MOSCASEEDS testers: GRAPEFRUIT FLY... by mellomel

Hola Mel!

Hard to see the actual color of your Grapefruit Fly leaves but I would speculate the smaller one is in need of nutes. You see the Grapefruit Flys are nute hogs and will take whatever you can give them-- within reason of course-- just to give you an idea-- in flowering I generally run at a high point in EC nutrient levels 1.8. Even when running nutrients this high, the Grapefruit Fly still shows some signs of nutrient deficiency! Just something to consider.

But back to your question on the Grapefruit Fly height, she will grow BIG & ROBUST; so if you start flowering with a plant 18 inches tall you can expect a finished plant 3.-4 feet tall. And she likes to "spread her wings"! But you can expect a BIG harvest of phat colas when grow correctly!

I know you do her right!

Hey Mosca,

Ah, thank you very much. Yes they are a lil yellow, I did notice this and we are upping their feed tonight to 0.8ec and seeing how that takes. But keep in mind that they are also vegging under a 600w hps.
We also had to ditch our 1000w mh due to coming into summer (which is very hot in oz-40c+most the time.) as it's not an air cooled hood. We did have an air con in there, but we moved it into the kids bedroom to help them sleep better as bub's especially hates the heat. But we are working on getting another A.S.A.P.
Sorry about the pics too, I usually zoom in on them after I take the pics, but It must of slipped my mind in the excitement of finally getting some pics up, lol. I will remember next time. You are a man of detail obviously. And that is a good thing.
I feel really good about this test. And could not be more happier with all the support and advice you are giving.
Please feel free to point out anything or say anything, after all, I am here to learn as much as I possibly can.

Looking good, mello. Bodacious looking babies. Mine have a case of slugoitis - can't get going quite yet. I'll be patient.

I am sure they will kick off for you mpd, good things come to those who wait...

I have some brilliant news, I transplanted the Grapefruits today into 1.5 pots first before going into the permenant flower pots and I noticed that the bigger Gfly has preflowered female. And Shaun pointed out to me the tear drop shaped gland/node on the shorter Gfly which in his experience is an early possible indicator of another lady. Hope to see 2 lil white hairs soon, once confirmed I will post vjay jay pics(my husband dared me to write that-no offense please) ;)

hey mosca what the lineage of the grapefruit used?
I'm interested in buying grapefruit fly, but I first would like to know where that grapefruit originated... thanks man!

My Grapefruit momma came from Reeferman Seeds. He used the same Sweep Pink Grapefruit clone Breeder Steve used. I have run this mother for over 4 years and she KICKS ASS! I will be posting some Grapefruit Fly Pics this weekend. Heavy Yielder with a Beautiful aroma & Taste. And she is Super easy to grow! Hope that helps Madback!

Feliz Navidad,

Sounds tasty. Mello, sounds like you and Shaun have it working. Mine are getting along now and I am marginally happier. I forget this strain isn't stable and to mind my manners. Patience is such a glorious experience (or so I keep telling myself).

Looking forward to the next installment.

Mosca, that Grapefruit Fly sounds wicked and I will put it on my list of things to try.

Happy holidaze to all.

Hope everyone had a Safe Holiday...:santa1:

Here are some pics of the 2 Girls, as you can see growing fast now...
Getting 1.3ec at a ph of 6.0

1 of the girls seems to be going yellow in the new growth... Shaun seems to think it is a Cal/Mag deficiency but is not 100% sure as we have never had a cal/mag problem before..

We do use tap water which according to the water-board there is cal/mag added, Shaun said next feed we will dose with some Blackstrap molasses until we can get a definitive answer
SO we are asking for people's opinion????
Pics, this is the plant showing def. its also a bit close to the fan

It could be a liitle stressed getting blasted by the fan, give it a little hit of cal/mag supplement. It can't hurt it.

Looks good. I'm watching with baited breath.

Peace..

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Hi Mel, so glad to see yuv ended up with a couple of girls through the rocky start of it all! It seems like the one yellowing may be a lil light burn or bleaching from being in the middle of the sweet spot right under the light. The cupping or turning of the next set of leaves under the ones yellowing is another sign of this, imo anyway.

Anyhoo, gonna tag along on this and see how they turn out. Best of luck to ya's! Take care... BC

Thanks B.C. the plant was directly under the middle of the light and the 36 deg temps didn't help the grow room maxed out at 30.6deg for a couple days

We had one of those heat shield things that go on the light mogul which i forgot to put back on after changing globes, i put that back on and the plants seem to have improved.

The light was about 2 foot above the plants at the time, i have had plants closer before and never had this problem so the heat shield thing must work

Thanks for the advice B.C.

shaun/mel; the plants look great. The unseasonably cold, cold snap delivered a death blow to my plants and I had a brief moment of silence yesterday for their fate. New seeds are already germinating, so we won't lament them too long. :)

That Grapefruit Fly is looking Grapefruit all the way. Anything additional to report on how the rascals smell? Any stickiness to add to them? They look positively beaming with health and vitality. The grower's touch definitely shows... K+

mpd, I am so sorry for your loss. May you have better luck this time round...sending POTative vibes your way buddy ;)

The Girls are doing very well and have improved nicely...looking very lush now...

They have been transplanted to 12ltr grow bags the day b4 last and are settling in comfortably...

They are now being fed 1.6ec, ph 6.0...with no signs of nute burn, so I will be bumping up their next feed to 1.8ec...

Just finished day 1 of 12/12...no smells yet, no stickiness yet....

Current heights are GF-Fly #1 is 15inches...
GF-Fly #2 is 18inches...

Yeah, well we are freezing to death here in America right now and it is so cold I am just downright surprised. No matter, I have some new plants in the cabinet now and the cabinet is sitting in my living room. Enough on that score.

Those kids are looking positively wonderful. Love the preflowers so let the buddage begin. These have already been switched to 12/12 or when are you planning on that move? I gather that since this is a grapefruit strain it will finish in less than 55 days?

M

mosca negra

MPD- Yes, the Grapefruit Fly can be taken at 55 days, but I like to wait until 60 days; by waiting the additional 5-7 days, you can add additional weight. Some of the branches have such heavy buds that they hang upside down. also, much more coloring (reds & purples) in the foliage comes out during these additional 5-7 days. If you look at my Strain Guide, here in my help desk, you will see pictures of Grapefruit Fly colas that have solid Purple calyxes. VERY Yummy!!
