I had a 70 gallon reservoir.....and an old house years ago.....replete with cracks in the ceiling.....
Anyhow: we had company over....a few friends that didn't know we grew...but did smoke. We're burning a bunch o' j's......chillaxin....playin playstation.....
Out of nowhere, a stream of water comes right through the ceiling.....right onto this guys dome!!!
I run upstairs......open the room as discreetly as possible......only to find that the return hose on the bottom of my ebb and flow table has come loose....apparently the adhesive used to bond it to the coupler weakened....and next thing ya' know.......kablamo!
The 70 gallon reservoir had filled up to the brim...was continuing to flow and circulate...but essentially the middle of the table had a giant hole with water draining out....LMAO!!!!
I came downstairs and said that there was a leak in the bathroom.......someone left the sink on....
Didn't want the guy to think the toilet was overflowing or whatever...LOL.

Anyhow....that kinda shit happened on occasion....best to have a wet/dry vacuum.....and definitely floors that can sustain alot of water dropped on them.

I decided then that if I ever did a large scale grow.....I'd have a room setup like the bottom of a shower....with a drain...the whole shabang....a whole wet-room.

Anyway: sorry to hear about your incident bro. It comes with the territory. Good luck.

Ricky's List:
1) Tell Cory & Trevor to clean up hydro mess.
2) Go go LC and get pepperoni and booze.
3) Get two smokes from Cory & Trevor.
4) Tell Cory & Trevor to fuck off.
5) Get drunk and stoned and post on ICMAG.

Dont feel bad thats nothing. One time I was baked and tending my house.. upon leaving I thought I turned the hose and RO water to the off position.. I was away for twelve hours while the RO overflowed and the hose ran water over the floor. The very day before I moved all ballasts and electronics onto the walls. Coulda have been way worse. i had to drill holes in the floor to drain it. The vents were filled with water destroying the ducting by the weight of the water. Mold explosion shortly after. Best of luck with the cleanup. Lots of fans and a shop vac...

Been there, done that. Unfortunatly it was a couple times. I can really feel your pain. But it is just mostly water and can be cleaned up and dried out.

I was filling controller buckets from the main resovior one day and my son came in screaming that he had cut himself and I went running down stair to help him and after all his drama I sat down and turned on the tv and chilled out. It was about an hour later when I went into my master bathroom downstairs and the carpet splashed when I walked in and then I remembered that I had left the fill hose in the controller bucket.
So there were 30 gallons of water that had soaked through the floor and ran downstairs. THe wife was pissed for several days and I got it all dried out and then 3 months later a hose came loose from a DWC unit from me stepping on it and it all happend again. That time the wife and I just lauched as I soaked it up out of the carpet.
This shit happens and if you haven't had it happen yet, you will have it happen some time in your future. Just part of the hydro gig.

I've left the RO on before too, came back and everything was flooded to hell. Good thing it was in my kitchen...

But yeah dude, that's pretty insane. Did the timer fail or did you mess up the cycle time or something?

Totally not trying to be a dick.. but after reading this, I clicked on your sweet tooth grow link and saw this pic. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING (saying in a half laughing, not asshole way, I promise)! Please tell me you were still setting up in that pic and don't leave the outlet on the floor all the time. :yoinks:

My buddy bought a rubbermaid trash can for a resevoir. Lasted awhile ... till it split right down the side and all 50 gallons went on the floor. Becareful what you choose to use as a resevoir.

One of my friends was setting up some dwc tubs and cheaped out and bought the cheapest ones that he could find. Needless to say he had filled up three of them(roughly 15 to 20 gallons each) and the first one he filled started to crack. When he jumped up to start taking care of it, and bumped into one of the others and of course, it broke and took out the third and final one. This all took place in a third story attic, and ended up flowing threw the floors, walls, and heat duct all the way to his basement. He called me to help him clean up and it took us most of a day to clean it all up(what we could get to anyway), and weeks for everything to dry out.

LOL!~ Yea I had just set everything up and just got finished putting the plants into the buckets like 20 minutes before this pic was taken. The power strip is outside the liner now and I will not be stepping into a wet floor and being electicuted. Even the ballast is outside the tent now.

Haha okay that's good..LOL. Your grow is looking good, BTW!

All this talk makes me worried about going hydro (was gonna try ebb/flow once temps cool down.. don't want to spring $300 for a chiller until i find out if I like hydro vs soil). Guess like everything you just have to make contingency plans and 'build for disaster'.
