Being your first time you will probably see around 4 grams. Even if you touched 5, thats a 40+ Dollar gram of hash. I have been in your shoes, and i suggest just smoking the weed. Maybe find a more efficent method of smoking for now. Hotknives?

Jam jar is good as suggested. Steal some pantie hose from a lady or something. I like this method alot because you can leave the pot intact leaving the leftover pot still fairly potent.

Avoid water extraction until you pick up a grocery bag of trim.

just get a decent electric grinder, put all your herb through that and once the ounce is gone press that shit.
