Panasonic Whisper Fan Carbon Scrubber Tutorial: Quietest most efficient fan ever!

Thanks for having my back. With all the various threads, it gets confusing as to exactly what's being discussed. I see "inline" and I think centrifugal. Technically, my S&P is an inline but, I try to be careful and always refer to it as mixed-vent.

No problem Freezer-boy,
When I read your initial post about being able to hear the fan half-way down the block...I knew you must be referring to Vortex fans.
I have one sitting around in a cardboard box because it's just too damn loud to use. Too big for a paperweight and not heavy enough for an anchor...

Anyonehave anymore feedback about the 240cfm or higher fans? I have a 172 vortex and ya its kinda loud, would like something a bit quieter.

Hi Ace,
I use the Panasonic whisper 240 cfm both as an intake and an exhaust fan in my bedroom grow. I also have a 450cfm Vortex fan which is sitting in a cardboard box unused because it's too loud.
You can hear the fans but mostly it's the whooshing of the air that you hear. It's not intrusive but it's not totally silent.
Both are attached to carbon scrubbers and move the air nicely. These fans would quiet down your operation over the vortex for sure...

thanks for the info guys, I havea vortex 172 and its deffinetely an air whoooshing sound...my roomie thinks he knows how to grow, and he has no idea I grow ahahah. Anyway I figureded I would use another product and find out the difference..
Any suggestions on how long these fans last? I say if it is quiet and lasts 2 years its worth it. I know the vortex has a 10 year warranty but, stealth over most everything in my opinion.

ok heres what iv got: im building a mini fridge and the dimensions of the cab are 17.5"x17"x30". light comes way of 150w HPS. my question is what would be the best choice for keeping the temps down and still retaining stealth? i was looking at this one. from what i see this thing seems pretty quiet at 0.6 sones. would that be too much for my mini fridge? what are the opinions on the whisper green fans?

I've got the 80 cfm model, FV08VQ3, using bulenath's carbon filter tray. It's working great in my 3' wide x 2' deep x 5' tall box. But I've only got two lowryders and I'm using CFLs so there's no heat issue to speak of.
Stealth-wise, it's great- very quiet (0.3 sones) and I don't have insulating ducting or anything, just the exhaust port sticking out the back of the box. The 150 cfm/.6 sones model you're looking at should be quiet, but I'll tell you that I tried a Panasonic inline fan, 120 cfm at 1.0 sones, and it was fairly loud (no way to pass it off as regular household noise imo).
I'm trying to adapt one for use on top of a grow tent. Instead of the carbon tray on top of the fan, I was thinking about flipping it over, boxing up the intake and attaching a DIY can filter to it. That probably doesn't make any sense, I'll attach a drawing.
I read your mini-fridge thread tonight (awesome project, by the way) and you mentioned the space issue with the fan/carbon tray. Maybe there's a way to stick the fan outside the fridge with the filter dropping down into the fridge and still remain stealth?
Anyway, good luck on the fridge, I'll be following along.

overtheedge: thanx bro!! iv been pretty indecisive about the fan. im a newb and this will be my first organized attempt at growing. unfortunately im going to have to keep everything inside the fridge. its looking like il have to remove the fan from the factory enclosure and mount it to the ceiling. the scrubber will be similar to Bulenaths except it will be detacthed from the fan and in the ceiling of the flower cab/ floor of the utility room. with the type of intake that il be useing i think that il be needing the extra cfm,im pretty sure that there will be a considerate cfm drop. again thanx for the compliment on my build and the feedback. peace

anyone out there know? that would make the 150 cfm a sure thing for my build.if u read the original post i believe these whisper fans are made to run at 150cfm regardless. I do not know personally but from what i've read people say these fans actually work harder when there is resistance on either the push or pull end of the system. assuming they have some sort of sensor that actually does this, these fans are bad ass!
i was just wondering if anybody has used the inlines and experienced a similar phenomena? i need my setup to be odorless and as quiet as possible. I did some math and it looks like im going to need 180cfm Before losses, which leaves me with the option of 190 or 290 cfm. Clearly over shooting is the answer, but by 100cfm? noise is going to be my limiting factor, but for a 3.2x3.5x5.6 box what would you guys do?
going to be a 400w CMH inside of a super sun 2.
i will be sucking through a filter -> fan -> 2 feet of duct -> super sun -> 3feet of duct -> exhaust out the back.
