duct tape,cardboard and cfl's

i plan on constructin a grow box with the tape and cardboard. will the cfl's be too hot and cause the tape to come off?..will be low wattage lights.also, what kind of tape would be best to hold cardboard together?

You're going to get a lot of (valid) replies about the fire risks of mixing cardboard and electricity. Plus the humidity from the plants will eventually destroy the cardboard... you're better off just getting some plywood cut at home dePot. :2cents:

Lowes didnt charge me any extra to make the cuts, but it is like 25 cents per cut or something like that.. Make sure you have it laid out really well with the least amount of cuts needed. This will make it easier for them. Make up some excuse before you get there for what you are building and have questions or comments to support your story if needed.

HD used to charge $1 for every cut after the first two but the last time I was there they didn't charge anything for the cuts. I said I was building a cabinet ;)

Make sure it's plywood though - steer clear of friggin MDF (particle board), that stuff is a nightmare.

I tried to design the largest cabinet I could get from a single 4' x 8' sheet of 3/8" ply, but it'll all depend on how big you want your cab to be, and if you want an all-in-one cab (clone, veg and flower in different compartments of same box). My cab is a one compartment box, I just change the bulbs and light/dark ratio as they plants progress. (I use CFLs too, btw - 42W 6500K for veg, 42W 2700K for flower.)

There are a TON of great designs on this site, some even have a bill of materials you could use for an HD shopping trip.

Hey Cowboy,
Go on craigslist, look in the free section in your area...almost always something you could make into a grow cab...not cardboard! Sometimes the free stuff is nicer than the stuff listed to buy. You can buy cabinets on craigslist cheap too, just type in your spending limt. Or go to HD, and buy one sheet of 3/4 melamine...shit is heavy, but is white so you dont have to paint it, and it is strong when put together. 30 bucks a sheet, make whatever you want. Good luck
