thanks for the recipe!!! mine is cooling in the fridge.

just curious. if THC is destroyed at 375 degrees Fahrenheit, then why doesn't it get destroyed while baking the cookies? most cookies call for 400 degree oven temps.

400 degrees will vaporize the THC. All my cookie recipies call to bake at 350.

I believe decarboxylation is the name of the chemical reaction taking place here and is why simmering it for longer increases potency. The carboxyl group breaking free is a natural process that just takes heat and time if I'm remembering my high school chemistry correctly.

So it really does make a difference how long you cook it. ;)

My process is like the OP. Take your water, butter and ground up, dry THC bearing material and toss it all in a saucepan together over low heat (my dial goes 1 -> 10 and I put it on 2). Simmer for 4-6 hours, stirring occasionally. Strain into a container, squeezing and perhaps washing all of the budder out of the vegetable matter and cool til solidified. Then I put this budder back into the pot with some more water and remelt it (I don't think it needs the long simmer here, this is just to "clean" the budder). Pour (strain if you feel it's needed) back into your container and cool again.

Use it in any recipie that calls for butter.

Supreme Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
-------------------------------

1/2 lb (2 sticks) budder, softened
1 Cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 Cup granulated sugar
2 Eggs
1 Tsp Vanilla
1 & 1/2 Cup all-purpose flour
1 Tsp Baking soda
1/2 Tsp Cinnamon
1/2 Tsp Ground Cloves
1/2 Tsp Ground Nutmeg
1 Tsp minced Orange zest (this is also available in dehydrated form, look among the other spices at the store)
1/2 Tsp Salt
3 Cups uncooked oats
1 Cup Raisins (soak in Rum overnight for extra oomph, but drain well if you do)

Heat oven to 350 F. Cream together budder and sugars til smooth. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and dry spices in separate bowl. Add into wet mixture in thirds and blend well after each addition. Stir in orange zest, oats and raisins; mix well. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to a wire rack to cool.

For bar cookies, spread dough evenly into a 13x9 inch baking pan and bake for 30-35 mins, then cut to desired size.

keep in mind the temperature inside the food is different than the oven temperature. temperatures will only approach 212F until all the h20 is cooked out. Think of turkeys - you bake em at 325 but they're done when the inside reaches 165F.

Also, optimum thc levels follow a curve - cook too short, not enough decarboxylation. cook to long, thc starts to be destroyed. so there's an optimum length of time for each temperature.

see the thread called "safe cooking temperatures", we got into it in depth.

My recipe is similar, but I absolutely feel it necessary to soak the cannabis in an ice bath to remove the chlorophyll BEFORE cooking it in the butter.
I fill a large bowl with water and ice cubes and soak the cannabis material in that - quite often I use trim. I soak it several hours, or until the water has turned a green/brown color. I usually change the water every few hours until the water stays clear.

If you use cold or iced water, does that not chill/freeze tricomes so that they fall to the bottom?...perhaps try inserting a bubblebag setup into your prep work, it might yield you something....

Just tried this a bit ago, my cannabutter smells, well, buddy, it has a def green tint to it, but after eating 4 cookies i'm barely even body high. Maybe i'll leave the cooking to the woman?

Every time I have ingested canna products the high has always been more heady than body, even if you made the canna goodies out of Indica buds/trim.
Not sure why, but I have never gotten the same high from ingesting it, as I do from smoking it.

I've finally followed the guide and now I got some cannabutter (not very green though) in the freezer while I'm looking for the perfect recipe. Should I only get recipe that uses alot of butter?

Whipped up another batch of budder.

This time I put 6 sticks of budder, 32 oz of water and about 6 oz of trim.

Put this all in a crock pot on low heat, not even bubbling overnight.

Got a very yellow budder! What is it with me and my budder? Everybody else's looks dark green, but mine is lighter than my first batch!

No green at all. Is it from frozen trim?

So I put 3 tablespoons into some honey, whipped it and ate it all.

Wonder what will happen.... :witch2:

hey lola what method was used to grow the product the trim came from. I have noticed a difference in color and overall consistency between hydro and soil trim. The soil trim always creates a greener butter where as my hydro trim creates perfectly yellow butter

Fresh vs Dry has a lot to do with the color too.

Lola -- You absolutely must do something more creative with your butter. I know the honey is a spin but seriously... fire up that oven. :D

There's a mouse in the oven! I ain't turned it on in 5 years. I am afraid to!

This ole mouse got in a glue trap (never again) and then he worked loose and ran up inside the oven.

I am afraid to turn it on now, afraid burning acrid mouse fumes will kill me.

help.... lol.

Yup, sad ain't I? 5 years... no oven... haha. I am single, so not too bad. Now ya'll know why I hate mice, ruined my oven. Got sticky and climbed in the insulation of oven and got stuck. I heard it in there squeaking. Glue traps are cruel, and hard on ovens. :)

I guess I should buy another oven just to be safe?

The budder turned out pretty good. I got a speedy thought kinda buzz? hard to describe.

Then I turned on a movie and crashed like a log.

I do like budder for sleeping. I want to make some really super strong sometime.

Maybe I will make some of those oatmeal cookies. There is a good breeze today, maybe the oven won't reek of burnt mouse if it does, there is a good wind to blow the smell away.

Hm so you're basically saying if im cooking with cannibis that I'm buying it could become very very expensive?

If you bought a vaporizer and built a PC grow case or a stealth cab you and your friends might never have to spend your $$z again. Grow it, vap it, cook it, eat it. It'd be like a Daft Punk song.

wow, what a long thread!
so many methods i have never used and i thought i have experimented quite a bit
a few tips i have, that have been mentioned, but spread out thru this thing

-wash trim with warm water(cold works like bubble hash removing trics & sinking them)several times until water is somewhat clear
-double boiler is a must(you cant over cook it)make your own out of 2 stew pots, one short and wide, the other tall and thinner, with thick rope seperating the two, cook the butter in a third vessel inside there
-use a T-shirt instead of cheesecloth to strain, its reuseable and dont let as much trim thru

i think no matter how your going about it, these tips are universally usefull
and effective:2cents:
i always use trim only, and its potent enough
i love it when people who wont listen, insist on 2 cookies:noway:

I have a question... And, it might sound a bit stupid to you guys. But, I'm brand new to using weed... althought I'm 49 years old! And, I just don't know! So, I have to ask!!

Before using the trims and discards from the plant to make butter, do I need to dry them or cure them?? Or, do I just use them fresh and green... right after they are trimmed? I know that there would be a definite and sizeable difference in volume used between say, an ounce of dried and an ounce of green.

Thanks in advance for any info!

hey all, how much bubble do you think should be used per stick of butter?

have 35 grams of great bubble hash, and would like to make a bunch of butter.

thanks
