The slow death of Head Weed...

Maybe...

Maybe...

Growing up in the 70s all we were smoking were Sativas. We had the Jamaicans, Hawaiians (real deal in those days) Colombians and Mexicans. Lots of crazy stomach hurting laughter. I smoked a Hawaiian in the 70s that was like an acid trip. It come on getting us higher and higher in waves from one bong hit. I mean can any of you remember a certain weed or a high that you had 35 years ago?

I couldn't go to the supermarket 'cause I'd start laughing at everything!

Cereal boxes are hilarious!!!

Clammy cold sweaty hands, blood shot eyes, shit eating grin, walking on the moon!

Just BLAZED proper!

What a topic of discussion, great pic.

some years back I gave a bag of mexi sativa swag to a co worker from the ghetto and the next day she said that it didn't even get her high and that she had to put some liquor on it and put it in the microwave and then she was able to get high. I just shook my head turned around and walked away.

I think that most people that smoke "weed" and don't like it would probably like a good sativa, clear headed cerebral. It is a totally different feeling compared to the more common stoney couch locker indica that everyone, the general public, associates to "weed" and "stoners".

Comparing cannabis to wine is about as close a comparison that can be made, but I think cannabis is far more varied in its capable experiences.

For me, I prefer sativas. They compliment my personality. I'm always calm and don't get stressed out about anything, generally non-social and a creative thinker.

In a perfect world we would all enjoy the pure cannabis sativa as the ultimate transmitter and enhancer of all things wonderful, joyful and sexual about marijuana.

That's a perfect world and perfect worlds only exist in the minds of those who are under the influence of a mind-bending sativa.

Then reality sets in...

Marijuana has become a medically-oriented industry. People like me would love to sit around and happily chortle along with a sativa adventure but that leaves no room for what we are looking for; relief from chronic pain and illnesses that defy all other treatments. I am happy there are many people out there that enjoy marijuana as a means of promoting social intercourse, but the trend is towards marijuana indica because of the medical movement. We are the quasi-legal side of the argument and there is no room for true sativas in most gardens because the medical benefits seem to be derived, by and large, from using indicas to treat these maladies.

I have stumbled upon a sativa dominant strain that is a combination of the indica AK47 pheno and Romulan that provides a little bit more of the sativa head experience (which sometimes helps me treat my daily tension migraine headaches) but retains the indica power. This is insanely strong pot and I admit that nothing runs through my head but static when I use this pot, but it does have the power to decelerate the headaches and helps with the back pain as well.

R has his points. We have walked away from the pure sativa because it takes forever to bloom one and the real pure sativa genetics are hard to find. For the casual enthusiast smoking pot should be a social event that enhances the evening - not end it as is too frequently the case with the powerful, ball-busting indica that shuts down everything but heart and lung functions. You go to sleep on indicas simply because there is nothing else for your body to do; the indica takes all the choices away. This makes indicas the ideal bed-time smoke when sleep is preferred to sex (which is the choice once you are over 45 I can assure you) and therefore indicas have a place in our world.

Indicas are medicine plants and abusing an indica just means your plans for the day/evening will be changing. You will either be locked to the couch watching an incredibly fascinating nature show or rooting through the refrigerator to see if there is any mayonnaise left to put on the leftover pasta, sauerkraut, peanut butter and lima bean sandwich. I've put on more weight smoking indicas than I would like to admit and I think you see my point.

R isn't talking about revolution, he is advocating a counter-revolution where the economics of the pot-growing industry are to be fundamentally changed to provide growers with the necessary economic incentive to grow out the long-blooming pure sativas based upon the connoisseur's preference for pot that makes the perfect complement to a social occasion. Growers will have to be able to command a premium for pot that is all head and no body, but that will be a difficult path to tread. Indicas help digestion by settling aggravated tummies, calming jitters and allowing people to regain the weight that medical procedures like chemotherapy strip away from the body. Growers get a premium for medical grade cannabis and that is my point. Growers will have to get a premium for pot that is all head or it won't happen.

All of this is to say that sativas will only make a comeback when the buzz from the pure sativas (ala real Panama Red and old-fashioned Columbian Gold) becomes the choice of heads and pure hitting power gets "traded-up" for pure enjoyment.

I'm doing a new project to provide myself with a perpetual garden. In the past I just did a RDWC 4-station grow and that gave me enough pot to treat my medical conditions for up to six months. I am trading that for a perpetual garden in a stealth cabinet where I will have room for as many as four (4) moms in the box. I'd like one of those moms to be a pure, butt-plugging, joyful pure sativa that provides the pure sativa experience for people who visit and want to have a good time.

Maybe you should have a good time in your garden as well; either way, our community wins as long as good genetics and purity are the process by which we all grow together.

Only fellow old farts appreciate it!
WTF ?

I beg to differ with you, good sir. I'm by no means an old fart, although in some ways I've been geriatric since birth. I like velcro shoes and sweat suits. Waking up early and using coupons at the grocery. Physically, though, I'm barely out of my first quarter century....
And I've always loved sativas. From the first minute I experienced a cross with some sativa dominance in it I was hooked. The energy is what I need from my medicine, not the distraction. Probably just the alignment of my cannabinoid receptors, but indicas just put me out of commission. Super Jack was a revelation to me. Ever since, my mainstay in my garden is a sativa dominant cross. It's only recently that I've been delving into the world of indica. Mostly it's just to appease my curiosity. Also, my cut of SSH isn't the most helpful for going to bed.
I'm just saying that you can't lump all us youngsters into the same boat.:elf:

Unfortunately for me sativas generally cause anxiety when functioning around people so I prefer indicas but if not around people and I need that boost I'll take some.

Interesting thread!

I'm a sativa fan personally. I need the motivation and love the trippy creativity boosts.

I've found a lot of people who have quit smoking weed have done so because they hit a sativa that made them paranoid and anxious, when what they really wanted was to get stoned on a nice chilled indica. Sativas are awesome, but the high can be very complex and emotionally jarring - with hazes tripping the inexperienced. But find the right one and you've got a friend for life.

Just a matter of finding Miss Perfect. Sativas Rule!

Some peeps hit it on the head on the first page, a lot of the younger crowd was weened on Indica and Indica hybrids so they associate that with what weed is "supposed" to be. And we have to remember that a lot of people smoke weed just "to get fucked up." The online weed community might seem pretty big and all inclusive, but we are the very small minority. We appreciate the nuances and the right weed for the right situation... but the majority doesn't.

Well, the growers have spoken!

Well, the growers have spoken!

Some more decades of continuity are assured for Head Weed!

Now...

My concern at this point is the future of genetic information.

Particularly that present in the current "domesticated" Sativa population.

Some carefully planned open pollination projects would be nice to safeguard genetic diversity.

To keep having different colors on the cannabis "head" palette.
