talking! Who knows what kind of wonderous stuff they may have to trade with us!

well there's wormholes for starters, and warp drive is really possible believe it or not! Michio Kaku on the science channel outlines the possibilities and if properly funded it would be very possible eventually. Do you realize we allocate far less than 1 percent of our budget to all of NASA? $14 billion, or is it 16? regardless, the drug war gets $50 billion or more, the military gets hundreds of billions. The numbers don't add up, that's all I can say.

someone who knows their stuff, COOL! You watch Michio too I take it?

so all the posts have been great, keep up the good work everyone!
peace!

wormholes are actually mainstream physics, at least theory wise
warp drive i'd be more skeptical of
if really interested, NASA has(or used to have) a BTP web page - Break Through Propulsion or something like that
these ideas are described, and some of the physics for them
sadly, this program has been discontinued for lack of funding
tell you the truth, radically new propulsions probably won't come from some government(or private) funding, the ideas are just too radical
if it does come, likely some unfunded physicist working on his own

But then quickly stolen and classified by the GVMT

But then quickly stolen and classified by the GVMT

knowledge can be 'copied', much tougher to steal
the originator of the idea still has it, i guess killing him(or her) would take the idea away
but you have a point that such knowledge might not be welcomed by everyone, there are historical precedents of governments trying to keep 'bad' ideas hidden
those attempts usually are doomed, a good idea has legs
