wariat. I will be visiting europe!!! I can get a great deal on the supersun2 from my hydroshop. the box it comes in is about the size they allow a carry on luggage. I would be happy to bring it over with me, so you dont have to pay shipping just the cost of the reflector. you can meet me or I can ship it to you from within europe. I will be in amsterdam and romania. I will be in europe in april. good luck to you

darthvapor, I am grateful to you for your willingness to help, but I'm not interested.

I know that this is a lot of work to do a technical drawing, but as I wrote earlier I think that not only am I on this benefit.

Moreover, in our country, you can easily buy a German plate, with the reflection of stucco, which is simply great when it comes to light reflection. You do not have to use mylar or paint.

FreezerBoy you absolutely right. Safety in our profession is the basis.

BTW great job with your refrigerator :D

Good luck, and be safe

Hey all I was also interested in some of the reflector test results along with some other light test i would like to perform. My first Test will be the SS 2 reflector Vs. the Daystar AC. I will be sure to post my results and use the testing format specified within this thread. I will performing the test once I get some input back on ballast selections for my room http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?p=2987954#post2987954

Also just wanted to say awesome job to everyone who is putting so much effort into this thread.

Blah, i wish i woulda found this thread before making my last reflector purchase. Oh well, lesson learned i guess. I bought a 1000w lumatek, and ordered the Big Kahuna as a reflector with it through htg. I noticed instantly that the light wasnt as bright in this reflector, but i figured it was cause the light was more spread out. After reading this thread specifically about the magnum xxxl, i realized that my suspicions were true. In a week under my big kahuna, i have 9 clones, and they dont seem all that impressed with the light. Usually when I have clones that were under flouros for 2-3 weeks, they explode when under the 1000w.
Problem is my other reflector called the Euro, is piss poor when it comes to both air cooling & coverage. So i've bounced from one extreme to the other.
The hood is a hell of a lot cooler tho, i must admit. Atm, i've got the lights hanging 18" above my ladies, but im gonna drop it a lil lower.
great thread, i wish i woulda found it sooner..

I sold my Cool Tube and bought an SS2 based on the results in this topic. I did some tests with a light meter in my tent (40" x 40", 400 watt) and am getting much better edge to edge coverage with the SS2. Thanks!

can somebody point me a canadian dealer who got the ss2 .

the best i can find is the silverstar 6 at 150 $ . im about to score it but would like to try the ss2

im just fed with the cool tube, i get less frost than with a 400 w ...

last time i switched from the 1000 w to the 400 for the last 7 days and my resin level restated to pack like crazy . ill dare to say that 400 watt are the best finishing tool for a frosty crop, less heat and less stress like a true autumn , the 1000 w act like july in the Ecuador

This goes out to both PICO and darthvapor!

First of all GREAT WORK!

Now, I'm not gonna do like everyone else and ask you to test this or that reflector!

HOWEVER, I would love if you could give me some insightful comments on a reflector I'm thinking of buying.

The reflector is the Ecotechnics Ultra-Cool:

What I really like about is that it seems well thought out, this is from their website:

"Lamp position is adjustable to allow for some fine tuning of the light spread."

:D

Ecotechnics are the creators of the Diamond reflector, which I think is the best non-cooled reflector and I use it in all my setups.

They also claim to be the creator of the original coolshade (cooltube?).

Site Products -> Ultra-Cool for some more info.

So what do you experts think? :)

hows the glass seal?

I don't know, I haven't had a chance to look at the hood IRL yet.

But after what I've read there's not one hood out there that you DON'T have to use silicon to seal up properly.

And I'm not sure yet if I'm going to pull or push air. If I decide to push, the seal won't be a problem.

where does one find the insulated ducting at? and do you have any condensation issues with the ducting,im pulling air from a cool spot and once it hits the warm air in the grow room the ducting is condensating for the first 5-6 feet in the room and its getting messy, any ideas, thanxs and great thread!!

I wish Pico had tested the hydrofarm reflectors in his initial tests. based on the tests by Darthvapor and Yamaha1fan, it seems to me that this thread is best summed up by saying

BEST REFLECTOR: HYDROFARM RADIANT (most reflected light)
RUNNER UP: SUN SYSTEMS SUPERSUN 2 (best spread)
question is, are the radiant reflectors worth the extra $ over the SS2's?

i own both types, and many others. i agree 100% with the results of this thread. some suggestions for anybody who is motivated:

-test a cool tube already!
-test the adjust-a-wing
-test a parabolic (vertical bulb)
-test a bare bulb, horizontal and vertical
-test light output, 600w digital ballast vs. 600w core and coil
-test light output, 600w digital vs. 1000w core and coil.

btw, thanks all you amateur scientists for helping us rank all these damn hoods

Im wondering is someone can give me there thoughts on a Magnum XXXl 8" hood? Pros and cons. It has to cover a 4x5 area..........
Is this a good hood? Is it worth the price?

Thanks....

Pico, it would be really great if you could put all your results (and DarthVador's and Yamaha1Fan's) in a spreadsheet listed in your first post. That way, people do not have to search through 45 pages of thread trying to find the data. It would be really helpful.

Great work.
