Why is medical marijuana so expensive?

it doesn't cost $85 to make 30 prescription antibiotic or acid reflux capsules, yet the pharma industry charges that. they will charge what the market will bare and on top of that they will patent the genetics... so if its OG Kush you need for its unknown combination of cannabinoids and thc, you're going to be shit out of luck and locked into whatever phramco owns that patent. and you will pay the price that they deem fit.

and if lettuce had a psychoactive chemical in it, it would cost a lot more than it does now.

thinking that it will be in any way different is just naive.

...what happens when you eat too much of that brownie or had one too many "100% thc caps"?

Oh you fall into the deepest and most refreshing sleep possible, wake up thinking the world is rainbows and puppies, and then take serious dump that just makes you feel even happier, I'm talking state record size sewer trout here.

LOL... I don't smoke to sleep though, oral ingestion always just puts me to sleep... never gets me high.

ALS, I sense your main objective is to have it covered by insurance, and I agree it should be, but we shouldn't have to have caps or hash for that to happen (I don't like hash that much either... sleepy again). I really don't see the average pharmacy being able to handle that type of business. (it's kind of specialized)

Actually, lettuce contains a chemical very similar to opium and is VERY easy to extract.

Wow, I had to research that. You've completely demolished my feeling of uniquity. I really thought I was the only one who thought of the possibility of an official record holder. Silly me. Anyway, it doesn't matter, I'm sure I'd be disqualified for using performance enhancing drugs. For now I'll have to settle for that warm fuzzy feeling as I engage the flush and wistfully wish them on their way. "Swim free little sewer trout, swim free".

ALS... it's not that we think making "100% thc caps" is a bad idea; Hopefully with legalization that will be possible.
[/quotes]

it doesn't have to wait for "legalization" for thc caps/hash to be sold
in pharmacies..... this can happen now as a safe, affordable, guaranteed purity, and very accessible as opposed to clubs...

1.) Titration; meaning the ability to control the effective dose.
Pharmaceutical companies would love to make only one dosage of a pill and have it work for everyone equally well. Unfortunately everyone is an individual; according to the FDA individual's metabolize medications with as much as a 4000% variance. That means that it's difficult if not impossible to get the right amount from one pill. Smoking allows patients to self-titrate unlike edibles... when you've had enough smoke you quit smoking... what happens when you eat too much of that brownie or had one too many "100% thc caps"?

Also, imagine getting the right dosage from your doctor... you would be going back all the time saying no that's not enough to get a bigger dose or conversely... it was too strong Doc can I get the smaller dose instead. All the while having to make more trips to the doctors office as well as the pharmacy.

i doubt it..... the thc caps could be distributed and sold as mine were
in small doses... i recall the caps were small... and i don't recall the
size ....it was 30 years ago... but lets say if they were 100 mg the patient
could just take more ...and self-medicate ...this is very common in alot of medicines ..with a limit on how many could be taken as a max....

the only danger i recalled from ODing on my thc caps was that i fell asleep which was my desired effect...(if i'm sleeping no pain, also i could sleep thru
my chemo and skipt the vomit movie)... i also noticed
the same "sleep" effect with baked brownies sometimes... too high of thc
content will put me to sleep fast...

however ...if your taking thc caps for diabetes...and take too much
thc caps... this could kill you if you as your blood sugar would drop
too low(hypo)... but it is something diabetics who take insulin learn
to live with and learn how to avoid these hypos.. smoking would
probably work better for diabetics...faster acting and more control

i'm guessing that my thc caps were probalby made by the nih back then....they may even kept records on it...fioa???

well i guess i depends on how much you eat and how hight the thc
was in it..it would just keep me up and moderately high

and why not????

its really simple here...

the caps would come in a little bottle in a box with insturcitons and labeling...as are all my other meds do...the hash
would come in some kind of container in a box too with instructions and labeling ...both would be kept in a frig till sold... not you can't smell it before youbuy it...no the pharmacist would not scoup the hash out of a
big jar...my pharmacist saidhe would haveno problems with selling it...
but doubted that big money in pot would allow it to hppen..
he told me his son grows medical pot in another town....

as i see it anyone could sell it to the pharmacy....not just the
big drug companies...as long as packing standards and purity
were maintained....

thc csps are also a convenience issue which the clubs here in ca do
not address.... you got to drive hundreds of miles if you
don't live in one of those large concrete jungles ..to buy...

also a security issue folks doing home invasions and killings
over medical pot...would mostly fade away with pharmacy sold
pot...

Those same issues would fade away in time given full legalization as well...

yah but how many folks have to die and suffer in pain waiting for
legalization to happen????

while the pot providers get richer
and the folks suffer needlessly... we have a pretty good system
for delivering any drug in this country...pharmacies.....

so far i've been waiting 40 years for m to be legal
and its still not legal anywhere in the usa...
its not even off the schedule 1 drug list...

Yeah I must admit I feel pretty bad for you guys being pulled in both directions with crazy harsh laws. Were a bit better but not much if they pass this bill C15. It's easier for your guys to get a Dr.'s note it's not as easy for us here to get that. I would like to know who is still running this show that is this far behind and we as adults are still running around like we can't make up our own mind about what we put in our bodies? What gives the Gov. the right to tell me what I can and can't do in this manner? Especailly when it comes to my pain.. peace out Headband707

Lol. How many people would you put in jail als? Since you advocate making smoking herb illegal, why don't you tell us about it. If a marijuana grower wants to make a product to sell in pharmacies so be it but it is the operation of the free market that should bring that about not your laws. Pot providers are just that, providers and if they are good at their job they should have the opportunity to get rich just like everyone else. You make it sound like if it were sold in pharmacies it would be cheap. I know that every time I have gone to a pharmacy it hurt my wallet. And you want your insurance to cover it? That is the decision of the insurance company. I don't know if you know this but the insurance companies aren't the nicest bunch by a long shot. And no doubt mj isn't legal, thats one of the reasons it costs so much my friend. So why advocate more draconian laws to limit our freedoms? Why think that you have a right to the produce that those evil pot producers work so hard to bring to market? If you want pot buy it, if it is too expensive, find it for cheaper, if you can't find it for cheap enough then apply for one of the compassion programs.

Ok this thread has only gone in one direction and that is fighting about who is more entitled to what they want. Here is an idea; call or write your senator and petition for marijuana to become a schedule II drug so it can be studied and approved by the FDA and then insurance will cover it. Then growers can make their fortune and sick people can afford medicine. I don't mean to be rough on anyone here but can't we find a solution that benefits everyone? There are people in 37 states that don't even have the benefit of medical marijuana. Moving to schedule II could be all the difference in the world to them. Just my :2cents:
