How did you quit cigs...?

  • Thread starter heavy dank nugg
  • Start date
I reduced my cig count each day to a set amount.

After I got used to smoking a few a day, I set myself to only buy a pack every 3 days.

Then once a week.

Then only smoking on my way to and from work.

Then at one point I just quit. The important thing was that I never actually committed to quitting. I just told myself I would try to cut the use to X. Then reduce it again.

The night before I totally cut em out I did alot of coke, and smoked a ton cigarettes. That way I was sick of them a lil bit the next day. Never went back.

I've been quit now for about 12 years and have no intention of ever having a cigarette again. I could stop for a while and would end up sneaking and then would start up again. The patches worked to get me to stop smoking for two or three weeks but I would have a few beer or be with friends that smoked and I'd get a pack. Lot's of times I bought a pack and had one smoke then chucked them.

I think I hit a point where I didn't enjoy smoking and I was tired of trying to quit and just was fed up enough to stop completely.

My dad had smoked since he was 13 years old and after 20+ years just quit, he stopped buying them and quit. I couldn't tell you how many Marlboro duffel bags he's got.

His secret, use the money you were spending on tobacco and spend it on weed.

I want stories of people who have been successfull using the patches or gums or other methods. not just callous cold remarks about stop buying them and just forget about them.....

If that is all you want then do it, you have already made up your mind that these methods are the only ones that will work. So why wait on what we have to say, go out and buy a plethora of patches and gums.

BTW, you titled the thread "How did 'YOU' quit cigs" not "what can i buy to replace my addiction?"

i used the gum; was ok... sunflower seeds do help but what really worked for me was just smoking weed every time i wanted a cig; i'd just smoke a j or take a rip... obviously you need a lot of weed and a lifestyle that allows such an approach but if you're committed than you'll forget you wanted a cig in the first place after you're done toking up. short term memory for the win. sunflower seeds are good in the car though when you can't toke. i used to smoke cigs when i was stuck in traffic in la; bad habit. surface streets to avoid stopping helped as did just not giving a shit; crankin the sound system and blazin one in the middle of a packed freeway; good luck though.

what do you want people to tell you then?

very confusing, people offer thoughts and opinions and you get your panties in a twist.

do you want to quit?

search on google or something if you can't handle people offering up their advice simply because their "attitude" isn't how you want it.

switch brands

stop buying them

get gum

get the patches

e-cigs

go to lights or ultra lights

roll your own (pain in the ass to do and you end up smoking more UNLESS you are a skilled joint roller then scratch that)

go on a trip

stay away from smokers

fill your time with something else

pray

talk with ex smokers (do they have an AA style place for smokers?)

----

not sure what advice or suggestions you are looking for but if your response is simply based on how we present our suggestions then you have bigger issues to deal with personally than simply quitting smoking.

do none of the above suggestions help and if NOT, what do you personally feel MIGHT?

1. you did not post to be helpfull you posted cause you were trying to be a smartass. at least have the balls to admit it and i might be able to respect you.
2.now you are defending another similar intentioned member....from doing the same excat thing......because you feel like you have to save face.......because i called you out on being a smartass.it offended you and i neg repped you to boot so now you have it in for me......

it couldnt be any clearer..........

this has run its course for me for those who did intend on helping i + repped you......im done with this nonsense though.

I smoked at least a pack a day or more for 2-3years, one day I just realized why am I smoking something that is killing me and tastes horrible when I could just as easily smoke some dank seedless that gets me really high and taste absolutely wonderful and I quit that day. Its all mind power my friend.

I know I am a smart ass, neg rep me who cares.

once you pull your head out of your ass why not take a look through the suggestions and see what works.

I am not looking for your respect, wow are you up on a high horse lol.

fyi, I have people pos repping me and calling you a prick so maybe you are confused on who has this conversation wrong.

either way, good luck with the quitting and hope it pays off for you. Apparently you can't look passed your own pitiful anger and locate PLAUSIBLE suggestions that could help.

Would you not take a suggestion simply because you don't care for the persons attitude itself? thats just sad brother.

I don't have anything in for you, I have been where you are, its stressful but once you get passed the piss and moan shit maybe you will take some advice and see what works for you.

if not than that's on you.

I am by no means angry, I mean no disrespect and I had only posted my witness testimonial of a reliable method.

You had asked our opinions on the subject, we delivered, and you instantly disregard our advice; I find that disrespectful.

I have seen many people that have tried methods such as patches, gum, chewing tobacco, etc. and from what I see it is just trading one addiction for another, and often times they don't stick and they go back to the cig's.

I'm not saying that they don't work for some people, I am saying that I 'personally think' that it is a less effective method in the long-term. That is my personal opinion/advice. Which is what you had asked for, personal advice. So please don't be angry that we are trying to help you.
