Never tried the line, but the price is insane....I really think that they are hoping to market it to people who are new to growing. I laughed when my hydro shop got Humboldt in....they thought they would do well with it and almost every bottle is still on the shelf. Hydro guys said "f*ck that, we aren't stocking it anyomore." I think it lasted the summer here....

I ran into the VermiT guys down in Vegas and they were dropping 10K a night easy on drinks at the clubs (they're all late 20s/early 30s). They're making huge profits on a water pump hidden inside of a black 4 gal. container and charging $450 for it and $75/brew.

I think people believe that if it costs a lot then it has value. If it's cheap then it must not work as well or be as good. I've found that to be the case on products if I've given away samples or discounts. Unfortunate really, but true....

Have you seen a New England-based potting soil called 'Coast of Maine' by any chance? That's a very nice product line if you're interested.

Next look for the line of products from "Neptune's Harvest" which is based in Gloucester, Massachusetts

Specifically look for their liquid fish, liquid kelp and dry kelp meal.

You're almost home to the easiest growing environment around. Seriously.

Earlier this year the distributor for Humboldt Nutrients got busted watering down the nutes. They were draining the bottles almost empty and refilling them with water and selling the drained nutes to friends and growers in their inner circle. Humboldt Nutrients had to recall hundreds of thousands of dollars of product. The Nute game is full of cheats and thieves. I don't know of anyone here in Humboldt that actually uses these nutes. I have friends that own hydro stores so I sometimes hear some insider info. Like others have said, you can make almost all of these samme products with similar results. And at least you know what has actually gone into them, or in this case what hasn't got into them.

Well after a bit a bitchin at the grow store, i came away with some free stuff...

I started to talk about the KIS compost tea kit, and she said "Sorry about everything and take this for your trouble. Its very nice stuff, if your intereested in compost tea,"

and she gave me a 4L Advanced Nutrients, Mother earth, blended natural super tea. Grow 4.8-1.8-4.3

and said this is very good for roots...

Advanced Nutrients "TARANTULA" 4.5OZ /130Grams powder.

Are these any good? Hopefully so as i had them for free...

jesus, what a whore^^

trying to get you hooked on advanced nutrients line, the most expensive line of nutrients probably at your hydro store...

edit:use them, then find a cheaper as effective alternative.. because you were talking about the compost tea kit she gave you mother earth tea from AN, so is she hoping you'll like the results so much you'll forget about KIS and just continue buying mother earth..? correct me if im wrong.

edit2:good job on gettin the free hookup though!

You should tell them they need to stock our products!

I think tarantula is a good product, but overpriced. If you got it for free, by all means use it, it's just a myco product, rebranded from Mycorrhizal Applications.

Their tea is completely different. It's a nutrient tea vs a biological tea, which is what you get when you make compost tea.

At Advanced Nutrients' web site, 500 grams of Advanced Nutrients Tarantula is $159.00 and they recommend that you apply it as a foliar spray as well as to the soil/roots. LOL

Local price is $14.50 for 1 lb. of Mycorrhizal Applications' endo micronized (20 lbs. is $230.00). Granulated is $9.80 per lb. (20 lbs. is $154.00)

Their endo/ecto product have similar pricing.

I just don't see NGW or Nickel City Wholesale doing that.
Yes, the products are way over priced, but please be careful about spreading rumors.
I'm going to talk to Roy (owner of Humboldt Nutrients) in about an hour and I'll ask him about it.

RE: AN Tarantula

Apply only to the soil. Their advice at the web site indicates that using it as a foliar application will have benefits.

That's patently wrong. Period.

As CT Guy pointed out, the AN Tarantula is a rebrand of the product from Mycorrhizal Applications out of Grants Pass, Oregon. Head over to that web site to see how this product should be used and disregard the information at Advanced Nutrients.

I talked with Roy, the owner of Humboldt Nutrients this afternoon, and he confirmed my belief that the rumors are bullshit.
The problems they have had were related to the supplier of the vented caps for their organic products.
Many of the caps were not venting properly, causing the bottles to bloat.
A far cry for the above story.
He was certainly glad he didn't have to replace hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of nutrients, as he probably wouldn't be in business after something like that.

CC is right. If it's a mycorrhizal product it will do absolutely no good as a foliar application. In fact, multiple applications are a waste of time as well, as once the myco has formed a symbiotic relationship then you're done in regards to myco applications for the extent of your plant's life, barring abnormal circumstances.

I have question about applying products like 'Tarantula' (only because I'm too lazy to look up the correct spelling of 'mycorrhazel' so here it goes.

Let's say that I take a rooted cutting and apply this product to the roots as limited as they may be. So I take a rooted cutting that is treated and grow it out for a few inches and then I transplant that rooted cutting (treated) and place it into a larger pot.

Does the original treatment extend to the next transplant or is it necessary to re-apply this product to the roots for the next generation of growing or is the original inoculation enough?

Thanks!

I heard the name GottaGrow connected with that rumor. No I have no proof. I probably should not have even gone there. There is no denying that it is a crooked business and like I said I don't know anyone around here that uses them.

The '2' stores in Portland (out of 20 grow stores) that carry this product are 'marginal' at best. That's only because they've pissed off the grow-store distributor NGW who if you cross them will cut you off at the knees if you do not promote their primary products, i.e. Fox Farms Fertilizers, Advanced Nutrients, Dutch Master, et al.

Eh!
