your ppm of 400 in your water is not good, Can you cut that number in half by adding RO water? that WAS your water ppm and not runoff, correct? They look better already. NO salt!!
too high? Should I use less nutes, or what does that 400 ppm really mean? Minerals?
I think the girls will make it after this incident don't you? Little damage but you saved them. Good thing you said something about carrying in salt. :joint: ps- your adding pH down not up right.
They will definitely pull through!!! Thanks for all the help guys!
FF nutes drop ph, so I was using up to get it back right under 7....no good Hank?

last time I saw a water ppm that high out of the tap with a ppm of 400 was someone who's well water was yellow....FULL of sulpher. You may want to reconsider RO or find out EXACTLY what that 400 is in your water. That's some mean water.

I think that may be the thing. 1I said it does smell kinda sulfury, I just asked him. Damn I missed ya sis;) . So here is my next noob question. HOW do I figure out what 400ppm is?

You'd have to have it tested in a a lab, Appaarently when you use city water these kinds of info are much easier to aquire but with a well you'd have to pay someone to test it imo. Any suggestions from anyone else?

If it stinks like Sulfer,
&
has that high of a ppm,
save the lab fee & put the $ toward a RO filter.

(@ 400 ppm, that water doesn't leave much room for ferts.)
(The pH +/- will add to the total ppm, too)

:yeahthatsYer only right, mate!
If it don't smell like sulfur, though, It's most likely calcium.

(Where WT lives, sulfur would be very rare.)

His well water's most common excesses will be NaCl MgCl and Calcium salts.
It's all sand and limestone at the water table.
Too close to the sea and brine infiltrates.

It often pays to listen to Weedy n Peat, yah?

I'd mix in R/O to about 250 ppm and mendicate from there.

:2cents: :2cents:
(That's around 3 and a half cents, so I'll be wanting change for da tip jar.:joint:)

You can try mixing RO water with your tap water. A lot of people like a 50/50 mix. I have an RO setup but it's not in use due to needing to do some plumbing work around the house. So in the mean time I use a Mr. Clean car wash thing. It filters my 260-300ppm water down to 10-20ppm. The replacement filters are about $5 and I can get 10-12 5 gallon pails (might be more but I know I can get at least this much) out of 1 filter.

Sup WT; long time. :)

WT; what substrate are you using? From some of the pics I've seen it looks like coco with chunky perlite. PH of 6.8 seems a bit on the high end. Even a bit on the high end if this is soil. I've always been the type that likes to stay right in the middle for the type of medium used, ie: Soil - 6.5, Coco - 6.0 - 5.8, Hydro - 5.5.

Any particular reason for doing 6.8?

Think an RO system is the best idea...then just add everything, have the ec to 0. go from there with cal mag and bennies?

6.5-7 Dai....so I pick 6.8 for shits n giggles...may need to drop it a lil. NOW....just not sure which size of an RO system I need...what is Gpd?

dai I've gone to ph 6.7-6.8 in ph for my soil stuff and so far like the results all in all better than 6.5....my two cents only.

WT,
Check this chart out, gives you an idea where your ph falls...6.8 is higher in the spectrum for soil...I'd drop down to 6.5 or lower..but not much..
