Gr8shoe, probably better that you didnt end up going. Was surprised that the Niners got routed like that. But it happens to everyone. Even the Pats in one of their Superbowl seasons got routed early on.
Cocktail, now now no need to be trash-talking, although ball-busting is a time honored tradition in sports. But we don't want to incite any lasting hard feelings...
Barney, Giants vs Saints should have been the Sunday or Monday night football game next week. I know most of the country would prefer to watch that game over CHI v ATL or DEN v. SAN.
Bud, if you love your team you should express it. The Bronco's have a D that's playing lights out. If they keep it up, they could win a Superbowl with that D.
I was able to watch the last few minutes of the Bronco - Pats game and man oh man Orton makes just enough plays to help you win but every so often he'll throw one that is lucky wasnt intercepted. I know he's keeping the TO's low for now but some of his throws make you cringe...

Yessir, I have to agree. Firing Shanahan was the best things they've done in a while. And you're totally correct about Orton. On more than one toss I was thinking "Heeeeere comes the pickoff!" :yoinks:

Bud: now that I think about it, maybe we're being too hard on Orton. Sure he makes a throw every now and again that makes your heart stop, but hell every QB makes a bad throw once in a while.
Maybe I'm biased against him because I endured him on the Bears for several years. It's a stretch for me to think he could win a Superbowl, but then again, the Buccaneers, in their run to the Superbowl, had the league's top D and a game manager at QB in Brad Johnson. Same thing with the Ravens in their Superbowl year with Trent Dilfer at QB. So no, you don't need an elite QB to win a championship, just someone who makes enough throws to keep the defense honest.

Gr8shoe: haha yeah popping off a few caps playing video games is a great stress reliever.
Looks like the NFC West is shaping up. Zona and Seattle seem to be playing better. Except for the Rams, who look like they could be the second team to go 0-16. The Niners are going to have to fight to win their division, but with a 3-0 division record they're in the driver's seat...

I'm in Chicago, so of course I'm a Bears fan (still remember the Superbowl Shuffle :rasta:). We've been through our ups and downs since Iron Mike left. We had to endure the Dick Jauron and Dave Wannstedt years. Lovie Smith and Urlacher have brought us back to respectability.
I'm just a fan of football in general, the traditions and the players.
Everything goes in cycles; the success of a team ebbs and flows as coaches and players come and go...
I think there's more parity in the league now than 20 or even 10 years ago. Like baseball, it's more of a question of whoever gets hot down the stretch can make a run in the playoffs. Like the Colts in 2007; they actually had the league's worst run D that year, but Bob Sanders came back from injury when the playoffs started and suddenly their D was lightening quick and stuffing run plays. They beat my beloved Bears in the SuperBowl, ack....
Same thing with Zona last year, their D was outstanding in the playoffs and they should have won the Superbowl if not for some tremendous plays by the Steeler's O.
I do remember the Niner's glory years, and their annual battles with Dallas for NFC supremacy.
I remember the Broncos and their stretch-run play that won them a couple championships (I respect the great John Elway, but Terrell Davis was my favorite player on that team, and I was saddened when his career was cut short by injury).
I think it's good for football in general when you have so many good teams in the league.

:yeahthats Terrell Davis was awesome. During those championship years we had a great team in general. And you're right, having so many good teams is definitely a good thing, makes for much more interesting games! :D

I think that last game jarred them out of the funk....I think they are starting to gel i little bit more as a team now. Got a bye this week which lets em heal a little and get ready for seattle. Dont get me wrong i'll criticize them with the quickness, but im not that worried. the only 2 teams we have lost to are both undefeated at 5-0.

Nice cake. Even looks tasty. Go Bears!

Dallas is an interesting team. I like Romo and when he's on there's no one more dangerous at QB. His ability to hit the long pass is right there with the best in the game. However, he seems to struggle with the short and intermediate routes sometimes. It would help if they would stick with the run game; at times they seem able to run right over opponents. They should be at a 40-60 pass-run ratio.
Miles Austin proves that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys should seek to develop their own talented players instead of always trying to hit home runs in free agency. Miles was undrafted, for chrissakes, and he had more yards in his first start than any Cowboy ever had in any of their games. Maybe it was just an anomaly but they should continue to give him more opportunities.

The Saints have a chance to beat their second straight undefeated opponent. Their defense absolutely dismantled the Jets last game; Manning however is not Mark Sanchez. Still, the Saints are hitting on all cylinders and are playing like a Superbowl contender. This game could be a preview of the NFC championship game...

So true!!

I've been saying all week that the game against the giants will be the toughest game that the SAINTS have to play this year.....other than the Superbowl!!! Heh Heh.
