Vegan what are using as wicking material there mate? Some sort of towel? Mistress mentioned this in one of her threads when I was first having a look into this method (which looks the tits and is top of my list!).

I wonder if nappy material 'Terry Toweling' or whatever it' was called/is called these days would be good?

up date

anyone intrested in this system for low maintaninace

i had to go out of town for 7 days

i fed/watered all my plants till the point where the llevel of the "res" and the bottom of my pots were witnin 1" of each other

kissed em goodby and low and behold they were all still alive..

7 days later!!

the towel plant looked sad but perked right up within one hand watering,,temps were a bit high 88 deg

screwed the pooch on the pic

nice!

member delta9nxs may have mentioned acrylic (batting), then polyester as wicking materials. cheapo nylon ropes have worked well. will check into the acryllic though...

have ran 88f temps. as long as good air flow (circulation), they will love higher temps.

enjoy your garden!

Hi Whodi, I've a couple of questions for you.

Have you found that a particular number of plants or container size works best for the trees around a vert 1000w?

Also, how exactly did you hang the bulb? Is that string? What is it hung from, just another hook in the ceiling?

I've got two x 600w setup right now, hung with chains and it's a mess. Definitely looking to make it easier to raise and lower.

2-4 max per 1k... 3 cu'-6 cu' per plant...

14 guage solid, insulated wire for hanging lights... :2cents: or, old extension cords...:D

:ying:

enjoy your garden!

i'd do 4 max in 5 gal (plenty for coco)

i actually hung it with weed eater trimmer line.. there is a hook nail in the ceiling. You could use a chain.

I'm thinking of trying a new method... veg around a 400 watt hung in middle.. use pipe cleaners to train the back branches to grow toward the front of the plant near bulb.. veg this out for 8 weeks and then put the plants in a 1k flower room... so all the branches would then be growing towards one side, the bulb.

nope no need to flush at all if you're ppm's are moderate. If you would like, you can flush with 1/4 nute strength once a week.

small pots would need watering more depending on the size of plants and how much light/heat your plant is getting. Again no runoff if using moderate ppm's.

And whatever coco you get, just make sure you flush out all the excess salts before using it. (really really good flush)

This is how I do it in veg, no matter what happens in flower. I'm actually surprised about the "no runoff" hubbub. No that your grow isn't nice, but that isn't more already more of an accepted practice.

awesome, thread subscribed.

If I were to use flora novabloom, or another nute with humic/fu;vics. along with subculture-m or the like, molasses, and a kelp product (sea-90 is my choice?) then I shouldn't need an air stone and have less problems and better plant health correct?

I love the no run-off concept, I just cant decide which buckets to use (not sure if i can get free buckets where im at, may have to use grow bags lol) and whether or not I need airstones. I just dont want to add h202 to the mix, i'd rather combat negatives naturally if possible.

peace and love to you all, will post pics once I build. cheers!!

I did zero runoff for the last couple runs. I def had lockout issues. Feeding was 800ppm in flower. I did a flush when going into flower but my runoff i tested at week 6 was already off the meter (2500+) so im going back to 10-15% runoff and flushing every 2 weeks with 2x the amount of the pot.

I've only had lockout during a zero runoff from letting the coco dry out. Keep it moist and the nutrients will stay in solution, ensuring that they are available to the plants.

H&G`s Dripclean @ 1 ml per gal will prevent residual salt buildup in the medium guaranteed as long as yas run lower ppm`s across the board.......

800 ppm`s is getting a lil high but they`ll do fine with regular feeds to keep the coco "moist" at all times.....and.......

If yas completely flush coco what happens is yas fuck with the cation exchange capacity of the medium since it`ll hold onto potassium , calcium , and magnesium till it reaches a certain level before it`ll release said nutrients back to the plant , and ........

Once flushed out will take a recovery period before the plants will actually receive the proper macro`s and micro`s and get back on track from the lockouts and imbalances......so.....

If yas feel the need ta flush , then do it with a 1/2 strength nutrient solution to keep ppm`s in check , but with dripclean and no more than 750 ppm`s start of bloom to finish of cycle , DTW with buncha runoff has all but vanished ........granted......

With automated timed fed DTW there`ll always be a certain amount of runoff , but it can be reduced greatly with the implementation of dripclean into your nute blend......anyways.....

Hope that helps......DHF........:ying:......

I do little to no runoff and get great results . Learned that lesson on accident in a garden i had no time to tend to and got great yeilds . Plants on the floor in coco/perlite no runoff at 800 ppms .
