Kenai?

I remember the many times that I've been salmon fishing on the Kenai River. Watching a mated pair of bald eagles devouring a salmon carcass within 10 feet of your drift boat is something that you'll NEVER forget.

Great place indeed to figure out life.

Yep - I usually get up to Alaska every 2 years or so. I fish both the Kenai River as well as deep ocean fishing out of Homer.

It fills the freezer with lots and lots of halibut, salmon, etc. plus it gets me out of my wife's life which is a good thing according to her.

After 30 years of wedded bliss she probably deserves it, eh?

LOL

My 'personal best' on the Kenai River was a 62 lb. chinook which took about 30 minutes to bring it onboard the drift boat. Quite a day!

Coot...that's something...i've never caught anything that big....but i definitely caught enough to where i had to give plenty away. We took the boat out and went deep sea fishing which was a "whole 'nother experience" within itself...

i remember when i was a kid, my sis and i going there, camping, and snagging fish that got away, removing the lures, and reselling them(along w a few other things) to all the tourists. i also remember the looks on the faces of first time tourists when they would hit a fish and the fish would make it to the rapids and every inch of line would disappear outta the reel in about .5 seconds!!!!:joint:

The local fish markets around Portland are featuring Copper River Salmon for $7.99 per lb (filets) - a good value, IMHO

Salmon is the best fish to buy and eat in the Pacific Northwest. That and Dungeness crab off the shores of Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon & California though it's pretty damn expensive.

I started 'crabbing' a couple of years ago over in Newport, Oregon. Lots of fun setting out the crab pots and hitting it the next morning to see what happened the night before.

well iff u get copper river reds at anything under about 20 bucks a pound its worth it.

Halibut is one of the best white-fleshed fish you can ever eat. I marinate it in an olive oil, rice wine vinegar with herbs and chiles and then grill it on my Big Green Egg smoker/bbq which can hit temps of 900F+ - instant grill. About 10 seconds on both sides.

Life is good in the Pacific Northwest.

I say freaking amazing. Went to alaska this summer and it was sweet. A big thank you to you NOKUY for telling me about the Kenai, Homer and Seward. We drove just over 3000 miles while there. Took about 1500 pics and sucked it all in. Picked up a killer piece before we left. I wish we could have had more time to really explore. Thank you again.

Next time you're in Alaska you might want to check out hunting for Dall Sheep (aka Big Horn Sheep) - quite an adventure if you have the right hunting guide.
