Hey Stitch I am glad you are back! I am afraid i am about to be in trouble. thanks for looking!

can someone tell me what causes just the very tip of my plant leaves to turn brown? Im thinking a deficiency of some kind its all the way top to bottom of the plant. Im 5weeks into flowering under 400watts hydro continuous drip. I also recently added a UVB 10.0 light for increased trichromes. im using bcgrow products with a cal mag supplement. thanks.

Sorry for the crappy picture quality. its unfortunately the best i've got.

I could still use some help it think... I flushed soil a couple time since the pH of the runoff water was so low. It seems to have helped some but just recently some of the fan leaves on the badly affected gk rapidly yellowed and curled and look dead for the most part. the new growth seems healthy and the flowers (although a little on the small side) seem to be progressing nicely. Is this normal since the plant went through so much? Why did two plants get really bad when i did the same thing for all the plants? forgot to say I added some prilled dolomite lime to the soil about a tablespoon, and watered once with a dolomite "tea" after flushing. could the pH have been related to build up of nutes in the soil over time? This has been my first indoor grow in pots and frustratingly fun to say the least.

Bass, the pictures are hard to tell, but it looks like you got some light stress, the leaves looked bleached, not unless that is the flash; the pictures are so dull in color it's hard to tell,

THat is common tip burn; no worries about that As long as it's not spreading your fine, but if your leaves look the way they do like I posted, then move your light up a bit, damaged leaves won't recover either.

Hey there burnt, great to see ya!!!

I got your msg, I resent you a message did you get it ?

Gergles: You do have some heat stress, the pictures where it shows the whole plant and the top parts are curling.

Also, it's fine to feed every 7 days, but this is a problem when you feed every time and there is no plain water inbetween feedings..... I see some buildup, stuff affecting the leaves veins so it's something it's taking in and not getting rid of..

Next time you water, do not feed, just give them a nice drink and let you have some nice run off at the bottom rather than just drips.

Soil gets build up of excess stuff plants don't use and it can cause problems for them.
So make sure you have one watering in between feedings at least 1 every 1 1/2 weeks it's mandatory to do so to keep levels there at bay.

It's like for us going to the bathroom and never flushing the toilet :p
get pretty nasty ya know :)

Have your plants gotten worse or better since you posted those pictures?

One is still pretty bad most of the fan leaves turned brown and curled. Some of the new growth looks ok although pretty light green. Some of the new growth has some brown spots. Would flushing alone help or would I benefit from using flora Kleen to get the buildup out? Please let me know I'm trying to save her. She's flowering okish but of course smaller than others. Thanks I can try to post some new pics later tomorrow

Well I will be here when you get a chance to post the pics :)

How light green? Most of the time that is normal, up to a point, cause when they start to pop out 25% of there normal size they will show light green and darken up as they grow outwards...... if they stay light green and get bigger, but do not darken, then there is a problem.

No, do not use a flushing product to flush it out, you don't have a severe issue, it's easy to flush out the buildup that you have right now, it's not severe; so a normal one good watering will flush her out.

Now if you are near the end of flowering, then yes flush the hell outta the gal! lol

Once she gets back in order and she is in the proper pot size, she will take off quickly!

Stitch,

thanks. the leaves look funny cause of the flash. it was the tips i was worried about. I didn't know if that was normal or not. I backed off my nutes a smidge and and its not getting any worse. I think it will be a green September!! Thanks for the help!

my sick euforia

my sick euforia

Hey Stitch,

So here are the pics of my sick plant. It has light-green doscoloration and the tips are going brown it seems dying off. The growth is retarded and it only goes up without leaves increasing in size. So far my assumption is either magnesium, iron or sulfur and maybe nutrient burn. Right now I hold it on 1/3 Hesi growth and about 1/3 teaspoon of Epsom salts on 7 litres (2 gallons). I also have an iron chelate but haven't used it so far. There is also algae present in medium.

What STRAIN are you growing? Euforia
What was the establishing technique? (Were the seed or clone?) Seed
What is the age of your plants? about 2-3 weeks
What PHASE are the plants in? (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in? Vegetative
What Technique are you using? DWC/Bubbler/Growbox
What substrate/medium are you using?(Hydroton, RockWool etc.) Perlite/Vermiculite
What is the Nutrient temperature? 74 F
What Nutrient's are you using? Hesi's Hydro Growth, PowerZyme (currently at half dosage)
What is the TDS/EC/PPM you are using? abot 380 ppm (factory calibrated tds meter)
What is the pH of the "Tank"? 5.9
Are you sure your calibration is correct on your equiptment? yes on ph, no on tds
When was your last watering? 3 days ago solution change
When was your last feeding change? (ie. grow-bloom-micro-additional)
What size bulb are you using? HPS 400W
What is the distance to the canopy? about 6 inches
What is your RH Factor? no clue
What is the canopy temperature? Don't know
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include flucutaion range) About 82-88 day/ don't know night
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.) Fans pump air in and out of cabinet
Is the fan blowing directly at plants? Yes
Is your water HARD or SOFT? hard, 200 ppm
Has plant been recently pruned, cloned off of or pinched No
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so, What and When? No
Are plant's infected with pest's No obvious infestation, killed a couple of flying thingies (fungus gnat maybe)

(Sorry about pic quality, I'll upload better ones on weekend)

Bassplayinfool: Good to hear, if ya need some assistance you are more then welcome to ask me or make a thread in the infirmary!

Runner:

You are supposed to calbrate it yourself if you have a non self calbrating one.

Did you calbrate it yourself when you received it?

Plant looks like a magneisum deficiency....... if not sulpur..... , your ppms are tooo low as well your ppms is that just the nutrient ratio or is it with the ppm of your water?

Your also using a plant metaboliser booster which they need more food than normal when you use them even if at half strength.

Even though the product you are using is an all in one.... the trace elements may not be enough..... because one of the factors is due to the metabolizer your using.

Your plants are hungry from not enough food,

Stitch please Help!! im freaking out now. I had to chop one of my gk's because all the leaves started wilting and browning in a 2 day period. this was the "bad" one of the bunch. Now one of the healthy ones is doing similar with the fan leaves. It started in the fan leaves with the other one and then began to spread to the new growth. Im at a loss as to what is going on. I posted pics in my album under 8/29. please please look and let me know what you think. Im going crazy over here now.

Gergles, it's hard to tell with the hps light on, but it does look like light stress...... post some other pics without the light on.....

Can't guarantee what it is at this point without better pictures, but it does look like heat stress from the light......

Hi stitch, I posted new pics outside of the tent so the hps wouldn't affect the picture. I'm not sure if its heat stress just because the plants are a good 16 inches from the bulb and the top of the canopy is not getting over 75 degrees at most on a hot day. this wilting and browning happened pretty much over night and the similar thing happened to one of the my smaller gk's a week ago. It's weird too because its only the gk that it is affecting this way and the sour d is not doing this at all. The pics are in my album labeled 9/2. let me know what you think. thanks in advance

Stich im hoping you could help me. Im pretty new to this but ive helped with a few grows previously, just never DWC. But i have read what fells like every thread in the past few months on this and other websites in an effort to learn.
I built a 24 bucket rec. DWC system almost identical to Blazes tutorial. I got my Blueberry clones in 1 inch RW cubes and put them in 6" baskets about 1 inch form the bottom of the net pot and my water level is about 1 inch under the bottom of the net pot. the first couple of days were tricky for me becuase i didnt want to overwater the cubes so i ended up underwatering them as the cubes were two high(originally 2 inches from bottom of net pot)
I lowered the cubes and the roots started to come out the pots like crazy a couple of days ago. What i notcied is that the plants with the roots that first started to reach the water/nutes started to show yellowing on the new growth. The yellowing starts at the bottom of the leaf and progresses towards the tip. When they hit the water/nutes i was feeding 480ppm at about 5.3-5.5ph. Yesterday I added nutes and raised the ppm to 650, but today the yellowing is spreading. Today almost all the plants have reached the water/nutes and they are all pretty much showing the same problem. After reading your original post, sulfer is the only thing that occured to me but i wanted to get your opnion before starting to add epsom salt to my feeding tank. i will upload pics shortly.

Hi Stitch,

Sorry for the delayed reply. 200 is the ppm of my tap water. Solution's ppm is right now about 450-500 after I switched to a full dosage and was about 380 at the moment of first post. However like I said I haven't calibrated it since I have troubles finding a calibrating liquid.

I also suspect a root rot may be an issue since my solution temps right now are high (78-80) (they go up and down with overall weather temps and were 72-74 a week ago) and roots do have some brownish stain. Will it be a good idea to use a peroxide? So far I plan to clean the reservoir with 3% peroxide, gently rinse the roots with a shower hose to remove the stain, dip them into 15-20ml/gallon peroxide solution a couple of times and get it back to a clean res. Sounds ok?

One more question: like I said the tap is 200 on my TDS and addition of full recomended dosage of Hesi Hydro Growth (50ml/2,5 gallons) makes it 450ppm. Your guide says large plants should be 900-1800ppm. I have another full size mature plant (month on vega). Should I increase the nutrient concentration to approach these numbers?

I attached some pics of leaves and roots. Overall it doesn't look good. Newer growth seem to have much more normal green colour but the necrtotic brown areas are increasing and damage all the leaves including new growth.

Gerggles, it's not the temps that can cause it, it's a contributor, but not single handily doing it.

The problem is the amount of lumens being so close to the plant, , some plants don't have as much of a tolerance to light intensity....... raise the light up, the damage won't recover though.

Notice how the tops and under it are affected...... that looks a lot like heat stress to me.

But, have you been giving them a good watering inbetween feedings?

If you had fert burn it would not start at the top, notice how the leaves twisting upwards. this means the leaves are getting too much heat/ lumens trying to preserve moisture.

You feed them plants the same as your other veg plants? feed every 6 days? any watering in between?

In your gallery 9/2 The top first 4 pictures are the light intensity, the rest of them are nitrogen deficiency... how long are your plants into 12/12?

When did you switch to bloom ferts right after switching to 12/12 or a bit later?

gergles

New member
I started the bloom nutes as soon as I switched over to 12/12 I'm about 50 or so days into flowering ( I know this is a total stoner thing to do but I forgot to write down what day I started haha). So would the light burn happen overnight like that? the light is raised up as high as it will go. Any suggestions? Should I maybe top and let the rest grow? The nitrogen def, is this normal at this stage? Thanks again
