H3ad goes Coco

yeah, my res is a five gallon bucket (i handwater) and after my 6/9 mix in ro i usually need to put in about 5ml of ph down. if youre only doing a gallon at a time, something i liked to do instead of using the ph up or down, was to use superthrive to lower ph and rhizotonic to raise it a bit. i would do this to young plants and seedlings mostly since i was planning on giving them a little does of each anyway. hth

i need to add ph up, and you need to add ph down. is there something wrong im doing with my nutrients? becuase everytime i mix the nutes 6/9 in a gallon of r/o water i need to add ph up (because the ph without beign altered is like 4.5)

i couldnt agree more about this strain, man. of all the cuttings i have ever had, this one has been far and away the most vigorous, healthy and hassle free. its outgrowing everything i have out, with the exception of this romulan freak of nature. gotta love those h3ad genetics.

if im hydrating coco and im useing distelled water do i have to lower the ph of the distilled water and do u think one drop is enough to put it around 5.9 before and after i start using 6/9ml nutrients

great, really informative thread!!

was wondering if anyone could eyeball my feeding plan and see if everything looks ok?

I'm using rez's 'recipe' with R/O

Recipe as follows:

Based on 63 day 12/12 Flower Cycle:

Day 1-14
6ml micro
9ml bloom

Day 15-21
6ml micro
9ml bloom
7ml Kool-Bloom Liquid (0-10-10)

Day 22-28
9ml Bloom

Day 29-35
9ml Bloom
7ml Kool-Bloom Liquid (0-10-10)

Day 36-52
9 ml Bloom

Day 50-63 (Flush)
6.0 pH h20 at <100 ppm

The days that i'm doing 6ml micro / 9ml bloom + 7ml huvega magnesium

N 91
K 107
Ca 97
Fe 1.94
Mn .97
P 60
Mg 60
S 27

The days that I'm doing 6ml micro / 9ml bloom / 7ml koolbloom / 7ml huvega magnesium

N 91
K 283
Ca 97
Fe 1.94
Mn .97
P 152
Mg 60
S 27

Any help/feedback much appreciated!

Rez based the 6 and 9 ratio he uses on my advice when he switched to coco... He additionally added the KoolBloom which he had been used to using in pro-mix... Through some trial and error he has modified his formula again... The new formula is here: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=81674

The only real difference in his recipe and the formula i came up with when adapting GH lucas formula to be more ideal in coco, is that on days 15, 29 and 36 of flowering he gives one shot doses of nutrient solution which include 5ml/gallon of KoolBloom powder.

This adds to the Nutrient profile as follows:
N +26ppm
P +259 ppm
K +307 ppm
Mg +13ppm
S +20 ppm
Rez claims a 15% gain from adding KoolBloom for a single feeding on each of those three days.

IMHO if one wanted to test this out without purchasing an additional product, then by simply adding 32ml/gallon GH flora bloom (which you have on hand if using my 6/9 formula). This would add to the nutrient profile as follows:
N +0
P + 212ppm
K + 323ppm
Mg +146ppm
S +97ppm

This method keeps the K/(Ca+Mg) ratio more within the parameters generally accepted as the optimum range, and provides a tad more S which is often incorporated into flower/bloom boosting products.

Remember that the additional 32ml/gal of GH flora bloom would be added to the nutrient solution and fed to the garden only on the three specific days mentioned.

If you try our rez's recipe or my semi-equivilent I'd love to see your results and guestimation of the increase in production if there is any.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Grat3fulh3ad again.

Welcome back H3ad.

Obviously you are not a fan of additives but I am wondering have you ever experimented with fulvic acid, L-amino acids or silica and if so what were your thoughts on them?

Thank you for this most informative thread.

h3ad. thanks for getting back to me on the koolbloom. I have since modified the formula a bit. I now use 6 / 9 + 5ml sweet. and on the 3 weeks I use koolboom I only use 2ml / gallon. the 7ml just seemed overkill to me. I have the powder on hand so maybe i'll give it a whirl next run. I also ease off the micro instead of dropping it suddenly. seems to help my yield and keep the stems stronger during bud-weight production. especially for plants like trainwreck/casey jones. the casey turned out spectacular btw. going to be in my room for a while now :)

yeah, I noticed when Rez re-modified his formula again he got back alot closer to the original 6/9 ratio I came up with for coco... The only thing he is doing different from me now is the tad of Kool Bloom he adds... CC and Rez did confer with me when I came up with it though... I think their main advice was to drop the epsom salts at first, then Rez integrated the additives he had always used in pro-mix... I haven't changed mine at all except to slightly manipulate the ratios. Noone is gonna do things exactly the same, and there are hundreds of different ways to get the exact same nutrients to your plant... I don't claim my methods to be better than anyone elses, but as far as simple and effective... If it ain't broke don't fix it :D

Rez was the one who originally got me interested in Gen Hydro nutrients, and when I was growing in pro-mix I started with the basic ratios he was using at the time... Of course it didn't take long after I began doing the GH beside my organic grows to figure out all of the whats and whys and wherefores of inorganic salt based nutrients, and armed with the knowledge of precisely how and why they work so well, Adapting my recipe to work in coco was fairly simple... Plant nutrition is about 90% calculation and 10% intuition/experience... Provide what is needed at the right time in the right concentrations and you can't help but grow good buds...

Good to see ya, H3ad!
I'll be joining y'all in here very soon!

I've been through the thread a couple of times.
But, I'm sure I'll have some rePeat questions for ya real soon!

I've got a 5 kg block of cocogro, Flora Hardwater Micro & Bloom
I've been doing pretty good in LC Mix #1 w/ PBP & LK
But, want to clean things up a bit. So, I'm planning a couple of side-by-side grows. At least, until I can get dialed enough to take the training wheels off!

For years, my trusty pH litmus papers have been telling me all is well.
But, now the GH drops tell me my tap water is pH 8.5 (or more...off the scale?)
And, my new EC meter says tap water = .77 EC

Should I just get a RO Filter (& regular Micro) now?

Or, can I work with what I have?
And by "work with", I mean easily & successfully! ;)

Thanks for all your work!

BTW, I'm really looking forward to Spring 2010! :headbange
:listen2: FWIW, I'd be honored to run a test, or 2, for ya! ;)

:respect:

yeah r/o would be the best choice.. although I have found the necessity to not forget the mag supplement when using r/o (epsom/sweet/etc)

P

Peat

yeah, i'd think the r/o option and regular micro would be the safest bet...

:joint: Done.
Thanks for the tips, H3ad!

(Upgraded from drops, to a pH meter, as well.)
Turns out, my tap is 9.1 pH. (Too high for the drops to read.)

My RO water = 0.00 EC & 8.65 pH
(pH still too high for the drops to read.)
I thought RO pH would be closer to 7.00 ?

... I have found the necessity to not forget the mag supplement when using r/o (epsom/sweet/etc)

Thanks greenatik! Good to know.

How much Sweet would you suggest when using RO water. I am worried i will throw the cal and mag ratio out of wack if i add sweet with no cal. Should i be?

greenatik

you shouldn't be worried.. what nutes are you using? h3ad uses epsom because their shouldn't be a need for any extra cal (if using formula)

I use 5 ml sweet / gallon every watering
