Carpatian, Thaifun Horizon, Lowrider#2

A new season, a new thread, with some of my plants and experiences! I'm at 52 degrees north. Grow medium is a mix of potting soil, sand, coco fiber and compost. Organic teas are added once in a while whenever I feel like it.

(last year's thread: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=97355)

April was warm and sunny and may wasn't too bad either and I had some Lowrider #2's growing for an early crop. This was my first time with lowriders, I didn't expect much of them and they yield very poorly, but it's still fun to grow them. They will be harvested soon.

Next two pictures is the most resinous one, but leafy.

Last year I purchased Carpatian from Darwin seeds. It's said that Carpatian is a "sativa selected pheno of Royal Dane".
I crossed a male and female last year and the following are the resulting plants. Three of them (including some of the nicest) have already showed their masculinity.

The fastest growing one, male.

Sex unknown. Hopefully female

A male. This one is very vulnerable to pests. There are always more critters on this one than the rest. I regularly check my plants and just rub them away by hand.

And last but not least my favorite. It grows very compact for the male that it is.

My plan is to later on plant some thaifun horizon seeds I made last year and cross some of the (early flowerer) carpatian males above to (later flowerer) Thaifun.

Peace out and let's overgrow the negative forces in this world!

The solstice has passed and it's updating time..

At the moment I have only carpatians growing. The fastest growing one that has male preflowers suddenly has begun making female flowers and seems to have started normal flowering. I will monitor the flowers and remove any male ones if I see them, but it's a little problem, because I don't want any other plants pollinized with this hermaphrodite-pollen. Still I will let it flower because it's the only "female" so far.

This is the only other one that could be female, I don't know what it is yet. It grows very thin and skimpy, like I am :bis:.

This one I had put in the garden, but it turns out male. Thus far of the carpatians 4 are males, one unknown and a hermaphrodite.

And this is one of the two males I'm collecting pollen from to pollinate thaifun-horizon later in the season.

I haven't even germinated the thaifun's yet, but there's still plenty of time, I don't want huge plants and they will flower so much later in the season..

It's funny. On a dutch forum I read today about a guy growing a royal dane (carpatians anscestors) that turned out hermaphrodite as well. But I love carpatian's weed, It's also a beautifull looking strain I think.

See ya

Hi guys

I germed the thaifuns and have 3 seedlings. I also have a purple (unknown genetics) seedling, two durban (sensi) seedlings and am trying to germ 3 bushmix seeds.

The two Carpatians I was left with were going too yellow in their pots so I tranplanted them to full soil. A downside is that in this spot they get less sun and more slugs. They are not recuperating as good as I had hoped for. Once they are flowering, the repotting doesn't do them as good as it would with other plants.

They both have showed some male flowers (they showed them before any stress) and the following plant is developing some (hermie) seeds here and there.

The following plant's flowers are alomost all leaf and few calyxes. I'll just have to see how they develop.

For me not the greatest update, but let's see what will become of the two carpatians and the new seedlings.

The smaller carpatian hasn't changed much in looks, it just looks a bit worse.

The bigger carpatian has started to take off a bit. Delicate buds are growing with some small trichomes on them.

These are young thaifun horizon plants. A female (if there is a good one) will be pollinated by carpatian.

Thanks guys!

The carpatian (inbred, 2nd generation) has gone nice and green again! The buds are very spindly, this is partly because of the 4,5 hours of sunlight it gets, which isn't that much. I find the smell of carpatian undiscribable but nice. This is a smell you won't find quickly at all in other strains, except for there can be a citrus component which is common in other strains.

Here are the thaifun's (inbred, 2nd generation). They are doing well and are extremely similar in looks, all look like their mama. The leaves look kinda crazy and the middle leaflet grows under or above the rest as if there's not enough room for them. The fingers look extremely broad for a ??thai??.

Next are two durban's (sensi, inbred 2nd generation). Started too late as they would be probably starting to flower if they were more mature.

Three bushmix's (zenseeds). Would be flowering if more mature.

Own cross (Unknown genetics, but mother a green plant and father dutch purple). It will be a purple, but I'm guessing it will be male.

Mine Carpatians-buds are spindly too, and they gets full sun - almost. It's in the genes.
Well, they look lovely bro :)

P :smoke:

The spindly Carpatian is going pretty strong. Most pistils are still white. I'd like to let it go for another month or more, if the weather lets me.

And a pic of a Thaifun horizon

Thanks for the replies and grown on:hotbounce

Hey Stone Locust

Does it flower in time the Sensi Durban since i have at this moment the Jamaican Pearl from them and still no sign of flowers at the moment.

Do you know anything about the strenght in high of the Thaifun???

Namaste :smoweed: :canabis:

I started the durban bit late, late july, so it's only just being able to flower about now. But it hasn't shown preflowers yet while others started at the same time have. I had one durban female last year as well and it started flowering end of august. imo it's safe to say none of the sensi outdoor strains are suitable for our climate if you want it finished by the end of september first week october. I think sensi doesn't even breed the outdoor strains outdoors anyway, so go figure.
The durban is a nice plant and pretty fast flowerer so I just hope on some luck to harvest it like we have to every year with non-early plants.

The thaifun has different pheno's, I had four plants last year, you can read some discussion about it in my 2008 thread. The mother of my three plants I have this year was a killer pheno with a lot (and i mean a lot) of resin. It was a super fruity pheno, smelled like super sweet tropical fruit juice.
Last year my biggest female was not that potent and had an earthy smell.

Have found a tiny bit of mould on the carpatian. The bud structure makes that the rain can easily penetrate the buds and stay there. But it has been dry enough lately for no more mould. It's pretty finished now but Im letting it go as long as the weather lets me. These will probably be the last pictures of it alive.

These plants don't receive that much sun so are stretching. The thaifun's are taking a long time to begin flowering properly, the bushmixes have begun flowering. It's funny, the carpatian is finished while the others are just starting to flower :biglaugh:. From left to right: bushmix, thaifun, bushmix, thaifun.

I cut down the carpatian today (picures in post above). It has flowered for 12 weeks! It's all foxtails!

I cut down the second, smaller carpatian (you can see it in post #3) as well, and it's buds are quite a bit denser than the bigger plant:

Too bad this one wasn't grown to it's full potential, but as long as I'm having fun it's still fine..

These are the durbans. One on the left is stretching more and more sidegrowth. One on the right stays columnar and compact.

Bushmix (probably purple power (female seeds) x Bushman's)

Bushmix (probably lebanese x bushman's)

Thaifun horizon, still only just starting to flower. I had to cut down another thaifun in a pot because it had gone hermie. I loved that plant so it was hard on me. They have a yellowish look that I think is in the genes of this phenotype.

Aaah it's almost too cold to be growing, but as long as the plant keep on, I will certainly keep on.

i also test grew Auto Lhotsa from Darwin seeds
they where very impressive and i hope they release them for next year ( ill post pictures of them later, i just need some issues concerning security to clear first
